As you walk into this spacious unit, the ocean is an immediate presence. You can dine on the lanai and many times watch dolphins and whales. Designed with a zen simplicity, we think this is a perfect way to enjoy the Big Island.
Many extras are available for use, like beach equipment, beach towels, games and binoculars. The full kitchen includes many extra appliances, along with a well-stocked spice cabinet

We had a great time exploring the island from our temporary home. The condo was spacious and clean with nice Zen touches. We loved siting on the lanai and hearing the ocean throughout the day. We used the binoculars to check for dolphins which we saw one afternooon. The condo had boogie boards, towels, and a cooler we used for the beach (also some pails, etc. for younger kids). The second bedroom had 2 beds so our kids (boy and girl) each had their own bed. There were ceiling fans in all the rooms so we could cool the condo off when it was warm. We paid for the air conditioning and we did use it about half the nights b/c of humidity, but tried to limit it, partly because we liked to hear the ocean and feel the breeze when there was one. There was some equipment in the closet of the 2nd bedroom for smaller children (a high chair I think, and some toys, possibly a playpen). I like having a washer and dryer (detergent provided) so we didn't have to bring as many clothes with us. There were also some games and Dvd's available which was great. There were several books available for reading and with info. on the Big Island for helping plan what you wanted to do. My husband loved playing the ukelele! He plays the violin at home so it was great for him to have an instrument available to play. We really like this condo and felt very relaxed there.
We have stayed in at least 6 different units at Kanaloa over the last 13 years or so. This unit, 2002,which we just occupied recently, was the second unit we stayed in with friends in about 2004. It has been upgraded recently and is well appointed. It's approach is shady and private and is about 60 ft from the surf. The lanai has close to a 180 degree view of the ocean and is in the shade until mid afternoon. We had an issue with the housekeeping agreement related to supplies and being precharged for interim cleaning, which is fairly routine, which didn't happen. Both Aloha Condos and the owner apologized for the miscommunication and we were credited for that charge. The only items needing attention was a loose fitting kitchen faucet which had no affect on function and 2 binoculars available that need replacing, probably victims of the salty, humid air
Great condo- View fantastic, quiet, well furnished and equipped. Unfortunately, freezer was not working for the entire 10 day stay. Also, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker all are on same 15 amp circuit- blew breaker, but could not find it behind painting. Note would help! Finally got help from Condo manager. Moved toaster to counter by sink to prevent re-occurance. Over-all very nice Condo.
Our second stay in #2002, and we'll likely be back. Perfect location, well equipped and nicely updated. This is the way to go, vs booking through Outrigger or Castle, since you know exactly which unit you're getting, and can see it ahead of time. Kanaloa is a perfect spot, and have been going now for 33 years, starting with our honeymoon in 1983!
This is a wonderfully large condo, with a location right on the ocean front. My husband is handicapped, which is why we booked this condo: it has a roll-in shower and an accessible bathroom with grab bars and raised toilets--not always easy to find in condo rentals. Weather was really hot this time of year (late September), with virtually no wind, so we appreciated the A/C during our week long stay. There were some problems with the television reception. Directions listed in the "help" book don't work at all, but I was able to get the set working. And the cable company was working on the property, resulting in loss of reception for a time. Also, there are no working telephones in the condo. Apparently, they are not even hooked up. If you need to call re an emergency, keep your cell charged at all times--it will be your only phone. The condo is very well stocked with anything you might need for simple living, including lots of seasonings. We had some insect problems in the kitchen (small ants), but I was able to eliminate them with Simple Green found under the kitchen sink. Also had a huge cockroach, but finally got rid of him, too. There is a small refrigerator outside, but it is in dire need of defrosting. We didn't need to use it at all.
The ocean views and privacy of the condo are exceptional. We both enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the morning, having breakfast and watching the outriggers go by. Didn't see any dolphins, but certainly loved watching the surf hit the lava rocks. There's a shopping area just up the hill, perfect for picking up groceries at the KTA or getting a quick meal at L & L or Subway. Covered parking is close by, but be sure to drop off any handicapped person near the condo before using the very small space. Exiting the car is not always easy, if the other space is occupied. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again in the future, health willing. The condo is very well furnished, large, and in a great location. Go for it!
Aloha, We loved our 9 day stay in condo 2002. The condo decor is beautiful with relaxing feng shui throughout. The sunsets from the lanai were amazing! We chose this condo because our daughter has allergies and the condo has wood floors throughout and Lew's communication was great when I had a few questions. The condo was extremely clean upon arrival and stocked with everything we needed. Mahalo!
What a great stay in a well appointed condo. So many little touches to make it more enjoyable, from the beach gear and ice chest right down to the well stocked spice cabinet for cooking. And the view on the lanai, living in paradise. When we return to the Big Island, I will be looking at this place as my first choice.
