Apartment 2 is on the main ground floor entrance and 10 feet above street level. It is actually the grand Parlor of the house and is truly a step back in time with the two original ornate fireplaces, original wood carvings and paneling, decorative ceilings and original converted gas light fixtures. This apartment features two super large rooms containing a Day Bed with an additional trundle bed (two singles when separate or one king when closed) and a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the other room. There is television with DVD and VCR plus full cable access with HBO and Cinemax. There is also complete wireless access in this apartment. In addition, a lovely baby grand piano is available for serious and amateur musicians. The apartment is air conditioned and has steam heat provided in the winter.
A small but fully functioning kitchen, with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, ice maker, dish washer, coffee pot, toaster oven, toaster, and mixer, blender, and food processor is a cook's dream, as everything is within arm's reach. There is also a separate standard sized stand up shower and toilet room within the kitchen area.
My family really enjoyed their stay at the parlor. It is a beautiful apartment. I would not hesitate to stay again and I hope to come back. However, it has quirks that may or may not bother some. The trundle beds are quite comfortable and the queen sized fold out is bearable. We all slept fine. The shower in the kitchen is awkward for anyone requiring privacy during mealtimes, but we easily worked it out amongst ourselves. We loved the location. Quiet for our family with easy access to the subway and Centeal Park. Many great restaurants nearby
Our family stayed in this wonderful Brownstone over the extended Thanksgiving 2015 weekend. It was perfect! With 2 different metro stops within easy walking distance, we were easily able to get anywhere in Manhattan. Plus with some great restaurants and grocery stores nearby, we had plenty of choices for dining in the evenings after a long day out. So close to the Museum of Natural History and the Macy's parade route, we were able to walk over and see some of the parade and the giant balloons. The apartment itself was very comfortable: new memory foam mattresses on the pull-out beds gave us good nights' sleep, the dining area was big enough for a Thanksgiving dinner for 4, and the kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed. We plan to stay there again next time we visit Manhattan!
Two weeks in August:
Trying to keep it short, the other reviews pretty well tell you that this is a unique property. Two PLUS-points that I would add regard the spaciousness of the apartment. It is a floor-through with HIGH-high ceilings, windows on the street and, with the gigantic pocket-doors open . . . opens up all the way to windows above a beautiful back garden. So many of the airbnbz etc are tiny compartments rather than apartments. this place had ample space to relax -space which three of us enjoyed greatly!
The place is like a time warp to an age of elegance; thus the walls are old-time plaster and lathe construction which is not conducive to our plethora of modern devices for constant communication. The cell phones only worked consistently in the front room near the street window and our computer was not able to connect with the building's WIFI ...SO DONNA THE OWNER WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND, and lent us her laptop so we could stay connected.
The place is well equipped with cleaning supplies, a vacuum, etc. which enabled us to keep the place as we found it and Donna promptly refunded our deposit.
Down-sides lest you be caught by surprise: 1. the beds, though elegant and beautiful are poor-to-basic, comfort-wise and, 2. the set-up with the toilet and the shower in the kitchen is awkward and, the shower, which does have very nice fixtures, is about the size of a phonebooth. Otherwise the place is a gem and I would love to visit again!
We stayed here for 8 nights in Nov of 2014.We don't think that we could have found a more comfortable or more convenient location in Manhattan. The apartment is huge, at least by New York standards, beautifully furnished and extremely quiet even though it is on a major street. The 2 rooms are very large with a small kitchen and a small bathroom, and the price for 8 nights was very affordable. The owners--Donna and George, are friendly but non-intrusive. It is a easy walk to Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum, the Lincoln Center and the subway. Numerous restaurants and five fine grocery stores from Trader Joes to Zabar's are within a few minutes walk.. When we return to New York we will definitely stay here if it is available.

A gorgeous, spacious apartment in a historic brownstone located on a quiet residential street in a fantastic location with amazing owners - we could not have been more pleased with our experience! We visited the city for five days with our son to tour colleges and enjoy events in different areas of Manhattan. All were easily accessible by walking or subway. You may arrive as guests but the owners' hospitality will likely cause you to feel more like you're friends. Many thanks to them for their thoughtfulness and when we return to NYC this beautiful apartment will be at the top of our list!
I was in NYC to compete in the NYC Triathlon 8/3/14. Best location ever! One block away from Riverside Park, the event start. Conveniently located within close walking distance of Subway, Broadway, Amsterdam, and Central Park. Comfortable, convenient, quiet, functional, and spacious for two people. Shower/toilet area small, however functional and appropriate. Wi-fi, movie channels, private. Owners live in building and were friendly and easy to work with. I'd stay here again!
On West End Avenue between 76th and 77th street in the heart of the trendy Upper West Side, and only 9 short blocks from Lincoln Centre (music and theatre, Julliard for studies). An unconverted, historical brownstone with all of its original detail intact, quiet but only half a block from Broadway where everything awaits you at any hour of the day or night! Apartment is approximately 1360 sq. ft. with views on two sides, east to West End Avenue and west to Riverside Drive.
