Berkeley is home to one of the world's great universities -- about 1.5 miles away (65 bus stops a few yards away). Also by 65 bus: Math Institute, UC Botanical Garden, Lawrence Berkeley Lab, Lawrence Hall of Science. Great restaurants in the Gourmet Ghetto -- Chez Panisse, etc.. Two major theater companies. Philharmonia Baroque, Cal Performances, museums. 4th St. shopping and restaurants. The #65 bus connects to the Berkeley BART station for service to San Francisco, Oakland, Orinda, SFO, OAK, etc.
The studio has a completely separate and private entrance in an architect-designed home. The space is small so it best suits a single person or a very cozy duo. Ideal for visiting scholars, parents of UC students, visiting grandparents, etc.
Transportation is very easy by bus, car, and foot (some neighbors walk to UC).
Keywords: Studio (as in NYC or Paris hotel room -- not an art studio).
I fell in love with this property on first sight. There are gorgeous views of the SF Bay, gardens abound, deer and turkeys walk down Euclid Ave. It feels like a garden-setting in the middle of a vibrant city. I love to travel but also take in the many wonders of the Bay Area.
Susan Kinloch purchased this studio in 1994
The rental came with the property when I purchased it in 1994.
Garden views, birds, a very interesting residential neighborhood with special architecture all around. Views of both the Oakland-Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate -- gorgeous! Enjoy beautiful sunsets over San Francisco Bay. Quiet. A safe part of Berkeley. Great transportation -- far and near.
Thank you for being a great hostess for us. Thank you for the parking help. We enjoyed our time here.
Nice little place in a lovely Berkeley hills neighborhood. Designed well for the space. Bathroom is tiny but the shower is great. Enjoyed a glimpse of the view, though the summer fog hid it for most of our stay. Probably not the best place for elderly people due to the steep driveway and the couple of steps down at the entrance and the another level change after that.
I spent 4 nights in Susan's "Lovely Studio" and it was indeed lovely! I was in the SF Bay area to work on a project and it was wonderful to "come home" each night to this cosy studio which had every amenity needed. The desk area with a comfortable chair was a great place for me to review my notes after each day and morning tea was easy to prepare in the in-room "kitchenette". The Studio is located in Berkeley Hills and the neighbourhood is very pretty and totally safe. Outside the Studio, there is a patio area surrounded by beautiful plantings to enjoy the spectacular views of the Bay Bridge. As others have mentioned, there is a library wall filled with the most interesting books. Although I personally did not have the time to indulge it is truly a reader's dream. I look forward to returning to the Studio if I am in the area again. Thank you Susan!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this clean and comfortable property. We stayed there for a week when we attended our daughter's Ph.D graduation from UCSF and visited our son in UC Berkeley.
The property is well located in a good neighborhood and it is easy to find a parking spot on the street, even when returning late at night. Great restaurants, shops and UC Berkeley were all within a 5 minute drive.
There are a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and kettle that will accommodate simple cook needs. The bed was super comfortable. Wi-Fi functioned very well.
Susan is a wonderful hostess that makes you feel welcomed.
Thank you Susan and we are looking forward to come back in Aug.
The studio is well-cared for and furnished with beautiful things from lamps to bed linens. The location is private but convenient to downtown Berkeley by car. One wall of the studio contains shelves with terrific books! We had fun reading the titles. Great shower in the very compact bathroom. Susan met us when we arrived and answered all of our questions. After that meeting, we were left alone as we did not need any other information.
We found our accommodations very nice. The space was more than ample for 2 people and it was clean and well kept. . The small kitchen area was just enough to make coffee, or keep drinks cold. Really all we needed. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure. Two things that are important for a 12 day stay. Our host was friendly and responsive, but respected our privacy. For us, the one downside was the home was situated on a steep hill. Parking is on the street requiring walking up and down. Not a big deal for some folks but my husband was recuperating from surgery, and I had back issues. It became a challenge. Other than that we would highly recommend this spot to you.
Quiet, safe neighborhood but near all the cultural, educational, and recreation possibilities of Berkeley. Yards to a bus to downtown, BART,UC Berkeley, Lawrence Hall of Science and the Math Institute.
