Happy 2018!

With great joy and anticipation, we look forward to sharing another year of Chesapeake Bay slower lower eastern shore of Maryland tiny island living with our guests! Thank you for visiting our site. Come on by for a visit!

ABOUT Deal Island:

The geography:

one of the last Bay type water and land mosaics on the East Coast left unblemished and untouched by the sprawl of modernism. Deal Island, Maryland is a 6 mile long, 3 mile wide neck of small town living surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries in Somerset County of Maryland's eastern shore. Easy to get to. Connected to the mainland by a 1/4 mile bridge.

The people:

humble, hard working, friendly. When you visit here, you are welcome here. Come blend in!

Why visit:

Our guests describe us as a "bucket list" destination. The kind of place on this earth that you've heard about and have to experience at least once.

This is where you decompress, rejuvenate, getaway!

What to do?

Hmmm. Well that is up to you. Activity feedback from prior guests varies.

Some guests read, others walk, maybe birdwatch or bike. Of course fishing, motor boating, kayak paddling, canoe paddling, crabbing and waterfowl hunting are main staples of activity as well as enjoying some quality time sunbathing and sea shell collecting on Deal Island beach.

The owners top 3 activities.

1. Short 5 minute kayak paddle to the back side of Little Deal Island where I harvest a couple dozen muscles that 5 to 6 hrs later will be the main ingredient of my wife's linguine dish in a red sauce. Yummy!

2. Walking over to Arby's Bar-n-Grill on the harbor before sunrise. "Arb" always has coffee on and a rack full of pre cooked breakfast sandwiches ready for favorite is a slab of scrapple on white bread. The sunrise from Arby's picture window is killer, the locals chat me up and I get in a good 3 to 4 rounds of $1 Keno as well. Heaven!

3. I'm a birder. Osprey and Eagles are breathtaking. But nothing beats seeing a Belted Kingfisher go for a meal. They look so innocent almost Disney cartoonist like, when suddenly this vicious predator side appears as it savagely dives head first in to a "gut" to beak snag a fish. Geeez!

ABOUT Wenona Harbor:

Tiny old charm seafood industry town located on the southern tip of Deal Island. Home to 35 boat captains . Main catch are crab and oysters. Also, charter fishing trips. This is Tangier Sound country. Not a tourist destination. This is where you truly get away from it all.

Our cottage is here. We are in a scenic small private sub division that is a mere 200 yard walk to the harbor which is equipped with modern docks and double boat ramp maintained by Somerset County.

Also home to Arby's. A half general store and half bar-n-grill. A must visit.

ABOUT our cottage:

Since 2005, the Sunrise Sunset Cottage has been one of the top rated Chesapeake Bay Vacation Rental homes for a fantastic affordable vacation

Water view home featuring 3 Bedrooms + Queen Sleeper Sofa, 2 Full Baths (Sleeps 8), Central AC, Full Kitchen, Washer/Dryer, Grill

This is not only a summer vacation destination, guests rent from us year 'round. Since 2005, length of stay varies. Typically weekly, often partial week, sometimes a month or longer.

Enjoy spectacular Chesapeake Bay sunset and Wenona Harbor sunrise water views from our modern custom built water-man's style cottage. Watch ships and fishing/crabbing boats from the 2nd floor living room picture window and 2nd floor deck. Sip coffee as you take in a Wenona Harbor sunrise from the 2nd floor screened-in porch/deck area.

Free HIGH SPEED Wireless Internet and 2 Satellite TVs.

Our 1/2 acre lot features property fire pit. Gaze at the Milky Way while enjoying roasting a marshmallow or 2! Our power boat guests share that there is plenty room to park it.

Launch your boat or our kayaks/canoe from the Wenona Harbor public boat dock directly behind our property.

2 Kayaks, 2 cruiser bicycles and a canoe included. Boat slip rental based on availability.

Wonderful house ,beautiful views. We enjoyed walking the nature trails at the Deal Island wildlife management area, and got some great pictures of Bald Eagles!

The absolute best part of Deal Island are the people. Treated us like we were old friends. Had a wonderful Friday night hanging out at Arby"s listening to great live music and talking with the locals. If you get a chance check out Mike's dancing -he's a joy!

Unique stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a really quaint house and area. The home suited myself and two daughters for a birthday weekend get-away. We were grateful to be able to bring my daughter's two dogs. The house had everything we needed, we used the kayaks just two minutes away. The home was clean. The surrounding area is really laid back and quiet. We ate at Arby's which is a must! Can't say enough about the help we got from Wanda when we needed it. The owners were also quick to correspond with us. If you are looking to see a different part of Maryland, and if you are looking for a quiet get-away, this is the place.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Want it to be gone for a couple of days and this house gave me what I was looking for, the place is comfortable and well maintained, the kitchen has all the perks you need to cook your meals, even a BBQ located just right on the spot, the view is amazing. Thinking about my bed well don't the master bedroom is very cozy and a convenient bathroom just in front of the bedroom. The rest of the bedrooms are comfortable for those who has kids nicely decorated. I have to mention the neighbours are very good people and make you feel right at home, so don't be busy with what they think you are most than welcome in Deal Island from the guy at the market on the back of the house to the front neighbours they are all very kind and welcoming folks. There is a convenient church right closed by so you won't miss sunday service. And one more thing bring fresh water if you are not used to coastal water taste this can feel a bit salty for you, there is a market just right back of the house you can go and buy some.

Thank you Wanda and family for having us, very nice meeting you, hope to see you again on summer.

Peace and blessings be upon you.

Aisha Salem.

Nice place

  • 3 of 5

I must say the house was lovely, quaint and very well kept. Three adults and three little ones, quite enough room for all. Jody, the neighbor across the road, let us use her dock to fish and crab. Thank You, The kids loved it. Sunsets were awesome, water was warm and the fishing was so so. Kids caught fish so that was the intention. House was well stocked with most items you would ever need. Grounds well kept and easy access in and out in a quiet quaint little community. Now the downside. Unfortunately the house was not ready when we arrived and was a late checkin, which was ok, we were busy anyway site seeing the area and putting our boat in the water. There was an infestation of fruit flies that we lived with for 4 days, had to keep garbage on porch. The garbage disposal did not work and I think that is where the fruit flies came from. The mosquitoes and biting flies were just awful. Went through two spray bottles of bug spray in 4 days and still covered with bites. Overall, I know location is on an island and lots of swamping area around, so be sure to bring your bug spray. The house was accommodating and the area was beautiful.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your flexibility and understanding and for your positive comments and description. You had requested a early check in and we informed you we unfortunately could not accommodate that. Although you did arrive early. Our house keeper was dealing with a family emergency and had a short delay. You called with some questions the day after arrival and Wanda checked with you to be sure everything was OK. We were not notified of the fruit flies . I stayed at the house after you left and found a small number in the kitchen which have been resolved. The garbage disposal was fixed by pushing the reset button. The bugs outside on the property were few. Our property is regularly treated with a spray non toxic to wildlife and people. We are always available and to help' to be sure your stay is enjoyable.Your feedback will help us in making sure this issue is prevented going forward. It is regrettable that we did not have the opportunity to assist with the problem during your stay.

Great place for a family!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived the cottage was very clean, and my wife liked it right away. It is a great place for kids with plenty of space. The two floors provide some privacy. We met the locals at Arby's and everyone was very friendly. I highly recommend it.
