Our names are Nancy and Steve Dunlap and we currently live in TN, near Chattanooga. My husband and I built Villa la Vista in 1998 after falling in love with Costa Rica while vacationing there. We especially loved Manuel Antonio and knew that when we retired we would love to spend the Winter months looking out over the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. Our dream has finally come true (we retired in 2010) and we now spend as much time as possible enjoying our property. We hope that you will also enjoy this beautiful, friendly country and will want to return again and again. Pura Vida!
Nancy Dunlap purchased this villa in 1998
We chose Manuel Antonio due to its natural beauty. We also love wildlife and the exotic animals and birds that can be seen in this area are a wildlife lovers dream come true.
If you want an escape from the everyday, consider our Manuel Antonio vacation rental in Costa Rica and experience a little slice of paradise. Manuel Antonio offers visitors world-class beaches and magnificent views from La Vista of gorgeous sunsets with Cathedral Point as a backdrop. From this Manuel Antonio vacation rental, you can explore all the charm of Costa Rica with rafting down the wilds of the Naranjo River, or hiking in the Manuel Antonio National Park. 24 of the 27 major adventure activities offered in Costa Rica are available in Manuel Antonio so there is little need to waste your vacation time traveling to and from other areas.
If it is unique experiences you are looking for La Vista will be the right vacation spot for you:
Watch friendly Titi monkeys wrestle and play on the patio, watch Momma Titi nurse her newborn baby on the railing, observe the White Faced/Capuchin monkeys drinking from and bathing in the pool (keep the doors shut as they will also come in and steal your bananas!), awaken to the “howling” gorilla-like sounds of the Howler/Congo monkeys, or the raucous Chachalaca birds that nest in the flora below the Villa, spot Momma Sloth who may slowly detach her baby from her breast and gently hang it on a branch so she can stretch out and groom herself, or stop your car on the road to help a slow moving Sloth cross to safety, be startled awake when the nocturnal Kinkajou runs across the roof at night, and let’s not forget about all the crazy iguanas that live on the roof and in the surrounding trees and the gorgeous Toucans that visit every morning! The numerous geckos provide free pest control, but don't worry, they will not come down and try to sell you insurance!
These are just a few of the amazing experiences the jungle wildlife may offer you, providing you with one of the most fantastic and unbelievable vacation experiences of a lifetime!
It is midnight. Turn off the air-conditioning in the master bedroom. Open the French doors to the patio. Stand quietly a moment. Feel the warm Pacific Ocean breezes that pass constantly up the hillside to your villa; let them sweep through the bedroom and remove the artificial chill.
Step out on to the patio. Look up. The sky is a humid, dense black; but watch for occasional stars. Peer into the dark that surrounds your Costa Rican villa. You will not be able to see the trees that encircle you or the creatures sleeping in them, so close your eyes and listen. You will occasionally hear a cry from a wakeful bird, a strange noise from a mysterious night creature, but always you will hear an unceasing sound that sweeps through you, around you. That is the sound of the Pacific Ocean. Down the hill, half a mile from you, its waves are surging, surging, surging on to the shore. The sound of waves will surge over you all night, enveloping you as if you were immersed in the waves themselves.
Return to bed and go to sleep to the sound of the waves, to the feel of ocean air passing over your body. Awake minutes before dawn to waves of new sound, the roars of howler monkeys. The roars rise and fall in counterpoint to the ocean’s rhythm. As the sun begins to rise, the roars fade away, and you move downstairs to a cup of hot coffee on a west-facing deck; there you notice other creatures beginning their day. A toucan, an aricari, briefly visits a nearby tree. You hear rustling on the ground and catch a glimpse of a bustling chachalacha; it has nested beneath the bushes. The sound of the ocean moves over you, it moves over you. As the sky lightens, you see a slight movement from the three-toed sloth that has spent the night in the upper branches of a tree. As you watch, it stirs, moving with molasses-warm, thick languidness, to scratch its head and to adjust the placement of a paw. Moving almost as slowly, you sip your coffee. The sound of murmuring voices drifts from the road that passes hidden outside your villa: the first surfers are walking down to the beach. They have emerged early to join the movement of the waves. The sun rises fully; your family gathers around you on the deck. Day begins in earnest, and the sound of the ocean becomes the warp through which is drawn the weft of bright human chatter, monkey chatter, bird song.
In the evening, watch the brilliant sun slip soundlessly, mysteriously, beneath the horizon of the ocean.
This was my second visit to Quepos. The first time I stayed in a hotel/condo environment. Upon my arrival to Villa La Vista, I realized what an improvement to my previous trip. The breath taking views from the balcony of the beaches and park at Manuel Antonio were spectacular!
The house is situated on a dramatic hillside overlooking the ocean below. The local animal population, sloths, monkeys and even crabs, visited us. The floor plan is open and full of light. The house is well maintained and in very clean condition. The amenities of a laundry and full kitchen, internet, cable TV and much more make this vacation destination a must to book. Plus, the property manager, Ron, was very helpful with booking activities, local information on restaurants and much more. I was tired of hotels and crowds, this house was paradise. If you enjoy action, there is hiking through the National Park, jet skis, horseback riding on the beach and ATV or if you just want to relax and read a book, this house is perfect. I am planning my next vacation for 2011 and want to bring my grown children who will love this house.
La Villa Vista is absolute paradise! I can't recommend this enough. This is my 4th trip to Manuel Antonio and I have to say this is truly my favorite place. The villa itself is wonderful. It is beautifully furnished and well maintained. The view is spectacular. Having the 3rd bedroom in a separate area was wonderful for our teenage son who felt he was getting his own space as it has it's own kitchen and bath. The location of the villa is also ideal. It is walking distance to some of the best restaurants in Manuel Antonio including Cafe Milagro, Emilio's and Agua Azul.
The villa is within walking distance to the beach as well (it is a steep walk down an unpaved road so this walk may not be ideal for everyone but it's one of my favorites!) The concierges, Sabrina and Geralyn, were both extremely helpful. They were in constant communication prior to the trip as well as making arrangements for us when we did arrive in Manuel Antonio.
If you have the opportunity to stay here, I would recommend it without hesitation. You will not be disappointed!
This was my first time in Costa Rica and was beyond impressed with everything! 7 of us (3 adults and 4 kids ages 9-13) stayed at the Villa for 9 days. Amazing. If you read the reviews here about the view, the animals -- it's all true. We had mamma sloth with baby right off the balcony one day which was fun to see. The Villa is well maintained spacious and well equipped with towels, dinnerware, etc. We loved the pool too - especially the kids. It's not big but all four of them could splash and play and it worked great! If you don't mind walking (you can get a taxi of course) the location is good. Steep but short and rocky walk to Playitas -- and it will feel like you'e own private beach - nobody really down at that end. Steep but short walk to the business area to get groceries or catch the public bus. We did walk the other direction to Beisanz beach but didn't care for it as much as "our" beach and left soon after arriving. The owner Nancy and her staff were so helpful and accommodating every step of the way. I asked a lot of questions of all, and did a lot of excursion planning with Sabrina. We spent half our days at the beach/villa and half on tours. The quality of the tours was top notch and they picked us up and dropped us off at our door.
I'd recommend this home and the area of Manual Antonio. One note is that if you have young children that are at risk around a pool or a balcony you'd want to have eyes on them and it could be a bit challenging in the house but just vacationing there in general. Our kids were a great age for the trip and the home, in my opinion.
A family group of five adults, we were thrilled with our week-long Villa La Vista experience. The Villa is beautiful, and we so enjoyed hearing the comforting sounds of the ocean surf at all times of day. We happily spread out into the three spacious bedrooms (one in a separate apartment), each with its private ocean-view patio, and air-conditioning. We gathered in the main living area to enjoy the comfy chairs and sofa for reading and wifi time, or we moved on to the ocean-view patio, which everyone sought out from dawn ‘til dusk. That’s where we watched a sloth hanging out for twenty-four hours on a nearby tree; and that’s where the squirrel and white-faced monkeys visited us. Squirrel monkeys are not to be missed—they play like kittens! The kitchen was convenient and well-equipped, although we mainly prepared breakfast and lunch, as eating out was fun at the many nearby restaurants which we could easily walk to. With vegetarians in our group, we loved Café Milagro, which turned into one of our favorite spots for an occasional breakfast as well as dinner. Fred’s provided a fabulous view of the spectacular sunsets. The Villa, which is located on a dirt road, is very quiet and private—so private that it was possible to skinny dip in our own “plunge pool.” The pool is beautifully surrounded by flowering plants such as the magnificent hanging “lobster claw,” and it was our go-to spot for a fast refresher whenever we got too warm, for instance when we had made the walk back up the hill after a swim in the ocean. The ocean is just ten minutes down the road from the Villa; we couldn’t believe what felt like our own private white sand beach, with excellent surf! We were also thrilled to find trees lining the beach, so that we didn’t have to stay in the sun. Getting set up to stay at the Villa was made very easy by its owner, Nancy, who provided fast feedback and excellent information—everything one could want. The concierge, Geralyn, couldn’t have been more helpful, before and during our visit, from setting up tours to providing a birthday cake to calling cabs when our Spanish was insufficient. We were also grateful for the excellent attentions of the housekeeper, Lidette, and the groundskeeper, Chino. It was so very nice not to have to do laundry (unless we preferred to do it ourselves) and occasionally to have fresh sheets. Our only complaint? We should have stayed longer - and we will next year!
Returning to Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio, and La Vista for the second time only reconfirmed the notion that this is the greatest place on earth. If you love nature, come. If you love monkeys playing around you and stealing a mango from the kitchen table because you didn't close the glass door completely, come. If you love spectacular views, come. If you love friendly people, come. If you love amazing, fresh food, come. If you're in a rut and need something new, come.
There's a magic to this place that rivals that of any fictional world. In novels and movies, you're left with a feeling of sadness when the credits flash or the final page is read, because you lent yourself to another world for a time and then must return to your own. Here you are creating your own story in what seems another world. You get to experience the sound of the ocean roaring over morning tamarindo juice. You get to wake up to toucans cawing back and forth. You get to have monkeys yank on your hair because you're dozing on the edge of the pool instead of paying attention to them. You get to turn off all the lights in the villa and stare in awe at the night sky so full of stars that you get dizzy from the magnitude and closeness of their overwhelming proximity. Go rafting down the Savegre River. Go horseback riding on the beach. Go to la feria and try the mouthwatering fruits. Step out of your comfort zone and live.
Write your own story, create your own journey, experience Pura Vida so you never grow old.
This was my first adventure to Costa Rica. The view from the balcony is outstanding. Swimming in the pool, you never know who will come and greet you. Monkeys daily, iguanas also daily. My first time seeing a sloth, and can't forget the tucans. The villa was located 10 minutes from shopping, restaurants, bars. Everything you need for a wonderful vacation is in the home. The concierge team will help you with all your needs!!!
