Needs some TLC

  • 3 of 5

The pictures seem quite old, as the property needs some work. We had a group of 13, and found lots of issues. Hanging wires, ceilings cracked/falling down, construction area as if they wanted to do an add on but ran short of funding. The street leading to the driveway is in need of serious repair. This property is also multi-layer. So some of the rooms are under the pool and hence have stairs.

We stayed in the dolphin room, and it was quite run down. The refrigerator didn't work, and Ricardo said someone wa going to come look at it, but after 5 days, no one showed. Asked him about it 3 times. The ceiling was cracked and falling down. The closet doors didn't close, and one frame looked like termites got to it. The door to the bathroom was difficult to open, and it was an outdoor bathroom. Shower head needs to be cleaned out, but otherwise the bathroom was ok.

The kitchen is a tight space. And since our fridge didn't work, and there were 13 of us, the main fridge was often too full to accommodate everything we needed it to. Pans, flatware, etc are serviceable. The spices are probably leftovers, and are all clumped together from humidity, so I don't know why they're not just tossed. Grill was great to have. Washer/dryer were nice. You have to provide your own detergent.

Hammock has a huge hole...and looks like it has had multiple repairs already.

A dog came by and stayed with us for a while, we named him Rocket and were sad to leave him. Monkeys were present early one morning. Those who were up at 5 got to see them.

Pool needs TLC. Missing tiles make it rough on the feet. Seems like the pool "toys" were leftovers. 4 noodles, one raft, a floating net that is unusable for actually playing. But, we were glad to have the little bit that was left.

Santos was great, just as the reviews said. Maid was nice...didn't change out sheets or towels, but made the bed, took out the trash and swept. Since some of our ceiling had fallen on the kitchenette counter, we could tell she never wipes that off. Night guy just walks around and shines his light in the trees. Not sure what would attack from there, but it was nice.

The path to the beach needs TLC. The gate is rusted and not on any sort of hinge. Lots of stairs. But a nice beach, even though the ocean was a little rough.

Furniture is all worn out. And mosquitos were all over the outside area. DEET is a must.

This COULD be a really nice place. Instead, it's just average.

Our Favorite Family Vacation Location!

  • 5 of 5

We love this wonderful property, and have returned multiple times! Each time, we find more and more improvements to a place we already love! Ricardo, the owner, is always happy to help us with suggestions and guidance -- including travel and car arangements, as well as activities (near and far).

The property is spacious, which allows for corners of quiet and privacy, but the common areas are perfectly sized for the group to feel together, as well. The bedrooms are quiet and very comfortable -- especially with A/C! The kitchen has everything we needed to prepare and feed our large crowd, though we were equally delighted with the meals that Miguel, the chef, prepared for us!

We have travelled extensively, and the beach is one of the best we've ever experienced! Though there are days with exciting waves, the water near shore is quiet enough for the smallest kids to enjoy (2- and 4-year olds). There are no crowds, the water is clear, and temperature is perfect. The pool is great, and one of the best memories for the kids.

For those in our group who were seeking adventure, Ricardo connected us with folks to arrange the activities we were interested in. Over the years, this has included fishing, mud baths, zip lining, horseback riding on the beach, and turtle watching.

Our family plans to return for many years to come, because we can't imagine a more perfect location than Villa Martita!

Mar Tita and Flamingo beach are excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 13 comfortably stayed at Mar Tita. Having the pool or beach as water fun was fantastic. The beach and ocean were absolutely gorgeous & so UNcrowded. Swimming, boogie boarding, & snorkeling was a blast! SUPER fun activities we did were shopping, off-shore fishing, the river cruise, snorkeling, horse-back riding, & surfing lessons. The owner & house keeping staff are so kind, pleasant, & accommodating. If you really enjoy wildlife, this home is a perfect place! Iguanas, parakeets, howler monkeys, & even a bird of paradise graced us with their presence multiple times. Two recommendations would be to wear bug spray & look in the shower before you shower. We had several small crabs & a spider in a shower.... But that is what you get living among the costal rain forest. :) This home is extremely comfortable & highly recommended. Costa Rica - Pure Vida - Love it!

Amazing! Perfect property for relaxation and fun!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd time returning. The property is great for a small family/couple (as you can use just the main house)....or an extended family (like we did). We had 18 people stay there and it was perfect. There are enough bedrooms and space for our large group to feel "together" but not be on top of each other. The rooms are all great (AC, clean, awesome bathrooms).

The pool was perfect for the kids after their time on the beach. The beach is beautiful. White sand, clear water, and hardly any people at all (A crowded day is 4 or 5 other people on the beach).

House is located walking distance to a hotel that arranges tours (we did Zip lining and horseback riding). You can also walk to restaurants and small shops.

The owner, Ricardo, is such a wonderful host. He has always accommodated our requests and gives tons of suggestions before you arrive - to make sure you experience is perfect.

A really special place!

Good for family reunions

  • 3 of 5

We recently stayed for a family reunion at Villa Marita. The house was spacious enough to fit all of us (18 people, ages ranging from 72 to 6). The location of the house was perfect, with a short, but steep, walk to the beach (not recommended for families with older or disabled individuals). The main house was spacious enough to host many of our members of the family, however, the kitchen was the smallest room in the entire property, which doesn't make sense when you can accommodate that many people in the property. The apartments were very comfy, especially the room underneath the pool, which has the king size bed. There are some quirky aspects to the house; for example, some of the rooms have bathrooms that (although private) are outdoors. Santos (the groundskeeper) was a pleasure to get to know, he was very polite and always kept pride in keeping the property clean.

The view from the house was breathtaking... The pool was very clean , and provided many hours of entertainment for the children.

There were, however, some areas that need some care. The paint in some of the rooms had huge parts that were pealing off. The counters in the some of the bathrooms were also falling apart and had some holes, and the faucets were loose. Also, the kitchen was well supplied, but most pots were falling apart.

Angelica, the cleaning lady was nice to have, and did a great job keeping the house clean.

In my opinion, this house has the potential to be one of the nicest spots in Flamingo, if the property receives a bit more TLC.

"Where did you find this place?"

  • 5 of 5

This house was truly a wonderfully unique find that worked so well for our vacation with 18 of our closest family members. After several hours of searching for the perfect place for our group, we settled on this house for it's casual atmosphere, views, proximity to the beach, and layout. It didn't disappoint on any of those factors. It is a large piece of beautifully landscaped, ocean view property that is laid out in such a way that each individual family had a bit of privacy as well as enough comfortable lounging and dining space for everyone to be together. It is a well-loved home that is need of some cosmetic repairs and updates, but after we settled in, we were able to see the character and uniqueness of the house and appreciate it's unmatched location. Several updates have already been made and it is a work in progress. The pool was outstanding and well looked after by the grounds keeper. The beach was an easy walk, very clean, and nearly empty. There are quite a few steps around the property, for those with mobility issues.

Ricardo, the owner/manager, does a wonderful job in helping to plan your vacation, not just rent you his house. He is always available for questions and provides tonnes of info for transport, meal planning, tours, etc. We decided to use a local chef to provide all our meals. He created excellent meals that were shopped for, prepped, served, and cleaned up at an extremely reasonable price. We highly recommend Miguel. We didn't rent a car, but were able to use the recommended transportation company to provide taxi service at a reasonable rate. A rental car wouldn't hurt, even for a few days.

Contact Ricardo. He'll take it from there.

Owner's Response: We’re glad to know that our property has once again proven perfect for large family groups. The property’s great location, spacious layout, privacy, landscaping and large pool are all a big asset. We are completing the upgrades to the kitchen this month and we just changed the living room’s sofas and TV in the main house. We’re glad you enjoyed Chef Miguel’s service, it’s great to have someone doing all the cooking and cleaning when you’re on vacation. We’d love to have you back!
