Richard purchased this house in 2010
Because of the spectacular views and proximity to downtown Asheville.
We enjoy entertaining here. The kitchen, dining, and living are all in one large room. The music system makes the house especially livable. We can listen to jazz or blues at the table while the kids listen to "their stuff" downstairs; any can be muted independently, i.e. while a movie is being watched. Sunday morning breakfasts on one of the decks overlooking the city are nice. The sauna is very relaxing. It includes a six-foot bench, indirect lighting, and music.
Usually I look forward to mostly the food in Asheville, but this time we were anticipating staying in this home as well! We were deciding between staying downtown in a small loft or this home where we were close enough to downtown, but had plenty of space for 5 adults. There is so much detail and design that went into this home that I would love to hear the story behind it all. Easy to find from downtown and probably could walk it. Very spacious living and dining areas and well equipped kitchen. One bedroom upstairs and two downstairs -- all with a view of downtown and the mountains and excellent bedding and linens. Owner is very helpful and responsive (had an internet issue of which he looked into immediately). What an experience to enjoy this place for a few days -- thank you for sharing your home with us!
I was there for a get-a-way. I did not want to leave. It felt as if I were in a Penthouse in Manhattan.
Spectacular is the only word for this property!
You must see and experience this home to fully appreciate it - pictures do not do it justice. No detail has been spared in the design of this beautiful, contemporary home nestled in the side of a mountain overlooking downtown Asheville. It has spactacular panoramic views of both downtown Asheville and surrounding mountains. The home was designed so that the landscape can be fully enjoyed with floor to ceiling windows spanning the entire back side of the house. The home was also designed with space and privacy in mind from the main level on-suite with jetted soaking tub to the two additional bedrooms, bath, living area, terrace and sauna on the lower-level. Also on the main floor are the open living room, dining room, 1/2 bath and well-appointed kitchen. Then kitchen has all utensils and cookware needed to prepare a 5-course meal! Out of this world, was the "Sonos" wireless sound system throughout the house. We had never heard anything like it and loved it so much, we are installing one at home. The decor throughout the home is very attractive and equally comfortable. Finally, if you like the outdoors, you'll love the spacious main-level patio which has another large dining table for outdoor enjoyment. The owner, Richard was very helpful and ensured that the reservation process was easy and that we had everything we needed for a memorable vacation. We highly recommend this home to others. We went sightseeing while in Asheville, but our favorite part of our vacation by far was the time spent, relaxing enjoying this peaceful retreat and all of its' amenities. This is the best property we've rented from VRBO (out of 21). Don't miss it; you won't be disappointed - A true delight!!
We were very pleased to stay here for our trip to Asheville. This was a girl's getaway with my 93 year old mother and two sisters. The house was great with beautiful views and a great deck to enjoy morning coffee among the trees. The bedroom and the bathroom on the main floor were great for my mother--everything she needed was on one floor. She enjoyed the house so much. A very comfortable home, including the beds. The house is conveniently located near the downtown area and yet you feel that you are out of city. Highly recommend!
We actually stayed at Richard's house in February 2013 but the calendar would not let me go back that far. I sometimes forget to go back and leave reviews. We use VRBO approximately 15-20 times a year all over the world and this house is the coolest so far. I love the architecture and layout as others have commented. (what else would you expect from a homeowner/architect) Richard used every space of this house to make it comfortable, functional, sleek. It was a real relaxing romantic getaway.
When you first drive up to the house it doesn't appear that it would be so spacious but when you go inside ... large. We really liked the long table off the kitchen where we set up all our working projects (yeah, still had to work even while on vacation) and enjoyed going downstairs to watch television. Didn't even realize there were two extra bedrooms downstairs. The washer/dryer worked perfectly. Loved the Japanese soaking tub.
A few things that were off the charts cool:
The views in the winter from the deck.
The lighting is perfect and can be adjusted to your every mood.
Sound system crazy .. it was the first time using Sonos and it was easy to download the app and use it off my ipad but I don't think you need to do that but it was great.
The kitchen ... I really liked it being open to the dining and living area upstairs.
Large Windows .. they made it seem like you were in the trees.
Richard was very accommodating even though we did not get to the house until very late at night.
Do not hesitate to experience this place ... it's has enough room and would be great for families not just couples.
My family and I have returned from a wonderful get-away to Asheville - and Richard's Home was the highlight! Every need was anticipated in how the home was furnished and supplied. We had the pleasure of briefly meeting Richard, the Homeowner - and he was extremely welcoming and helpful. The Sonos Music System is terrific and easy to use. The Home itself is sleek and gorgeous with wonderful views. We actually chose to stay in one night just to enjoy the large deck - and lovely view. We would love to return and stay here again!
