Overview

Essex Town Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Cozy apartment with flower gardens and open lawns in a lovely rural setting. Walking, cross country ski paths, mountain bike paths just outside your door. Year round outdoor hot tub for the best stargazing. Although the hot tub is shared with our family it is yours while you are here!

Open and hot 24 hours!

Private porch with sitting area or hammock hanging.

Area for bonfire and wood provided for that fun night of toasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

Every season offers something special. Fall is the best with sunny days, magically changes leaves to gold's and reds. Winter with all the different shapes of flakes turning the yard into a winter wonderland. In heavy storms we will share our garage with you! Spring is a joy with the tulips and daffodils. And then that summer heat to swim, bike, and lay in the sun. Private patio with sitting or hammock. All linens are provided.

Pets are ok if approved prior. There are cats who live on the property. Available year-round, weekend rentals possible.

Washer and Dryer are available, but are shared with family. We are happy to help you.

Although I advertised romantic because it is a special spot, I also am a parent of 3 grown children. I welcome families with children. It is ideal to have space to spread out and a separate bedroom for parents. I will provide games, DVDs, toys that are age appropriate given advance notice.

For the 3rd child/person I have a roll away bed, to set up in the living room near the convertible futon. It is so difficult to travel with 3 children in one room hotels I wanted to offer that to larger families.

The area is perfect for parents visiting college students as YOU get a home away from home. Close to the universities, but with room for your child to come visit and hang out and even stay over some nights. Dorm living can get tiresome and a trip to the country can be rejuvenating and relaxing for that student.

There are organic and regular grocery stores and excellent restaurants with 5 minutes of the house. The local factory outlets are also within 5 minutes.

$600/week with one half of the weekly rental required upon booking and the the other half required 2 weeks before arrival. There is a $300/damage deposit required with first deposit. This will not be used and will be returned upon inspection of the property after departure.

About The Owner

Myself, husband and three children have lived at the house on this property for 20 years. It is a wonderful place to hang out. We are hikers, bikers, skiers, knitters, and avid readers. We are in the country, but close to the major Vt city of Burlington (20 minutes), UVM and Champlain College (20 minutes), St Michael's (15 minutes). We love going to all the local ski area. The two closest 16 miles away (Bolton and Smugglers Notch) and the others about 30-40 minutes (Sugarbush, Stowe, Jay Peak). We are excited to share our little corner of paradise with others.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing this lovely space with us. It was so quiet! We loved that it was so easy to go visit so many places in Northern Vermont in just 20 minutes! A great jumping off point for us. We are sorry the leaves hadn't started to turn yet, we may have to travel back.

The hot tub under the stars was our favorite part. It is amazing how many stars there are when you step away from the major cities.

Thank you again. Can't wait to return.

Clean, comfortable, convenient

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very clean. The air conditioner worked well. The bedroom comfortably slept two, and the fold-out futon couch was comfortable for two smallish people. Rebecca was very friendly and offered use of the pool, hot tub and trampoline. We stayed with our 14lb chihuahua mix and he was happy too. The location was very convenient for driving to Burlington and Shelburne (about 20-30 min). The shower worked well & there was plenty of hot water. The dining area was pretty and very functional. The microwave and refrigerator worked well, and there were plenty of condiments. We used the tv and wifi during some rainy weather and both worked great. Sheets, towels, extra pillows and blankets were provided & were in good condition and comfortable. We were very happy with our stay.

Comfortable and convenient proximity to Burlington

My family and I enjoyed our stay. Nice setting. The in-law style apartment was cozy and clean. One recommendation - the kitchen could have use few more dishes. The hot tub was a good feature.

Cozy, beautiful rental house

  • 5 of 5

I am glad that someone else had to cancel this vacation rental so that we were able to get in :)

This is a nice, warm place, very serene and calm. The apartment was cozy and super clean, lots of towels and bed sheets. The furniture is eclectic and charming. The hot tub is pure heaven. Would recommend this for a group of 4 ppl. I will definitely like to rent this place when i visit Vermont again.

Okay, served our purpose, but not great

  • 3 of 5

We recently stayed in this rental for four nights while attending a family wedding as well as pre and post wedding events. We chose the property because pets "were considered" and we were traveling with our dog. Of course, we are considerate pet owners and kept our dog crated when we could not be with him at the rental. The property is located on a nice rural road that was perfect for walking our dog. We did have a couple issues with our rental, however. We arrived at 3:30 and were surprised to find the property had not been cleaned after the previous rental. (We were later informed that check-in time is 4:00, but I could not find this in email correspondence.) We were able to reach the owner by phone, but she was 4 hours away. She did arrange for someone to come to clean the property, but that meant we had to find something to do for a couple hours when we were tired and ready to unwind after a 7 hour drive. We did not find the property to be as quiet as others have reported. The apartment adjoins the family's house. One night during our stay the family was quite loud until 1:00 am in the area of their house right next to the rental apartment and on the back deck just outside. The bedroom furnishings were nice...the bed was comfortable, although the top sheet had a large tear in it and I worried that the owner would think we had torn it. In the living area, the TV is good, but other furnishings are an assortment of what appear to be family leftovers, discards, etc. A couple things did not work too well...to get the light to come on in the living area (a fluorescent light in the ceiling) we had to stand on a chair and bang on the ceiling area with a broom handle. All in all, okay, but I doubt we would return.

Owner's Response: Dear Gretchen and Kurt, Thank you for your informational review. I am looking into the concerns you had with the lighting. It is very helpful to know these things as I do not stay there myself. I am so sorry about your arrival, and the apartment not being prepared. I had new cleaners that clearly did not understand that when I say it has to be ready between noon and 3pm that is what I mean. They had successfully worked for me for several months, but that was the last day they were employed with me. Again, I was appalled to get your call that you were there and the apartment was not prepared. The furniture in the apartment is from my family (except for the new mattresses). We are 7th generation Vermonters and every piece has family stories. The photos are my direct decendants:) A number of pieces are antique cherry Hinkel Harris. The late night gathering was a group of exchange students from Europe. I didn't hear them in the hot tub late and my room is nearby, but I apologize for them. I do not regularly host exchange students, but they were a lovely group. Rebecca

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our dog stayed at Rebecca's lovely home. It was centrally located to the places we wanted to visit while on vacation - all of the following are a must: Vermont Quilt Festival, West Bolton Golf Club, Burlington, etc. I hate to say any more - lest I won't be able to get a reservation with Rebecca again!

This was a really quiet location to sleep & relax, too! The home is located on a street which is a great place to walk the dog. The place was really clean, too. The bed was quite comfortable.

Rebecca was quick to respond to our questions and gave us recommendations for restaurants, too.

We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Dear Nancy, Thank you for the lovely review. I am so happy you enjoyed not only your accommodations but also our wonderful state. I heard the Quilt festival was wonderful this year. We have so many art/music festivals in Vermont. I hope you made it to my friends pizza place, Pizzeria Verita. If not, you must return soon:) Thank you again. Warmly Rebecca

Great place to stay...location is fabulous!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Rebecca's guest apartment for about 10 days in September while looking at houses as we are planning to relocate to Vermont next year. One of the reasons we chose this place was that it's perfectly situation to make trips into the Burlington and surrounding areas and to the Montpelier/Stowe areas quickly, easily and through beautiful areas. We were more than happy we did. Rebecca is as friendly as can be, her place is quiet and surrounded by forest like vegetation. We had everything we needed to make breakfasts and travel lunches, while dining out at night. What she didn't have she provided immediately. Everything was clean, clean, clean...a huge deal for us. We are planning a trip back in April and have already booked our stay.
