Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Cozy apartment with flower gardens and open lawns in a lovely rural setting. Walking, cross country ski paths, mountain bike paths just outside your door. Year round outdoor hot tub for the best stargazing. Although the hot tub is shared with our family it is yours while you are here!

Open and hot 24 hours!

Private porch with sitting area or hammock hanging.

Area for bonfire and wood provided for that fun night of toasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

Every season offers something special. Fall is the best with sunny days, magically changes leaves to gold's and reds. Winter with all the different shapes of flakes turning the yard into a winter wonderland. In heavy storms we will share our garage with you! Spring is a joy with the tulips and daffodils. And then that summer heat to swim, bike, and lay in the sun. Private patio with sitting or hammock. All linens are provided.

Pets are ok if approved prior. There are cats who live on the property. Available year-round, weekend rentals possible.

Washer and Dryer are available, but are shared with family. We are happy to help you.

Although I advertised romantic because it is a special spot, I also am a parent of 3 grown children. I welcome families with children. It is ideal to have space to spread out and a separate bedroom for parents. I will provide games, DVDs, toys that are age appropriate given advance notice.

For the 3rd child/person I have a roll away bed, to set up in the living room near the convertible futon. It is so difficult to travel with 3 children in one room hotels I wanted to offer that to larger families.

The area is perfect for parents visiting college students as YOU get a home away from home. Close to the universities, but with room for your child to come visit and hang out and even stay over some nights. Dorm living can get tiresome and a trip to the country can be rejuvenating and relaxing for that student.

There are organic and regular grocery stores and excellent restaurants with 5 minutes of the house. The local factory outlets are also within 5 minutes.

$600/week with one half of the weekly rental required upon booking and the the other half required 2 weeks before arrival. There is a $300/damage deposit required with first deposit. This will not be used and will be returned upon inspection of the property after departure.

About The Owner

Myself, husband and three children have lived at the house on this property for 20 years. It is a wonderful place to hang out. We are hikers, bikers, skiers, knitters, and avid readers. We are in the country, but close to the major Vt city of Burlington (20 minutes), UVM and Champlain College (20 minutes), St Michael's (15 minutes). We love going to all the local ski area. The two closest 16 miles away (Bolton and Smugglers Notch) and the others about 30-40 minutes (Sugarbush, Stowe, Jay Peak). We are excited to share our little corner of paradise with others.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing this lovely space with us. It was so quiet! We loved that it was so easy to go visit so many places in Northern Vermont in just 20 minutes! A great jumping off point for us. We are sorry the leaves hadn't started to turn yet, we may have to travel back.

The hot tub under the stars was our favorite part. It is amazing how many stars there are when you step away from the major cities.

Thank you again. Can't wait to return.

A great place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I wanted to come to Vermont to check out the Burlington and Montpelier areas for a week. I found this hidden gem tucked away in a town that is pretty much right in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go so we thought, perfect! The space is a lot bigger than I thought. The bed is comfy and having a kitchen is a huge plus. We plan on returning this winter for a snowboarding trip and will definitely stay here again!

Great country/city place

  • 5 of 5

I loved the location. In country, but so near to Burlington and the little town of Richmond. We loved that it became chilly and could use the gas fireplace.

perfect retreat away

  • 4 of 5

I had a wonderful stay in this apartment over the weekend. I went up to see my daughter at UVM with my sister, niece (14) and nephew (10) and my daughter joined us. It fit us all just right because we are a close family - 2 in the bedroom, 2 on the futon and 1 on an air mattress on the floor. It was comfortable but people sleeping in the living room area on the futon and couch would have trouble sleeping if they need it to be at all dark in the morning - even with shades pulled on the windows, the sun pours in the skylights! (fortunately, not a problem for us)

We were pleased to see that it has a simple but full kitchen, and spacious bathroom. It was so lovely to be able to use the hot tub both nights which was very easy and comfortable.

The toilet had a few problems but the owner was aware and very responsive.

The only other problem was that although she specifically requests that we don't hang wet towels on chairs, there are very few hooks really to hang them on - a bit of a problem as we had more wet towels from using the hot tub. (Would be easy to add some hooks in the hallway or over the closet doors.)

It is a 20-25 min drive from Burlington but it is an easy drive. It was a nice getaway from the busyness and crowds. I would happily return to stay at Brooklyn in Vermont again!

Secluded cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful secluded location. We were here in late August with gorgeous weather to be outside. The apartment was homey ,clean, and stocked with basic supplies. We found it very comfortable for the three of us. There are a few hiking trails around the property and nice pool and hot tub on the deck, which we really enjoyed. There are no stores in walking distance but only 10 minute drive away. The owners were very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend this place if this is the kind of getaway you're looking for

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review. We are so happy that you and your grand daughter had a nice time. I hope to see you again in the future. It looks like a new gas grill is in our near future. Thank you for the understanding when it didn't work!

OK, but needs updating and cell phone service

  • 3 of 5

The owner is lovely and accommodating; however, there are some issues that future visitors should know. There is little to no cell phone service ... none inside the apartment, and only few places to stand in the parking area. The apartment has a nice layout and is spacious, but is in need of updating and some repairs. For example, several windows can't be opened and cabinets/furniture need some attention and a deep clean.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your suggestions. I will speak to my cleaners regarding your notes. The desk and bureaus are antiques made in Vermont, but I can look at the need for cleaning. Vermont cell service is a problem for us all. Even the governor speaks of it regularly. It is totally dependent on your service carrier, although even then can be a hassle. That is why I offer a land line if you don't have good service. Many young folks are able to use and do use internet for their phone calls - IE with Google, etc.. so I don't hear about the issue as much any more. I am sorry you were struggling with this. 2/8 of the casement windows do not currently have working cranks . The cranks have turned out to be difficult to replace and have been ordered through the window company.

Comfortable and Close to Lots of Activities

  • 4 of 5

My sister and I chose this property so that my dogs and I could come spend the weekend with her while she ran in the Vermont City marathon. The property was clean and comfortable. Rebecca and Kent had even put fresh flowers in a vase on the table, which was a very welcoming touch! There was plenty of room to set up two large dog crates and still have room to move through the apartment comfortably. The apartment is close to many different types of activities--it didn't take long at all to pick my sister up from the airport or to get to Burlington to have lunch, shop, and walk by the water. The dogs loved visiting nearby Shelburne Bay Park for walks each day as well as Mills Riverside Park. It was easy to get to many different breweries to check off places on our brewery passport, too! We also loved the art in the apartment and were so excited to see some old Nancy Drew books on the shelves! There were just a few minor issues that kept it from being 5 stars: one of the first things I noticed when we walked in was a small patch of carpet missing under the door to the hot tub; in addition to worrying that the owner would think we had done that (even though my dogs were crated or out adventuring with us the whole time), there were a few carpet nails or something sticking out of the floor--they were right below the door and we didn't use the hot tub, so we didn't have to worry about stepping on them, but for someone opening that door, it might be dangerous. Also, when I arrived, there weren't any trash bags in the kitchen or bathroom cans, so I had to poke around and find those myself, which isn't a big deal but it was a bit inconvenient when I went to throw something out and then realized there wasn't a bag. On the first night, there was some music/tv noise from the family's side of the property, but the bed was so comfortable that even though I could still hear it once I got in bed, I still fell asleep quickly and I didn't hear anything the rest of the weekend. Overall, the apartment was clean, comfortable, and a great place to relax between all of the different activities we did over the weekend. We'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to be a little outside of the hustle and bustle of Burlington but wanting to be close enough to enjoy the city easily. Thank you to Rebecca and Kent for a great weekend getaway!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your lovely review. I am sorry the garbage bags were not visible, or in the can. And I thought I had talked to you about the situation with the rug. A new one was ordered, but that spot and another I guess you didn't notice were damaged by the last dog that stayed over. Fortunately, the insurance is covering it, but it involves have the place open for several days in a row for the folks to pull up the carpet and lay the new one. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy the hot tub. Warmly Rebecca
