Nice Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one seriously chic space. Old Town & beach 5 mins

Our huge 102m2 (1,100 sq ft) duplex apartment in the historic port of Nice is south-facing, quiet and beautiful, yet minutes from several beaches, Old Town, tram, airport bus and train. Our top floor duplex apartment was completely renovated in 2015. It has art on the walls, great music on the iPod, plus travel apps and classic French movies on our iPad. Not forgetting three divine wooden beds with fine linen, a library of books, and every cook book known to man.

But as the apartment building dates from the 1850s (the building was once an olive oil distribution depot) heaps of antique charm remain. There are three big bedrooms with double beds; the first is really romantic and has a €3,000 Habitat mattress, antique lights and three metre high ceilings. The second bedroom is larger and boasts an antique double bed with €2,500 Tempurpedic mattress, plus a library of guidebooks, history books and an iPad 3. The third is the largest of them all. It' also sublime and south-facing, with a new Ikea bed, writing desk and library.

The living room opens on to the fantastically well equipped kitchen. We have a 1930s wooden table for six, Roche Bobois sofa and fireplace. More photos are available on request, just email us for more details!

About Tristan Rutherford

I am a British travel journalist based in Nice, France. I own this lovely apartment with my American wife, Kathryn. As we write for Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic, The Sunday Times and several other travel magazines, we'd be happy to recommend a heap of charming restaurants and great beaches across the South of France.

Tristan Rutherford purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Tristan Rutherford chose Nice

Mainly the sun! It's completely south-facing with sun from dawn until dusk pouring in. And as it's on a courtyard it's totally quiet at night, despite being in the dead centre of Nice. The location is also amazing, with an award-winning boulangerie on the corner, 100 antique stores on the same block, and the Old Town, beach and scores of restaurants within a five-minute stroll.

What makes this apartment unique

We purchased an iPad in 2012 for our guests to use. It is pre-loaded with some great French movies, travel apps, video games and lots of cool links. We love playing with it, and hope you do too! The fireplace is unique and very cozy in winter, as is the library, cook books, kitchen and dining table for six. We love entertaining, eating and drinking and expect that our guests will too. What's totally unique is the peace and quiet at night, very rare in Nice, plus the personal, French, traditional and very chic decoration that makes it so special. Our final renovation in 2014 turning our much-loved apartment into three bedroom duplex. There is so much space it's untrue!

Beautiful and charming apartment.

  • 5 of 5

After researching apartments in Nice, we spent a week at this great location. The apartment is located in old nice, surrounded by antique stores, a charming area. Very convenient to restaurants, a few minutes walk to the Old Port, buses and shops. Marilia, the apartment manager looked after us from start to finish. Place is roomy and our two teenagers had more than enough room to spread out. We were there for the EURO 2016 and the place was buzzing with activities and excitement. We loved the apartment, beautifully renovated but still retains its French charm, most importantly it was quiet, so great to go back to after a full day. Lots to do at nearby beaches and ports. Highly, highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thanks a million Tamara! You're right, it's all about the location. Our three bedroom apartment is only two minutes from Place Garibaldi, the historic Port, the Monaco bus and Nice tramway - with 100 restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity. The Cours Saleya and Old Town are seven minutes away on foot. We're so grateful for your feedback on our apartment's grand renovation. It was completed in 2015 to add extra style and modernity to our 1850 property - it was actually built when Abraham Lincoln was President. We know have two ultra modern bathrooms, a brand new kitchen fit for Jamie Oliver, and three fabulous double beds, each with the world's best mattresses. Please bring your wonderful family back to France next year! Kind regards, Tristan

Repeat, repeat visitor!

  • 5 of 5

I've written a review before but I've been back twice since so an updated review is warranted especially with the apartment renovation. My first stay was 3 months from February to April, then 6 weeks in April and May and then this year 5 weeks starting in late January. Weather was mostly sunny and temperatures mild so certainly an improvement from East Coast US winters and early spring. Tristan and Kathryn's apartment is like home to me (and my little dog Coco who comes along). The recent addition is fabulous and made a great apartment even better! I had some visitors during my recent stay so there was plenty of room for everyone. In the 5 years since I first started coming to the apartment, the Port area has really blossomed. Lots of new hip restaurants and wine bars but it still maintains a very local flavor. That plus proximity to sea is what attracts me so much to this part of Nice. I'm not sure when I'll visit Nice again - soon, I hope - but no doubt this is where I'll stay. I feel that Tristan and Kathryn are family now so can't imagine going anyplace else! It really is a perfect place to stay along the Côte d'Azur!

Owner's Response: Dear Mary and Coco, What a pleasure it was to receive your fabulous message. After five stays you have become our all time best guest! It's true that the French Riviera is just as pretty in winter as it is in summer. The museums are quiet, the markets are full, and you are treated like an honorary local. Most importantly, it's still sunny almost every single day! The renovation of our beautiful apartment was completed in 2015. We can now welcome guests with two brand new bathrooms, a 50m2 living room (larger than many apartments) and the kitchen of our dreams. Mary, come back and stay with us again soon! You are so welcome. Tristan and Kathryn

Owner's Response: Dear Wendi, what a kind message. We welcome parties of six, like you, and couples of two, like the guests before you, with equal pleasure. Glad you had a wonderful time. The tram, airport bus, Monaco bus and footpaths all link to our front door. With the brand new underground parking that opened in late 2015 our apartment is an even better base that every before. Happy you enjoyed the kitchen too. It's a difficult choice between cooking a market fiesta - or eating in the restaurants around the corner! Thanks for your visit, Tristan

Huge apartment near the port

  • 5 of 5

Tristan is a travel writer and it shows in his preparation for arrival and the minute you enter the apartment. Multiple guidebooks on the area are available that he and his wife Katherine have written and they know their stuff! There isn't anything he and his wife haven't thought of to make a family stay enjoyable. His responses to questions were very thorough and prompt. The apartment itself is very comfortable with a very large kitchen for cooking. Just a few minutes walk to the Veille Ville and the beaches of Nice and Promenade des Anglais, the location is great. There is a large Monoprix and two smaller grocery stores very close by, along with an excellent organic food store. There is some renovation and construction for a tram that's going on in and around the building, but we didn't hear any construction noise at all. The new tram will pass right by the apartment when completed. Although this is an historic building with no AC, we were not uncomfortable with the wonderful sea breeze coming in, even in July. All in all, a very pleasant stay in Nice. My daughter didn't want to leave! (Neither did I...)

Owner's Response: Mary, will you come back soon?! You and your family are so welcome. Glad you had enough space with the 50m2 (500sqft) living room and three bedrooms. Your shopping trips sound great! We also love to organic options at Biocity by Place Garibaldi, and Quotidien on Rue Martin Seytour. The latter is run by an old Italian family of hardcore Slow Food adherents. You can even eat there, and buy organic wine by the litre. Just bring your own bottle! In 2016 there will still be some tram work in the area as city authorities make an underground link from Nice Port to Nice Airport. When done it will be fabulous. Of course, you can hear no tram noise or construction work in our lovely apartment. We still can't wait until it's finished. We remain on hand for our guests. So glad we could answer your questions about dining, day trips and favourite beaches. All best wishes, Tristan

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

Tristan has made this apartment very comfortable, everything is excellent quality. If you like to cook, the kitchen is stocked well enough for a chef. The beds and linens are fit for a queen. I highly recommend the apartment.

Owner's Response: Dear Roz, what kind words. In fact, my wife Kathryn is a food writer for the UK and US press so the kitchen really is fit for a chef. I eat well! The beds are all first class with Tempur or Habitat mattresses. We use the apartment ourselves in winter and we prefer to invest in the best. You can't beat a good meal and a good night's sleep can you? Please come again next year. You and your extended family are so welcome. Tristan

Marvellous central Nice apartment

  • 5 of 5

We were really delighted with our stay in this city centre Nice apartment. Really neat and well laid out; all the fixtures fittings and "little extras" one could ask for - in a bright, comfortable apartment. The owners are travel journalists and obviously their experiences have paid off as they know exactly what you need when you arrive and want to settle down - just perfect. It's really near to the port area, which means marvellous restaurants - walking distance to the beach and close to supermarkets to stock up on essentials - albeit there is a nice welcome pack on first arrival. Definitely worth it and we'll be sure to come back.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jonathan! Glad you liked the welcome pack. Having a bottle of Bordeaux to open on arrival gets the holiday started doesn't it? Glad you like all the extras. We have reading lights by each bed, stacks of wine glasses, classic literature about the French Riviera, and much more. As you mentioned we are travel journalists who write about Nice for Time Out and The Times. Our guidebooks are in a huge pile waiting for you - and we're on hand for any personal tips. Please come back soon! Tristan and Kathryn
