Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Harvest Moon cabin is located on the ridge above beautiful Helton Creek, a stocked trout stream, one of the premier trout streams in North Carolina. The cabin is located above the creek with long range views of the Helton Creek Valley. At night you can sit in the hot tub and watch the stars come out, including the beautiful Milky way. In the summer you will be treated to a light show by the fire flies as the trees are lit up like Christmas! The cabin is located on our organic farm so there are usually plenty of great fresh vegetables. There is a swimming hole on the property, a great way to cool off on a summer day.

The cabin is a real log home, a Southland log home package built in 2007. There is a queen size bed in the bedroom and a double bed in the spacious loft. The total square footage is approximately 1200 square feet. There is a complete kitchen, we provide all linens, paper products and detergents so all you need is food and clothes. Here is how one of our renters described our cabin: 'We do a lot of these sorts of travel accommodations in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado when doing motorcycle trips. Your cabin, while being somewhat similar to others we've stayed in, was the very best outfitted we've ever stayed in. It was really nice and relaxing.'

The cabin is located close to many outdoor activities including the Virginia Creeper trail, the Appalachian trail and Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area. The New River is nearby for canoeing, kayaking and tubing. There are also numerous wineries within a 2 hour drive and a local microbrewery in West Jefferson. We are about 20 minutes from West Jefferson which is a quaint mountain town with art galleries, shopping and restaurants. Most of our renters find there is plenty to do right here and enjoy the peace and quiet of country living. Even during the winter the cabins stay booked as people enjoy the peace and serenity, curled up in front of the wooden stove with a good book or movie.

About Sally Thiel

Joe and I are second career farmers and landowners. We were looking for a few acres with a log cabin for a retirement home and ended up with 61 acres and a farmhouse. We didn't really plan what we would do but stumbled into organic farming, we now farm about 5 acres and love it. We also decided to build a rental cabin to allow others to enjoy our beautiful land and lifestyle. We have met many wonderful people farming, fly fishing in the creek and renting our cabin. Come visit us!

Sally Thiel purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Sally Thiel chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose to put a vacation rental on the farm to allow others to enjoy the serenity of country living. We get a lot of couples who need time to themselves, as well as honeymooners and those celebrating anniversaries. In the summer time we have lots of families who love the freedom of outdoor living.

What makes this cabin unique

We are a bed and breakfast without breakfast. We are available to provide tips on what to do and see and there are always plenty of great vegetables to prepare while you are here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Charming Solitude

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very charming and is located at the steep Hill behind the owners farm. Woods surround the cabin, which gave us plenty of privacy and much needed solitude. We brought our dog with us and spent a great amount of time on the back deck which is enclosed on all sides. Callie, our dog enjoyed that very much! There is a walking Trail that goes into the woods which we also enjoyed. Across the street from the owners farm is Heltin Creek, which is 8 miles long and is stocked with trout regularly. If you like to walk and/or fish and are looking for some quiet time, I highly recommend this cabin. The owners are a wonderful hosts and any issue that we had was taken care of immediately.

My fiancé and I stayed here for two nights for a weekend getaway. We had an amazing time!! The cabin was very clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and we loved the hot tub! We grilled out steaks Friday and made elk chili Saturday night. The space heaters and wood burning stove provided more than enough heat all weekend. We were so sad to leave Sunday and can't wait to go back!!!

Note to future guests: bring your own oil, coffee, pepper, aluminum foil, measuring cups, and ziploc bags for cooking if interested. Other than those items, we had EVERYTHING we needed! The place is extremely well stocked, has trash bags, paper towels, TP, towels, plates, glasses, cooking utensils, washer dryer, etc. So awesome!!!

Yes! Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

You will NOT regret staying here if you're looking for a peaceful, quiet, serene environment. Had all modern amenities to make stay comfortable. With added Jaqcuzi for fun! Very comfortable and cozy. Everything you'd need for enjoying the mountains! Beautiful scenery, creek, farm land, fields and forest. Short ride to Grayson Highlands Park and The Virginia Creeper trail. We chose to stay around the cabin, taking our chairs, books and snacks down to the creek every day and enjoying the pure bliss of just us and the river. Deep bough to have a little dip/swim and shallow enough to put your chair in and dip your feet. Beautiful trees and wildlife, birds, butterflies and more. We plan on returning frequently. Pure bliss! Go! You won't regret it. Lots to do around the area also of you want to venture out for the day.

Peat and Repeat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Zydeco Moon cabins and we love it there. We took 3 other couples and rented out both cabins for the wknd. Well appointed cabins, everything you could need plus quiet locale for reading and napping, beautiful hiking and great fly fishing on Helton Creek (boarding the property). Sally and Joe are great hosts, attentive to our needs/requests, and with their organic farm, fresh produce to add to daily meals we were cooking. Looking forward to our next trip!!

Amazing Easter Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you both so much for an amazing 3 day weekend at your farm (a family of 4, children 14 and 9). We felt right at home with your warm welcome! Our children loved wandering along the mountain top, playing on the creek, and watching folks fish. The cabin had everything we needed, including the hot tub after hiking at Grayson Mountain- amazing trails- and after the VA Creeper Trail, on the next day. My husband and I loved the views. We can't wait to come back!
