About the property

Magical West Shore: Family Home with excellent reviews, GREAT RATES

ENJOY SPECTACULAR VIEWS of Lake Tahoe and the beautiful High Sierras mountain range. Relax all day on the white sand beach of MEEKS BAY BEACH AND RESORT: safe, calm swimming in the crystal clear waters of blue, blue Tahoe (open late spring to fall) Beautiful hikes nearby house, bicycle path all the way to Tahoe City!

**see below on how to read all of our excellent reviews**

**Please read INTERNET disclaimer below: item #22**

Get away from the crowds and enjoy the amazing cobalt blue lake and the special spectacular west shore. The West Shore is the best shore.

Come and relax at our 4 bedroom two bath home with gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe. Our house is your house, perfect for your family and friends to spend time together! We have an open kitchen and living room area with two large decks overlooking the lake. The layout makes for a great place to relax with your whole family. (We are NOT a party house if you are looking for a big bash place) We have soft, quiet wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the home; comfortable beds (new king and queen beds!) all with down comforters and soft cotton sheets.

LOCATION: Our house is in a quiet residential neighborhood (where some residents live year-round) We are near the entrance to Meeks Bay Beach and Resort, open to public. We are above Emerald Bay Road/89, which is the only road that wraps around the entire lake. It hugs the shore of Lake Tahoe all the way around. Most all of the homes here that are within walking distance of the lake and have a close view do experience some road noise from Emerald Bay Road due to the close proximity to the lake.

In the warm seasons, you can walk to the best white sand beach on the lake and in winter ski/snowboard at nearby resorts. Very close to paved bicycle/walking/jogging trail that goes all the way to Tahoe City. Near Sugar Pine Point state park and the entrance to Desolation wilderness trail. In winter enjoy amazing snowy views and nearby ski and sledding areas.

We always wish we could stay longer. This is truly a home you can settle into. We sure have...our father built the cabin in 1977 and it has been in our family ever since. We rent only to help us with maintenance and upkeep costs. We love our family cabin.

Are you wondering about how to find additional reviews of our place???

OUR GUESTBOOK REVIEWS here in this website are copied verbatim directly from our guestbook at the cabin. The HomeAway website recently changed procedures and does not post an owner's submitted guestbook reviews in the "reviews" or "review count" section anymore. :(

We have over 20 ALL-EXCELLENT REVIEWS for years in our cabin guestbook.

HOW TO READ THEM: Scroll down on this main HomeAway page about our home go to the little box that says "Monica"

We want you to know before you book that our housing region doesn't have any fast, powerful wireless provider available that enables you to do important work i.e. web live conferences/meetings etc.

No streaming of movies etc. This will cause excessive data usage, at a high cost, which will be deducted from the renter's security deposit. Again, staying connected via your email accounts is usually fine (provided there is no weather disruption).

About Monica

Our cabin has been in the family for years! My dad, Bill, bought the lot, which sits up on a hillside near beautiful Meeks Bay, in the mid-seventies after spending about 30 years vacationing every summer on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. He completed the cabin construction in 1977 and it has been in the family ever since.

Staying at the cabin will feel like home because it is a home. We want you to feel like it is your place to go to for relaxation and enjoyment of the spectacular Tahoe region.

We all try to go as much possible to enjoy all the seasons on the magical west shore. We rent out the cabin to help with the ownership costs. I work in higher education and my husband is semi-retired. We raised two boys lucky enough to have many great childhood times at the cabin thanks to Grandpa Bill. They are both grown up now! Our house is your house!

Monica purchased this house in 1977

Why Monica chose Tahoma

if you want the feel of a real home, and not a hotel, cookie cutter condo, or a cold, sleek rental-only house, this IS the place for you. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. If you are looking for a non-party, no-late-night-noise area, you have found it. Top that off with the spectacular lake view that is everywhere, a great walk down to the white sand beach at Meeks Bay, and you have your ideal vacation.

What makes this house unique

You will love the view, which is inescapable from almost every room.

The majestic mountains are right there also, with Rubicon Peak looming up right outside off in the distance. Watch the weather changes over the entire lake from our cozy couch, or sitting on our decks. Walk from our neighborhood over to the paved trail that runs from our area all the way to Tahoe City!! Great for walks or bike rides.

Meeks Bay beach is one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Tahoe. It is minutes from the cabin. Too busy hiking to go to beach today? In the late afternoon, enjoy a quick dip, your happy hour, and/or just quiet time down on the beach. (beach chairs provided) It is most beautiful early morning/late afternoon. Just you and the wild Canadian geese!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much!!! WE had such a great time at your house. We really enjoyed the view!! It was very beautiful when the moon shown over the water. We went to the fire sign cafe one morning for breakfast. It was so good one afternoon we went down to Meeks bay and rented a paddle board. That was lots of fun. It was fun when all three of us girls went on together… Not so fun when we tipped over!!!We went on many beautiful hikes to bliss, eagles fall, and Vikings. There was a rainbow over the water. While it rained we drove to Tahoe city and walked to get ice cream!! It was fun!!! Thanks again!!!

Fantastic view and warm feeling to home

  • 5 of 5

We just stayed at this Tahoma property and the view is absolutely amazing! The home is clean and has a warm feeling to it. The gas insert fireplace was very cozy and since we were there during the first snows of the year, we were impressed at how well and how fast the heaters warmed the home. We could feel that the owners love this home and take great care of it. We could feel the love :) The property is near some short beautiful hiking trails too. We plan to go back during the summer as it seemed like there would be a lot to do during that time of year.

Gotta love the awesome views, coupled with comfort!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay here and hated to leave. We just had the best time soaking up the view of the lake from top floor or below and it was all comfortable. We slept downstairs with the curtains open so we could see daybreak and at first light we jumped into clothes and drove the short distance to Emerald Bay for sunrise pics. Mission accomplished, back to the cabin for breakfast. We ate Sunnyside and loved it. I chose this place specifically because of the view it offered. I wanted to be able to see the lake without having to go out and it delivered perfectly, at a great value. No it did not have granite countertops, but who cares! The granite is all around you as you walk the mountains, so if you find yourself needing a granite fix, just take a walk.

Perfect place to experience a summer in Tahoe!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Cranston's. The house was exactly what we needed and the location can't be beat. We walked the kids down to the beach daily and easily took a drive over to Homestead, Tahoe City and Emerald Bay. The house was well equipped with everything you could possibly want. They do a wonderful job of making sure that you have a pretty well stocked kitchen, so minus bringing your own produce, meats, etc., we were able to make lots of yummy meals at the house. I would highly recommend staying here!

PS - Check in and check out were super smooth. Thanks again!

THINGS TO CONSIDER: In the Lake Tahoe basin, Emerald Bay Rd/Hwy 89 was built long ago and is the only road around the lake. It hugs the shore of the lake all the way around. Most all homes that are close to the lake shore where you can walk to the lake, such as our home, are near this road so there will be road noise heard. If you want total quiet, look for a house back away from the lake in the forest.

Also note that the Tahoe basin is a wilderness area which has many types of naturally occurring critters such as aerator ground ants, squirrels, raccoons, the occasional bear, and much more. This is part of the natural environment. The neighborhood is relatively small and quiet. Inside the house is very peaceful and comfortable. The area surrounding the cabin is forested and beautiful. We look out over all of Lake Tahoe and Meeks Bay Beach and Resort, which has paddle boats, kayaks, power boats, swimming, snack bar and more. You can walk down our pathway next to the house that leads you down the hill and across the road to the best white sand beach in Tahoe.... at Meeks Bay. In the summer months you will probably spend your entire day down at Meeks beach!! Walk down with your early morning coffee and a chair. The best place in the world to 'wake up' !

It is especially wonderful sitting on the beach right at the water's edge in the late afternoon/early evening, have your own 'happy hour' with snacks and beverages.

There is a volleyball net up at Meeks all summer that is a great attraction for kids and adults also.

Nearby is an excellent paved bicycle/walking path that runs all the way to Tahoe City. Skiing is nearby too at Homewood resort. We are two miles from Tahoma, a tiny village with a small grocery and restaurant.

Less than a mile from the house is the start of the Desolation Trail which leads you into a spectacular wilderness area for walks and hikes.
