Quintana Roo Villa Rental Photos and Description

30 steps to the Sea ~ 20 minutes to town ~ Private Delight

Have you ever dreamed of living in your very own sand-castle by the sea? If so, we have the perfect place for you! The majestic Casa Playa Maya is a stunning 3 bedroom 3 bathroom Villa, located at arguably the best Caribbean beach in all of Costa Maya, Puerto Angel. It's inticing castle-like facade grows out of the alabaster sand as the soothing waves, Caribbean waters and coconut palms complete the scene to help make this dramatic Beach Home an ideal vacation destination.

Tall glass doors line the entire beach side of this home on the ground floor, allowing you to step out onto your tiled terrace from any room, with an ringside view of the lapping waves and turquoise water. The main level features a fully equipped Spacious Kitchen, complete with a full sized refridgerator/freezer, oven, stove, several small appliances, walk-in pantry, tiled countertop which seats three leading to the Dining Room, with seating for six. The beautifuly variegated hardwood table and chairs were locally handcrafted and not only serve as a perfect dining station, but they also create a wonderful place for playing cards, dominos or board games which we have provided for your enjoyment.

An adjacent Great Room with a vaulted ceiling and large upper windows give an atrium-like ambiance and offers panoramic views up and down the Caribbean Coastline from anywhere in the room. Locally made 'contemporary mission style' furniture provides comfortable seating for your entire group and the oversized sofa makes a great place for a breezy indoor sea-side 'siesta'.

Around the corner, the downstairs King Bedrooms' sliding glass doors open to a beach view that seems to invite the outside in, making it feel as though you are actually sleeping on the beach! Your walk-in closet has plenty of hanging, drawer & shelf space and includes a personal safe. The attatched Spacious Bathroom is beautifully decorated with traditional Mexican 'talavera' tiles.

Down the hallway, a sizable tile-shelved Laundry Room provides not only storage for an array of beach toys, masks, floats and more, it also becomes an ideal spot for hanging your bathing suits, wet suits, snorkel gear & beach towels to dry. It also serves as your Recycling Center and 2 generous Hall Closets house additional comforts such as extra linens, towels & bedding, books & games, plastic patio table & chairs for 6+, fishing equiptment, portable playpen, air mattresses & more.

The Villa was designed to allow the Sea Breezes to freely flow throughout the entire home, providing your haven with a light, fresh and airy feel. On the rare occasions that the air seems still, ceiling fans throughout the Casa will help to keep you comfortable, even in this tropical climate.

Head up the centrally located staircase to find the TV Lounge area which overlooks the Great Room and has exquisite views of the beach. A duplicate set of the Mayan-made sofa, love-seat, chair & tables make this common area the perfect place for watching movies, playing games, reading a good book or even streaming free online television from your personal HDMI laptop computer. Besides our DVD Library, we also have SKY TV with many channels in English & in Spanish. This room can also be used as an additional Sleeping Area with air beds and is especially fun for kids.

Leading off on either side of the lounge, you will find a king-sized Master Bedroom Suite with a large closet which has built in drawers, shelves & plenty of hanging space. Each Bedroom has it’s own brightly tiled 3/4 Bathroom on the west end of the room & to the east, sliding doors face the Caribbean Sea leading you out onto your very own Covered Balcony, a perfect place to wake up with your favorite cup of coffee or tea and a sweet spot to catch a memorable moonbeam or shooting star show before turning in after a day of fun in the sun!

Another favorite place to be in this fabulous Beach Home is on the Rooftop! Accessible from the Upper Lounge, ascend the 'caracol' staircase to a breathtaking delight. Stretch out onto comfy cushions topping the built-in concrete sofas under the dappled shade of the Lanai in this Outdoor Living Area offering privacy, amazing breezes and incredible bird watching. This wonderfully serene space also makes a great place for practicing Yoga, Tai Chi and Meditation, as well as affording sun-seekers the opportunity to even out their tan lines in peace. From this picturesque perch, expect sublime Sunrise Vistas of the Caribbean Coastline boasting birdseye views of the world famous Mesoamerican Reef to the east, not to be topped by the gorgeous landscapes and Peaceful Sunsets over the mystical Mayan Jungle to the west.

This Eco-Friendly Home is completely Off Grid so it enjoys the use of Solar Power with a back up propane fueled generator, propane also fuels the stove & hot water tank. Casa Playa Maya's water is collected in an Underground Cistern and is replenished with rain water. For these reasons, we ask that our guests be mindful of the situation by turning off ceiling fans & lights when leaving a room, unplugging your laptop computer & cell phones from the wall socket when fully charged and basically utilizing any & all opportunities to Conserve Water & Power, whenever possible. Our Solar System is very efficient and has proven to be more than adequate for most scenarios, however there may be times when overcast conditions deem it necessary to utilize the generator to charge the batteries. Don't worry, shifting into 'Eco-Mode' is not really hard at all & we are happy to provide you with helpful hints and tips to become Super [Solar] Empowered, if you would like!

Many visitors here enjoy the calm that comes with the soft glow of candlelight while dining and relaxing with our low~lighting options after the sun goes down, but knowing you have a system that can handle watching TV, playing on your computer and utilizing the ceiling fans well after dark, is always a comfort. We do ask that you leave your hair dryers, curling irons & anything with a heating element *at home*!

While relaxing at your Villa, you'll enjoy a very private untouched and Natural Beach where you can experience amazing Brain Corals & encounter spectacular Sea-Life when snorkeling & fishing right off the shore. Swimming here in Puerto Angel is truly a pleasure with our clean and Sandy Sea Floor, free of turtle grass & rocks.

Although the Sargassum sea grass that the Caribbean has been experiencing makes it a bit more challenging these days, feel free to take a stroll heading south towards Xcalak. You could walk the beach for miles, perhaps never even crossing paths with another person. The first house that you will encounter is .5 km away. Be sure to carry a bag along, so that you will have a place to put all of the wonderful gifts that 'El Caribe' has to offer you! This area is known for it's wide variety of 'Sea-Beans' that are found washed up on the shore among the wrack. These Mayan Amulets of Love, Clarity and Good Fortune are sure to be treasured long after your adventure has come to a close.

Traveling in the other direction, gets slightly more populated as you head towards town. The closest house is two lots away and as you venture further up the beach, you may encounter a bit more activity with locals as well as other happy adventurers. You will find a smattering of Restaurants, the first one being only a 5 minute walk, that become more abundant the closer you get to Mahahual.

We are thrilled to be able to offer this amazing Villa with a 1, 2 or 3 Bedroom option. The entire home is rented to you and your party only. You will have all of the main areas in and around the home which include the Kitchen, Dining Room, main level Great Room, Laundry Room, 2 Hall Closets, 2nd floor TV Lounge, the entire Rooftop and the Tiled Terrace from all your rooms out to the Sea! In addition to all of the aforementioned, you will simply choose either 1, 2 or 3 Bedrooms [all with their own ¾ Bath], as your party requires. The floor plan of this home makes it very easy to accommodate your specific needs without disrupting the flow of it's design.

With the 3 Bedroom selection, all of Casa Playa Maya is included as described and this is also our Handicapped and Wheelchair Accessability option, so please email us with your specific needs and we will see if we are able to accommodate you. If you find that your party only needs a 2BR/2BA, you would be renting both of the Bedrooms on the second floor and just to clarify, that would be the entire house, minus the downstairs Bedroom/Bathroom combo at the south end of the hall. If your party only needs 1 Bedroom, you'll enjoy your sweet dreams in the upstairs-north Boudoir and the two closed doors on the south walls of the house, one upstairs and one down, will not effect the natural traffic flow of your Private Beach Home.

We would love to share with you this very special part of the world that is 'Costa Maya'. We are a 100km stretch of beautiful untouched Caribbean Beaches, south of the Mayan Riviera and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve with Belize at our southern border and the little fishing village of Mahahual right in the middle. Come and enjoy a very relaxed way of life from another place and time.

We understand how precious every minute of your vacation time is and we want to help you customize your trip so that your time spent here in Costa Maya is everything that you've dreamed of and more! Let us know the things that you are interested in & we will be happy to provide you with any information that we have that may assist you in planning your adventure of a lifetime!

We appreciate your time and interest in Casa Playa Maya and if you have any questions, would like more information or would like to book your Dream Vacation, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you soon! Until then...

About Amanda & Richard

We are Amanda & Richard {aka 'zen' & 'honey'}, the managers here at Casa Playa Maya. We are both originally from Ohio and had been living in Atlanta, GA for many years before recently moving to Costa Maya full time. When living in the US, I had been working in the Film Industry for 20+ years & Richard worked as a Teacher, Printer, Painter, Writer & had his own Home Repair Company for 40+ years. One day, we realized that we were both so busy all of the time, that we could barely find a moment to talk to each other. We decided to shift gears & to make an effort to slow down a bit. We traded in our stress~filled 70 hour work weeks complete with big fat paychecks, to realize a simpler way of life on a beans & rice budget. We are *extremely grateful* to have the opportunity to share this amazing 60-mile stretch of untouched Caribbean Coastline with you. Very few travelers have been fortunate enough to experience such a primitive backdrop for their 're-fueling~time'. We invite you to come & share in the beauty & tranquility that we have embraced here in this magical place called 'Costa Maya'.

Amanda & Richard purchased this villa in 2009

Why Amanda & Richard chose Quintana Roo

We feel very fortunate to have been chosen to look after this gorgeous property, here in Puerto Angel. In 2009, we purchased a lot to the north of Mahahual, in Uvero, after years of searching for an affordable spot to call our own here in my Daddy's homeland of Mexico. We were really excited about our little piece of paradise & kept trying to get down here to get to work on our land. Our demanding schedules & the lack of cash~flow kept getting in our way. After owning the lot for 2.5 years, we finally found ourselves with a little cash & a little time on our hands simultaneously & decided to take the opportunity to come down and get some work started. That was in March of 2012. We were prepared to spend a month or two camping~out on our lot, and just a few days after we arrived in Costa Maya, we met a wonderful woman who connected us with the owners of this home, who needed our help. We have always been believers that our thoughts create our world & we decided to take it as a sign from the universe that this is where we were meant to be. All that we had was a few pesos, a bit of talent in redecorating & repairs & a strong work ethic. Without really knowing what may come of it all, we got busy cleaning, painting, sewing & preparing the home for the time that we would get to meet the owners face to face. We are very grateful for their generosity & trust & the fact that they have allowed us to open their home to lovely adventurous travelers, such as yourselves! Please come & see first hand why we have fallen head~over~heels in LOVE with the best kept secret in all of Mexico!

What makes this villa unique

Third Year and Planning on a Fourth!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third time staying at CPM (see my previous review "Magical Mystery Tour"). Every year this place gets better!

This year, we had our son and his GF join us and the house was perfect for the four of us. Lots of room for everyone.... We spent lazy mornings strolling on the now sargassum free beach, with coffee cup in hand. Over the course of eight days, we saw all of two people on our morning walks. You will not see more beautiful sunrises anywhere. Spectacular and different each day.

After our beach stroll and breakfast under the palapa, , we donned our snorkel gear for absolutely fantastic snorkeling right in front of the house in crystal clear water... turtles, spotted eagle rays, a school of beautiful and harmless nurse sharks, hundreds of blue tang, plus all of the rest of the typical reef fish in this part of the world. Stunning.

During the afternoons, we all just chilled and enjoyed hanging out and swimming and doing some more snorkeling.

We made dinner most nights in the extremely well equipped kitchen....We enjoy cooking and we never lacked for any type of equipment.

Outings were a blast... We spent a lazy day eating, swimming, and kayaking at Lake Bacalaar. At Kohunlich, we spent over an hour watching a very obliging family of about ten monkeys swinging from tree to tree while the green parrots flew above, piercing the silence by squawking up a storm. We were the only people there, so this was truly a special experience. We made some fun, quick trips into the pueblo when there were no cruise ships in. We had the best ceviche of the trip at Nohoch Kay, our favorite restaurant in town.

The house is in fantastic condition. Spotlessly clean. Everything was in working order and we never had issues with the power system. Richard and Amanda remain the most amazing hosts you could possibly ask for. Not only are they fabulous hosts, and truly nice people, but they will go out of their way to accommodate you in any way they can. We had the pleasure of enjoying the bounty of Chef Richard's kitchen several times (his ravioli are to die for) and really appreciated the welcome meal that was made for us. Delicious. He is an awesome chef and his food is not to be missed.

As I said in my previous review, we have been all over the Caribbean and this was our seventh (maybe eighth?) trip to Mexico. Since we found CPM, we've looked no further...Why bother when you've found Paradise? Planning for next year already!

CPM

  • 5 of 5

we had a wonderful time at CPM. The house was just as we expected and the beach was better. we had no insects and no sea grass. the swimming was great with only a little trash. the house was comfortable and fully functional except for the clothes washer which didn't work but that was fine. location is great, not too far down the beach road. i think we saw one person walking on the beach the whole week we were there. and the drive from Cancun was much easier than I planned. we also thought we found all the groceries we needed in Majahual, except coffee.

We just returned from our stay at Casa Playa Maya - there were four of us in our party. It was our first time staying that far south. We loved the seclusion and privacy of the property. We snorkeled ,swam and fished right off the beach! It was fabulous! Richard and Amanda had us over for a amazing 5 course dinner that was just delicious. They went out of their way to answer all our questions about the area and gave us great tips. We loved being able to walk such a short distance down the beach to the Italian rest. and had great meals there as well. Such a relaxing, beautiful space! Thank you for a great experience!

Casa Maya Playa Is A Hidden Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Casa Playa Maya for a 50th Birthday/family getaway vacation. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The house is located on a very secluded part of the beach, which gave us the feeling that it was our own private paradise. The house is absolutely beautiful. It is amazing to me that such a beautiful home could also be so Eco-friendly (which is very important to me and my husband). The beach is steps away from our patio door! It is has all of the comforts of home available to us at our disposal. Amanda and Honey were the perfect hosts. They provided us with a beautiful gourmet meal when we arrived to the property. They always had wonderful suggestions on how we could explore our surroundings and see the nearby sights. They were also wonderful teachers of the local Mayan culture, which is still alive within the people of the area. (We really enjoyed visiting the Mayan Temple Ruins in nearby Chacchoben.) Our stay at Casa Playa Maya was everything that we could hope for, and much more! We will definitely return to Casa Playa Maya in the future.

Fun group getaway

  • 5 of 5

CPM may not be for the all inclusive set, but it was a perfect getaway for our group of 6! We like to be off the beaten path to better find adventure and fun...and we sure did! The beach was beautiful and we found some of the best snorkeling that we've seen in a long time right off shore. We saw LOTS of reef fish, nice/healthy coral in a great variety, a turtle, lobster, starfish, and managed to catch a barracuda too (we bring our fishing rods). Exploring the beach road toward the fishing village we saw many bird species, large iguanas, fox, and another sort of wild canine that we aren't sure of (not a perro!) We fly fished and caught a huge Permit, and had a ball with the little fish too. Amanda and Richard were full of great advice, very kind, and boy can Richard cook! We also checked out town and found the locals great to talk to (with our tiny bit of Spanish), excellent Restaurants, but avoided cruise days if possible. We have stayed at (and enjoyed) eco houses before and had no problems staying within electric usage; some days the showers weren't real warm, but didn't bother any of us. We cooked at home a lot and no issues with stove or grill, worked perfectly. If we decided to return to MX on a future trip, CPM would be at the top of the list!

Located just 14km south of the Mayan fishing village & Mexico's favorite cruise ship destination of Mahahual, Casa Playa Maya offers you the best of both worlds.

While in Puerto Angel, you'll have a very private alabaster beach shared only with an occasional passerby. Enjoy your spectacular villa with many conveniences of home, in an idyllic off-grid environment that very few travelers have ever had the pleasure of seeing.~~~~On the other hand, when you are ready for a more social & diverse atmosphere, a 40 minute scenic ride up the beach road or a 20 minute paved rode drive into the town of Mahahual, will provide you with a wide variety of delectable delights from this region and around the globe. The heavy Mayan influence here in this southernmost tip of Quintana Roo is peppered with a range of settlers from all over the world, which provides for a colorful stroll of sights, sounds & smells on Mahahual's beach walkway, the Malecon.~~~~On days when cruise ships are visiting, the entire town springs to life. Dune buggys, ATVs, golf carts and bicycles are available for rent and you can enjoy restaurant & bar hopping up and down the beach before you trade-in that afternoon 'siesta' for a beach massage, and just relax! From here, many fishing, snorkeling & diving excursions are available as well as SU paddleboarding, jet skis, banana boats, henna tatoos and more.~~~~Mahahual will settle back into a mellow pace by late afternoon as the “cruisers” head back to their ships and twilight casts a new face upon the bustling town of just a moment ago. As you encounter our locals and other adventurous travelers like yourselves, you may find yourself sipping a fabulous fruity beverage, prepared especially for you by Evan or Ana, while swinging beside the next Ernest Hemingway at the “Nacional Beach Club” bar. From there, a few steps south could have you dining at Jaime's “Nohoch Kay” {Mayan for “Big Fish”} savoring some of Costa Maya's best freshly caught fish prepared to perfection. Back towards the Pier, pop in for a chat & dessert with Steve & Maggie at “Tropicante” right on the beach, before hitting Carolyn's “La Bodeguita de Mahahual” for a game of pool & a nightcap, just around the corner.~~~~For those who love to cook and utilize the fully loaded kitchen back at your Casa, both Mahahual and The Casitas have wonderful grocery shopping in the quaint and humble “tienditas” stocked with many locally grown herbs, fruits, vegetables & meats. “Mini Super Bere” offers our gourmet selections & for everything else [including handmade tortillas], “Tortillaria Noe” is the place! Freshly caught fish can be purchased daily and you will find sundries & your “Farmacia” needs in several locations. While in The Casitas, experience an authentic Italian Pizza made in the wood~burning oven @ “Papi's” & some Pork Pibil [to-go] for tomorrows’ lunch, from Irving & Ana's “Padrino”.~~~~The 2nd largest barrier reef system on our planet, the Mesoamerican Reef, stretches over 1000 km from Isla Contoy at the northern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula down to the Bay Islands of Honduras, and it protects all of Costa Maya as well as the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, our northern border. This area is known for it's world-class diving and the famous atoll reef, Banco Chinchorro, is a mere 2 hours away and is a magical and special treat for divers and snorkelers alike.~~~~Lake Bacalar and Cenote Azul are just 1.5 hours away and are not to be missed. The BioMaya Zipline tour is nearby and guided kayak/canoe trips, bicycle tours and jungle walks to explore the beautiful lake and its surroundings are also available.~~~~The Mayan ruins within 1-2 hours away that are well worth visiting are Chacchoben, Dzibanché and Kohunlich. They're not too crowded and the jungle surroundings are absolutely magnificent. Whether you like to explore on your own, or you choose to have a guided tour, you are sure to make memories for a lifetime.~~~~Chetumal, the capitol city of Quintana Roo, is 2 hours away and is filled with rich Mayan culture. It is Mahahuals' 'big city' for all of the supplies that are not found here in our sleepy little 'pueblo'. The markets and museums on Av. Heroes, are a great place for traditional souveniers at an affordable price. If that is not enough, you can always pop into Belizes' 'Zona Libre' for a wide array of duty-free delights in over 300 stores & try your luck in any one of the three casinos. No documents or passports needed as you will not go through Belize immigration, but we suggest that you take them with you anyways just be safe.~~~~We understand how precious every minute of your vacation time is and we want to help you customize your trip so that your time spend here in Costa Maya is everything that you've dreamed of and more! Let us know the things that you are interested in & we will be happy to provide you with any information that we have that may assist you in planning your adventure of a lifetime!
