Our cottage is located in the beautiful, tree lined neighborhood of North Berkeley. Ours is a bright and sunny detached studio, in-law furnished with all the amenities you need including high speed wi-fi, Apple TV, which has subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, PBS and others plus and a Blue-Ray player with an HD flat screen TV.
A separate entrance through the native plant garden allows you privacy as you come and go.
We are also perfectly located near either bustling Solano Avenue or the delectable Gourmet Ghetto. You can take a leisurely walk to both neighborhoods where you will find too many restaurants, pubs, cafe's, boutiques, bookstores, movie theatres and world class restaurants (like Alice Water's Chez Panisse), to list.
SOLANO AVENUE – Solano Ave., located just one block over from the house, is the highlight of North Berkeley. You’ll find a diverse array of restaurants to choose from, bars, an old fashioned Pub, a wonderful independent bookstore, a movie theatre, spas, and boutique shops. You can read more about it here http://www.solanoavenueassn.org/saa_directory/directory.html.
We are in a true neighborhood with all the local services you could hope for. About 100 yds. from the house you’ll find Safeway Community Market. Here you’ll discover all the freshest ingredients. Would you like some wine with your beautifully cooked meal? Visit Solano Cellars, our local wine merchant, located nearby.
Need your morning caffeine fix? Stroll over to Peet’s Coffee & Tea (also locally founded) ; open early every day.
Forget to pack some essential toiletries? Either Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy or Whole Health Apothecary will have what you’re missing and more.
Two ½ blocks away is the North Berkeley branch of our public library system. It’s in a beautiful historic building that has been recently renovated. If you want to rent videos, there’s a, independently owned video store, just around the corner on Solano Ave.
GOURMET GHETTO – If you’ve ever heard of the world famous Chez Panisse then you’ll find it in Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto. Take a Culinary Walking Tour or experience the food truck phenomenon at Berkeley’s Off The Grid
A hike through Tilden Regional Park is a fantastic way to experience nature. It has something for everyone….the sportsman, the nature enthusiast, kids and families.
Visiting friends or family associated with UC Berkeley? We are located just two miles from campus with easy access to public transportation via AC Transit.
Want to travel farther afield? We are just over a mile (a 15 – 20 mile walk) from the North Berkeley BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit). From here you can shoot right into San Francisco or points beyond. If you’re returning late at night, there is always a line of taxis just outside the station.
