New York Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Private Lakefront, Sleeps 4, 2 bedroom,, Kayaks, Canoe, Snowshoes

Romantic Cabin in the Woods, on the Water, with Ultimate Privacy. There are no neighbors, you are sharing this amazing location with the wildlife and an occasional canoe gliding by. Beautiful views any time of the year.

Cabin Life Magazine has a 6 page feature about this cabin in Feb 2015 issue!

Last summer availability is Aug 4-8 (4 night minimum) and Aug 19-22 (3 night minimum). More available in September.

The house sits right over the lake with 500 feet of private waterfront, a dock and boathouse. The oversized windows capture the beauty of the natural surroundings, the views are stunning, even at night! We turn on the fire, turn off the lights, and enjoy the reflection of the moon off the lake...just beautiful. The sight of the fog lifting in the early AM is worth the early rise.

Sleeps up to 4, but this is the perfect romantic spot for two. Great year round destination for couch potatoes and adventurers alike. No need to leave the comfort of the sofa to experience the beauty of the local wilderness, and those who do venture out have plenty of hiking, kayaking, exploring, skiing, snowshoe and snowmobile opportunities. We supply local guide books and restaurant recommendations.

Inside cathedral ceilings create an open, airy main room with kitchen, dining and living area with gas fireplace. There are 2 bedrooms, one with queen bed, one with a double. A separate TV room for watching movies, reading or enjoying that mid afternoon nap. Great lake views from this sweet little room as well.

We have one bath (shower only), sweet outdoor shower in warmer months, indoor propane fireplace, outdoor firepit, fully stocked kitchen, weber grill, wifi, 40' flat screen for DVD movies and Netflix (but no cable), land line phone (no cell service here!), Sonos Stereo system with indoor and outdoor speakers to enjoy music while grilling or chilling.

Need to work while here? We have a desk right up against the window so you can write that novel or email your client while observing the wildlife on the lake.

Comes with 4 very nice kayaks and one 2 person canoe, lake floats and adult life preservers. Our Lakefront Boathouse provides very easy access to the lake, no need to carry them anywhere. Watercraft available May 15-Nov 1 only.

This is a kayak haven for both beginners and the more experienced. Kayak 10 minutes to the right, you are on stunningly beautiful Piseco Lake. Kayak 30 minutes to the left (for the experienced kayaker only) to the more remote wilderness of Big Bay Lake. Lots of natural wild shoreline and wildlife to explore right out your front door. Most of our waterfront is too shallow to swim, except for one deep swimming hole. We kayak to the lake and enjoy the clear water and sandy bottom of Piseco Lake for a swim.

This cabin is like living inside a snow globe in the winter...there are so many windows you are simply surrounded by the snowfall, it's a beautiful sight! A unique feature is that the slightly moving water out front does not freeze, so there are water views and wildlife sightings year round. Very special spot.

Many hiking, snowshoeing and x-country ski adventures to be found locally. Great fishing. There is a small downhill ski mountain, Oak Mt., next town over. Gore ski mountain is a 50 minute drive. Cross country trails nearby. We supply 2 sets of adult snowshoes and one child pair.

This is snowmobile country - hundreds of miles of groomed trails through the woods and across the many lakes. Stop in to a local pub for lunch and a beer, and head out to the next lake. Local rentals, lessons and guides available.

But our favorite activity in winter is sitting by the fire with a hot cocoa and observing the wilderness and the ever changing weather from the comfort of the sofa :)

An all wheel drive vehicle is necessary to navigate our snowy dirt driveway in winter. It is plowed regularly but can be tricky in icy weather. The other option is to leave your car at the end of the driveway and walk in (rarely necessary).

We are surrounded by woods, lake and rivers - so a snowshoe hike right from the front door will take you through very pretty snow covered forest and striking river front spots.

This is a no parties, no smoking, NO PETS (sorry!), allergy sensitive household. Due to our close proximity to the water, we have limited well and septic capacity. As a result, we can have no more than 4 persons here at any time, so this is not the place for family reunions or for entertaining.

We do our best to keep a pristine home, we are sure even the most discerning guests will be very happy here.

This is a very private, secluded property, however it is not remote. It is easy to get to, we are down a private 200ft dirt driveway directly off Rt 8.

What's to LOVE? Just about everything listed above.

What might you NOT love? There is a small bridge nearby that separates the outlet (where we are) from Piseco Lake, and you can hear the cars going over the bridge when outside on the property (but not while inside), which is the only thing we wish was different.

Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here. Guests who choose to stay here must agree to take them home if they bring a lot in. Leaving a few is fine, but must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. She simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is like camping - if you bring it in, you must be willing to take it out.

This is a great home for self reliant, independent travelers looking for very comfortable, private and pristine accommodations in a unique and special spot to get away from it all. Piseco and the surrounding area are beautiful, but have limited entertainment venues other than nature hikes, mountains, wildlife, lakes and rivers.

We have recently added a (very expensive!) generator to the property. So, in the event of (infrequent but they do happen!) power outage, guests should not lose any amenities (lights, heat, phone, internet).

PAYMENTS: 50% to reserve, 50% due 35 days prior to arrival, payment by check or cc (plus 3.5%). We accept HomeAway payments for last minute reservations only (within a month of arrival). Please note that HomeAway does charge a fee to guests (and to us) for HomeAway payments.

About Maura

David and Maura spend lots of time in the Adirondacks year round. We swim, flat water and white water kayak, paddle board, hike, downhill ski, cross country, snowmobile and simply chill up here.

Maura has a family camp nearby, has been coming to this area forever. We live and work in NYC, it's a 4 hour drive, just put in a book on tape, and in no time we are in paradise. Dave and Maura both work for themselves, and are working hard towards an early retirement to the Adirondacks.

Maura purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Maura chose New York

Why this property? It is so very rare to find this kind of privacy on the water, and with such a stunning view! We fell in love the second we saw this location.

We are the third owners. It was a seasonal summer camp since the 40's, using lake water as the water source. The second owners (contractors) started the renovation by securing the foundation, renovating the shell and putting in all those fabulous windows. By keeping the same footprint as the original cabin they were able to keep this amazing waterfront location - it is no longer possible to build this close to the water.

We worked with the previous owners to finish the home - there is a great 6 page article about this cabin and that unusual arrangement in Cabin Life Feb 2015 magazine. We had it winterized, put in a well for water, knotty pine ceilings and walls, wood floors, decorated and opened her doors to our first guests in August 2012.

As far as we are concerned, this is the perfect retirement spot. Until that time, however, we are sharing the house with guests, so far everyone has been just as thrilled as we are!

What makes this cabin unique

Privacy! Views! Open floor plan, immaculately clean and very easy house. It is in a very naturally beautiful and rustic setting, with lots of wildlife. We (or our guests) have seen loons, mergansers, ducks, herons, fox, coyotes, skunk, tons of fish, otter, owl, bald eagles, tons of birds, deer, fawn, a buck, a mama and baby bear!

First person to see and photograph a Moose (note: not a mouse!) from our property gets a free night stay!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Beautiful Place that we Enjoyed Fully. Did lots of kayaking, hiking & fishing. Gorgeous views from inside (and outside) the house, very fun to watch the weather roll in over the water.

Saw evidence of bears, out front there were blue heron, loons, mergansers and deer. In the water we spotted pike, small & large mouth & rock bass, fall fish, yellow perch and sunny. Beautiful drives & exploration off Rt 10.

Thank You!

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this adorable and well-cared for cabin over the July 4th weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was clean and very, very well stocked with gorgeous views giving the illusion you are far away from it all. Really though, you are right off the road and a quick fifteen minute drive into Speculator. There is easy water access for kayaks and the lake is quiet--perfect for kayak outings. We enjoyed the cool evenings sitting outside by the fire pit in the many Adirondack chairs provided. We worried about no AC in summer but that was not an issue at all. Days were very comfortable and nights cool--perfect in fact. The cabin has great windows with screens that allow the breeze to blow in nicely. I can't think of a single thing to complain about--the stay was that nice.

Beautiful and Peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, clean and very well-maintained cabin, which is just as described in this listing. The location is indeed very private and the lake views are awesome. The owner, Maura, was very nice and accommodating whenever we had questions about the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to going back again.

Amazing yet again

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough how much I enjoy staying at this house. It is so peaceful and removed from the busyness of the world. Maura and Dave have thought of everything to make the stay easy, enjoyable and hassle free as much as possible. This is the second time to stay and I look forward to many more times in the future. There is no doubt if you are even thinking of staying here, do it. You will not be disappointed! Thank you for a much needed get away spot!

Our experience at the Piseco Lake cabin was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the picturesque view, cleanliness of the cabin, and overall experience. Every single detail of living was attended to. We are a fairly young couple that just wanted to get away for a bit and spend some quality time together, and we were surprised with much more than we expected. For whomever is reading this review, "RENT THIS BEAUTIFUL CABIN." Seriously. All of our days were spent reading, creating wonderful meals, enjoying fires on the water (in January!), exploring, hiking and making memories. We will be back, for sure...or maybe to another location owned by these amazing owners. Absolutely fantastic.

Beautiful private cabin, property and lake

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a lovely cabin. Clean, well kept with many amenities. Views of the lake were amazing. The snow added to its beauty. Can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the kayaks and fishing. The listing description was right on.

The owners truly care about this property and it's renters. We had a wonderful time!

Port Washington, NY

what a wonderful winter wonderland!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a cozy winter escape, and that's exactly what we got! The cabin is extremely well maintained and the views of the lake are simply stunning. The instructions provided were very thorough and helpful, and the tips on the surrounding area are great as well. We were quite snowed in, so we didn't get to enjoy some of the grounds, but if we were feeling a bit more adventurous it would have been a breeze to grab some snowshoes from the shed and trek off! That said, we were perfectly content to enjoy all the interesting little guides and books throughout the cabin, and the uber-chill TV nook with the comfiest couch in the world. We also cooked for ourselves mostly, and were extremely happy with all the cookware provided.

The nearest town is Speculator, which went into twice for some late morning french press coffee at Timberline Cafe (the food looked excellent here too but we were in the midst of an elimination diet so we just stared longingly, drooling at everyone else's.), bought some sweet and highly-discounted Woolrich flannels at the Speculator Dept Store, and grabbed a nice early dinner at the Melody Lodge (again mostly just ogling other people's food, but they do have a scratch kitchen and one of the chef's was familiar with our diet so she was able to whip up a very delicious compliant meal for us), and we drove south on Rt 30 a bit for the short walk-in-the-woods Auger Falls trail (amazing, saw some bear and coyote tracks though so be watchful!).

Long story short, we would absolutely do this trip again, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice remote retreat. We also can't wait to go back for the warmer months and do some hiking and fishing!

For hundreds of years the Adirondacks has been a destination location. Set in the Southern portion of the 6 million acre Adirondack Park, located in Hamilton County, Piseco is surrounded by beautiful mountains and pristine lakes.

Some of the most picturesque flat water and white water kayaking and canoeing can be found in this region. Waterfalls, stunning hikes with views, white water rafting, fishing and hunting are popular activities. The lakes are not crowded in the least, bring your boat and enjoy water sports.

This area is infamous for it's well maintained snowmobiling trails that go for hundreds of miles, all the way to Canada. Local rentals available.

Cabin is in pristine condition. We take our shoes off inside and prefer that guests do as well to maintain wood floors. This is the perfect place for the discerning is very clean with nicer than average furnishings. We are looking for guests who will appreciate this attention to detail, and treat the house and contents accordingly. Children are welcome, but this may not be an ideal place for toddlers. We have a wild and woolly 500' of natural shoreline outside, and white furnishings inside, you would have to keep a very close eye on them in both places. The best features of the property are the Privacy and the View (stunning year round!). There is a lot of shoreline, but unfortunately most of it is too shallow to swim. There is one deep swimming hole we can direct you to, or kayak 10 minutes to Piseco Lake and enjoy the clear sandy bottom there. Cabin is private but not remote, Rt 8 is near, can't see it but can hear cars from it.
