Romantic Cottage by the Sea, Nestled in Lush Tropical Garden

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, sleeps 1-4

Welcome to 'Cottage by the Sea'---an ideal place for rest, relaxation and romance.

Imagine a place that feels so far off the beaten path you can still feel the spirit of 'Old Hawaii' gracing the rooms of this special Waimanalo gem.

It is simple yet perfect, complete with all the details that make a place truly comfortable and homey. The cottage is decorated with many personal touches, tropical and artistic with its own unique feeling.

Walk up a beautiful stone pathway; edged with colorful plants, tall palms, and banana trees, to enter into this very private enchanted domain.

The sun dappled porch calls to you, strewn with the fushia and purple petals of the bouganvillas that frame it, a symphony of birds singing their welcome. Feel the sense of peace, of coming to your home away from home.

A two minute walk down the road will take you to one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. Sunrise is spectacular.

Enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the show!

A cool and romantic bedroom features a queen size bed with ceiling fan, and beautiful island art to create a sensual and very Hawaiian type of ambiance.

Guests repeatedly tell me how at home they feel here, with the cozy atmosphere and attention to detail so evident.

The cottage is nestled in a tropical garden filled with banana and papaya trees, colorful flowers and the fragrant aroma of plumerias floating on the ocean breeze. Birdsong and the sound of the ocean surf fill the garden with its own special music.

The location is ideal, in a residential country setting and only two houses from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island (in 2015 Dr. Beach named it one of the best beaches in the U.S.----in 2003 National Geographic named it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!).

The beach is totally undeveloped, just miles of undisturbed beauty with the stunning grandeur of the Ko'olau Mountains hugging the coastline in a spectacular embrace.

All this is only a two minute walk from the cottage!

In the back there is a very private yard lush with tropical plants. The backyard has a propane barbecue grill with a dining table and a couple of lounge chairs by the little water fall, perfect for star gazing at night or lounging under the endless summer sun.

Welcome to a little piece of paradise. Restore your spirit and feel the peace within.

Let the sound of the waves caress you to sleep at night and embrace the morning with another perfect day at the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Skye,

This cottage reminds us of a second home, or, more precisely, it feels like the original one: a dwelling of the heart.

This is why we return again and again.

Enjoyable Stay As Advertised

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our week stay at Skye's Cottage by the Sea and had an absolutely wonderful time. Skye is so helpful and friendly. The cottage is as advertised, quiet, near a beautiful uncrowded beach, in a friendly town and out of the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. The cottage is comfortable, clean, and well kept. Waimanalo is a small town/village but still strategically located near all the main highways so that access to larger towns and the many attractions of Oahu is easily accomplished. Thanks Skye for your hospitality and sharing your place in paradise with us.

This cottage is about 3 (spectacular) things: Location; Location; Location... Trust me on this...

  • 5 of 5

I’ll get to the location in a few sentences... Let me start with the cottage itself, which was nice. Sufficient. Serviceable. A family of three or four could stay here and have a nice kitchen, a bathroom and everything they need to get a good night’s rest, serve breakfast and maybe a dinner or two and do some laundry. The cottage works great. There are beautiful flowers and geckos everywhere. You can hear the ocean - and lots of birds - at night. It’s a quiet neighborhood.

That said, the highlight of your stay here will have little to do with the cottage and any of it’s features...

The highlight of your stay will be the beautiful, secluded and almost private beach, which is about 100 feet from the cottage, and totally spectacular. Just a short walk through the trees at the end of the block and you’ll be be looking at azure blue water and a handful of other beach goers (on a busy day). Some days we could barely see anybody. We saw more geckos around the cottage than people at the beach.

If you want crowds and shopping and nightlife and bars and lots and lots of people and more bars, then stay on Waikiki Beach or in or near Honolulu. If you want to get away from all of that, relax, listen to the ocean when you sleep, have a more laid-back experience in Kailua or any of the little local places in Waimanalo then have I got the place for you.

Wonderful stay here

  • 5 of 5

Called to let Skye know when we arrived on Oahu so she could meet us at the property. She lives on property and was there to greet us at the cottage. Such a lovely lady; we started talking and before we knew it an hour had passed. On the other hand, once settled in, we were left to ourselves unless we had questions for Skye. She had several suggestions for local eateries and knows the area well. And this home is a half block from a beautiful beach. Quiet mornings in the back yard with coffee and birdsong and geckos was such a nice way to start every day. Like the location of Waimanalo since it's away from the hustle of Honolulu and situated so that a trip to north shore is a nice drive. I do recommend this property, and Skye has already become an "instant" friend we look forward to meeting again.

Wonderful days in Waimanalo

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the tucked-away, cosy cottage. Everything was present for a nice stay, including beach gear and towels as well as basic kitchen stock (coffee, tea, sugar, spices, dressings, etc.) The decorations in the house were beautiful, as well as the pottery. Skye is a really friendly host, and we tried out the good eateries that she recommended. The beach is perfect - for swimming, boogie boarding, jogging, enjoying the views. Waimanalo is conventiently located, close to Kailua and Honolulu. We hope to come back again.

Simply Amazing! Will be back!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was truly a lush paradise tucked into paradise. My husband and I rented from Skye for our wedding/honeymoon. Skye was friendly, personable, and not intrusive. She was also very forth-coming with tips of things to do/see during our trip. The cottage was clean, well decorated, warm and inviting, and only a short walk to beach access. It also came equipped with ice chest, chairs and umbrella for the beach, and boogie boards. The back yard is a private sitting area complete with beautiful plants. Waimanalo is absolutely beautiful-7 days was not long enough. Hands down best beach! Chiefs Luau about 3-4 miles down the road is definitely a must. I could speak forever about how wonderful Skye, the cottage, and Waimanalo all are-check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Skye-you are a wonderful, beautiful, warm spirit and we are so thankful for your kindness and hospitality. We will be back!
