Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, sleeps 1-4

Welcome to 'Cottage by the Sea'---an ideal place for rest, relaxation and romance.

Imagine a place that feels so far off the beaten path you can still feel the spirit of 'Old Hawaii' gracing the rooms of this special Waimanalo gem.

It is simple yet perfect, complete with all the details that make a place truly comfortable and homey. The cottage is decorated with many personal touches, tropical and artistic with its own unique feeling.

Walk up a beautiful stone pathway; edged with colorful plants, tall palms, and banana trees, to enter into this very private enchanted domain.

The sun dappled porch calls to you, strewn with the fushia and purple petals of the bouganvillas that frame it, a symphony of birds singing their welcome. Feel the sense of peace, of coming to your home away from home.

A two minute walk down the road will take you to one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. Sunrise is spectacular.

Enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the show!

A cool and romantic bedroom features a queen size bed with ceiling fan, and beautiful island art to create a sensual and very Hawaiian type of ambiance.

Guests repeatedly tell me how at home they feel here, with the cozy atmosphere and attention to detail so evident.

The cottage is nestled in a tropical garden filled with banana and papaya trees, colorful flowers and the fragrant aroma of plumerias floating on the ocean breeze. Birdsong and the sound of the ocean surf fill the garden with its own special music.

The location is ideal, in a residential country setting and only two houses from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island (in 2015 Dr. Beach named it one of the best beaches in the U.S.----in 2003 National Geographic named it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!).

The beach is totally undeveloped, just miles of undisturbed beauty with the stunning grandeur of the Ko'olau Mountains hugging the coastline in a spectacular embrace.

All this is only a two minute walk from the cottage!

In the back there is a very private yard lush with tropical plants. The backyard has a propane barbecue grill with a dining table and a couple of lounge chairs by the little water fall, perfect for star gazing at night or lounging under the endless summer sun.

Welcome to a little piece of paradise. Restore your spirit and feel the peace within.

Let the sound of the waves caress you to sleep at night and embrace the morning with another perfect day at the beach.

Dear Skye,

This cottage reminds us of a second home, or, more precisely, it feels like the original one: a dwelling of the heart.

This is why we return again and again.

Magnificent stay! Magical setting!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Waimanalo was everything we hoped it would be. The pictures and reviews from previous guests were spot on. Skye was absolutely delightful to work with and was a very gracious host. The beach is breath taking and extremely secluded. The neighborhood is a quiet and quaint beach community. The coast line is some of the most picturesque in all of Hawaii. We were able to get to most any point on the island in less than 60 minutes. Snorkeling nearby (15 min) in Hanauma Bay is world class. We hope to return again at some point in the future. As someone who is a veteran VRBO renter -this is a "you can't go wrong" rental option for Hawaii. Aloha! Buck

Wonderful days in Waimanalo

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the tucked-away, cosy cottage. Everything was present for a nice stay, including beach gear and towels as well as basic kitchen stock (coffee, tea, sugar, spices, dressings, etc.) The decorations in the house were beautiful, as well as the pottery. Skye is a really friendly host, and we tried out the good eateries that she recommended. The beach is perfect - for swimming, boogie boarding, jogging, enjoying the views. Waimanalo is conventiently located, close to Kailua and Honolulu. We hope to come back again.

Simply Amazing! Will be back!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was truly a lush paradise tucked into paradise. My husband and I rented from Skye for our wedding/honeymoon. Skye was friendly, personable, and not intrusive. She was also very forth-coming with tips of things to do/see during our trip. The cottage was clean, well decorated, warm and inviting, and only a short walk to beach access. It also came equipped with ice chest, chairs and umbrella for the beach, and boogie boards. The back yard is a private sitting area complete with beautiful plants. Waimanalo is absolutely beautiful-7 days was not long enough. Hands down best beach! Chiefs Luau about 3-4 miles down the road is definitely a must. I could speak forever about how wonderful Skye, the cottage, and Waimanalo all are-check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Skye-you are a wonderful, beautiful, warm spirit and we are so thankful for your kindness and hospitality. We will be back!

Great and reasonable cottage to get the local flavor of Oahu

  • 5 of 5

The cottage by the sea was AWESOME! We went to Oahu to look at colleges for our teenage daughter. We wanted to get a more local experience rather than staying in the touristy areas around Waikiki. The cottage has everything you need. The coolers were a great addition so we could pack a lunch; something you don't see at a lot of VRBOs. The beds are super comfortable and all the fans kept it cool most of the time so we only needed the air conditioner to cool the place off before sleeping. The cottage is immaculate as well and it's nice to have the table and chairs both on the front porch and in the backyard. We at breakfast every morning listening to the birds on the front porch. The location, 2 minutes, if that, from the beach is great and you can see great sunrises every morning. The cottage is decorated so cute with great details in every room. I loved the quilts on the beds. There are some great places to eat within walking distance but to really get the feel for the island you should have a rental car. Skye was a great hostess and had lots of ideas for things to do and places to eat. She really made the check-in process easy for us. We definitely recommend this VRBO if you want a relaxing place with local flavor on Oahu.

NEVER TO RETURN.

  • 1 of 5

We had a very rough time with this property/owner. The property was in a very rickety state. Everything was run down and frail, paint chipping, uncomfortable mattresses, lumpy pillows. The kids weren't allowed to touch e.g. the blinds or the cords to operate the ceiling fans. The bathroom door didn't shut properly. The light bulbs in the ceiling fans didn't work. We weren't allowed to use parts of the yard that were pictured in the listing. When my six-year-old attempted to climb a 6 ft tall sturdy rock wall the owner lost it and exclaimed that she knew we were trouble the minute she saw us and that we would be kicked out if anything "like this" would happen again. The entire stay was very uncomfortable. I have never been met with such hostility, especially at a property that I found WAY overpriced (as in double what it seemed worth) for what it presented itself to be compared to what it actually offered.

Owner's Response: I do my very best to insure that my guests will have an amazing time here. My place is family friendly, however, this guest was alone with her three young children and the problem was that she was completely unable to control them. She let them run around unsupervised and go into areas of the property that were clearly not a part of this rental . In the 14 years I've welcomed people into my guest homes I've never had this type of issue with a family before. She said the property was run down, but it was just painted and power-washed a month before her arrival. All the ceiling fan lights were working fine when she checked in. I leave light bulbs in the cupboard underneath the kitchen sink in case one goes out, so guests can always change a bulb if necessary, or simply text me and I can come over and do it. I did ask that her youngest son not play with the ceiling fan chain (he broke it), or play with the jalousie window handles. I also asked that he not go around the property with his oversized toy gun, bashing my potted plants, and that he not climb up the neighbor's rock wall which adjoins part of my property, which posed a danger to him and which is not in an area that is a part of this rental. More than 95% of the guests who have left reviews were thrilled with their vacation experience and loved staying at Cottage by the Sea. If you are reading this review and debating if it's the right pace for you, please take a moment to look over some of the reviews posted by other guests who have stayed here. There are so many people who return over the years and who send their family and friends my way. I love hosting people who are coming from all over the world, and I truly hope that everyone here is happy, comfortable and enjoying the best that Hawaii has to offer!
