About Hans Smit

I was born in in the Netherlands and live in Amsterdam since 20 years.

Hans Smit purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Hans Smit chose Watergraafsmeer

The apartment has got a unique location. In one of the best areas in Amsterdam; facing a park and the Amstel river (no neighbours) and lots of trees and plants in the neighbourhood and still a real Amsterdam neighbourhood with all the facilties like Tram, foodshop and supermarkets and restaurant within a few minutes distance and with tram in 10 minutes right in the heart of the historical center and always parking spots in the street

What makes this apartment unique

Architecture (building from the 1930's) makes it a real Amsterdam apartment (architecture style is called Amsterdam School); very light apartment (East, South positioning) and facing the green trees of the park and the blue water from the Amstel river which makes it very quiet to relax from the busy city. But if you like to benefit cities life, you'll be there within 15 minutes!

Hans was a great host. On arrival we were given all the information a tourist could need to get around the city. The apartment was very clean and spacious with everything you could possibly need for your stay. I would highly recommend this place to friends, family and others

Wonderful apartment and host

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for a long weekend with a friend to celebrate a significant birthday, As a base to visit the cultural sights of Amsterdam, and be away from the hustle and bustle this apartment cannot be faulted. Right from the very first enquiry Hans was an excellent host. Emails were answered promptly, additional advice given and precise instructions to find the property.

A welcome of a traditional cake was welcomed, as was the wealth of helpful information and assistance with travel and sightseeing.

It was an added bonus to be able to leave our luggage on the last day, until we needed to leave for our evening flight.

In a lovely area, with great eating places and supermarkets to stock up. The apartment is very well furnished and extremely comfortable.

I would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return again at some point.

Best visit to Amsterdam Ever!

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth visit to Amsterdam (April 1-9, 2017) and our second experience with renting an apartment. Hans is an excellent landlord/host. From his initial welcome and greetings to all the wonderful information about local points of interest to recommended shopping and dining in the area, everything was covered for a most enjoyable stay. We chose this apartment because of its close proximity (20-min walk) to the RAI Center where my wife was attending a convention. Additionally, the tram lines are only a 12-minute walk and so convenient for getting anywhere around the city. The neighborhood is calm and quiet - away from all the touristy concentration in the central core. On our next visit to Amsterdam we will seek to rent from Hans again, whether it be a convention or not.

Excellent Host and Nice Location

  • 5 of 5

Hans was an excellent, helpful host during our stay over New Years Eve. He provided lots of information about things to do and places to go around the apartment and throughout Amsterdam. The apartment is roomy and well equipped. While we were there it was quite chilly so the gas heater in the living room was very cosy and warm. The main bedroom has a very comfortable bed and I assume the other bed is nice as well since my son did not complain. The stairs up to the apartment are somewhat steep so if that is an issue for you, take note. The use of the bicycles that came with the apartment was great - everyone rides everywhere in Amsterdam even in bad weather! The apartment is not located in the main touristy area of Amsterdam but is along the Amstel so you have access to parks and central Amsterdam pretty easily. It also makes the ride to/from the airport a breeze. We used Uber and it only cost 20 Euros or so each way - a bargain for 3 people! Thanks for a great stay!
