Are you looking for a place to get really excited about? Welcome to Flying Toucans(search our personal web site)... where the sights and sounds of wildlife, open-air tropical living and unforgettable views have all been captured in one special place.
Enjoy reading our guests reviews about this luxurious Costa Rican Villa situated on a unique, picturesque point on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. With lots of surrounding jungle, you have all the exclusive privacy needed to enjoy your home in peace...with the exception of some noisy visitors. Yes, the monkeys and the toucans can sound off at any time without first introducing themselves.
Superbly located in Costa Rica's Maritime Zone (within 200 meters of the shoreline), Flying Toucans is one of the very few luxury home rentals in the area that is on the ocean side of the main coastal road. This unique location affords up close breathtaking views of jungle-clad mountains, sandy beaches, and the tranquil Pacific Ocean with quick, level, convenient 2wd access all year long. If you like beaches, you are in luck as we have an abundance nearby. From the villa, take a short hike down to the point and discover two secluded beaches (one with its own 35' waterfall) or jump in your car and within five minutes be exploring miles of uncrowded footstep-free sandy beaches.
The living and dining rooms offer the romance of open-air tropical living, blending the comforts of home with the nearness of wildlife. The living room or kitchen are great central locations to gather and enjoy all that Flying Toucans has to offer. Plenty of seating for everyone. Don't be surprised at the abundant hummingbird and butterfly population and one cruises through making a cameo appearance.
The large fully-equipped kitchen, with its' beautiful custom cabinetry, and casual eating area is integrated with the living room, pool and views beyond. Whip up a smoothie or a six course meal...your choice.
Did we mention the pool? Once in, you'll never get out of this infinity-edge pool. Just three steps from the villa, the turquoise tile blends into the dazzling coastline and the popular Uvita 'Whale's Tail', a unique place to walk and explore. It overlooks Ballena (which means 'whale') beach National Marine Park so keep your eyes open for Humpback whales and Bottle-Nosed dolphins in the bay.
There is a half bath downstairs, outdoor shower as well as laundry room with full-sized washer and dryer.
Two well-furnished air-conditioned master suites are located upstairs. (King bed in one, Queen and Double in other). Each of the suites incorporates the use of local precious hardwoods for the doors, cabinets and vaulted ceilings. Relax in the comfort of air conditioning or open the windows and let the ocean breezes in. Too comfortable to get out of bed? Fine, enjoy the views from your pillow... now if you could just get someone to bring you breakfast!
Spacious bathrooms feature tumbled Colombian limestone showers and an openness that continues to let the outdoors in while providing all the privacy needed.
You will love taking advantage of the spacious terrace upstairs. It's perfect for wildlife viewing, whale watching, stargazing, photography, sunrises and sunsets, or just dozing off in the comfy hammock. Surrounding the villa are exotic heliconias, a variety of fragrant gingers, exotic palms, birds-of-paradise, fruit trees etc... not only for your enjoyment but to attract our fine feathered friends. Discover a tropical fruit of flower you've never seen or tasted before or that flowery scent. Where is it coming from?
Have you been searching for the perfect place in paradise? Eureka, you've found it! We invite you to stay in our home and experience it all.

About John and Mary Reilly
Greetings from our villa called Flying Toucans! We first visited Costa Rica in November of 1998 on our honeymoon. Having both lived on Maui for many years and traveled extensively internationally, we were interested in a new adventure and a memorable challenge. We had read about the country for several years prior to our visit and it sounded as though Costa Rica fit all of our criteria. After exploring the various regions of the country, meeting the people and having a delightful time we knew we were destined to relocate. As it happened, on this first trip, we discovered this one-of-a-kind property and purchased it. This set in motion our plans of eventually relocating. After more preparation, we made the move and actually lived in a tent on the property for several months while designing Flying Toucans. This allowed us to understand how best to showcase the awesome views and the wildlife while combining luxury with tropical living. Now that Flying Toucans has become a reality, we offer to share it with you. With years of experience in the luxury tourism industry, we believe we have created a truly unique beautiful place for you to call home while you embark on your own adventures. If you have been looking and looking for that special destination you will never forget, you have found it! Hope to see you here soon, :) John and Mary Reilly
Why John and Mary Reilly chose Dominical
Carefully compare the view, the privacy, the pool, the open air living design, the abundant wildlife, proximity to the ocean, easy 2wd access, read the reviews, but don't wait too long to decide as the calendar fills well in advance!

The Legends are true
We came with high expectations and they were all met. The house is immaculate. The location is exquisite. The view is fantastic and the animal encounters were splendid.
Definitely put some fruit in the feeder (buy the fruit from the local stand and not the grocery store). We had visits from 2 varieties of monkeys, a family of small capybara and a variety of birds.
If you SCUBA dive we had a great dive on Cano Island. The fish were tame and we got to swim very close to several white tip reef sharks (the highlight of the trip for our younger son).
One heads up if you are arriving on Easter weekend they may be running all the lanes of the main highway away from the beach. Both google, apple and GPS did not understand this and it took us a couple extra hours to arrive.
Dayrl is a great resource and very nice and really helped optimize the trip. He definitely knows the local restaurant scene. The lasagna was so good at Exotica that my older son insisted we go there twice (save room for dessert).
All was perfect with this property. It was beautiful, comfortable, and easy.
The moment we walked onto this property, we knew we had made the perfect choice.
Flying Toucans was the kind of place that made you think “I can’t believe we’re here”.
The living room and dining room have no walls—they are all open air and it’s fantastic. While someone is having their morning coffee on the couch, they can chat with the person floating in the pool. The well equipped kitchen can lock up for the night but in the morning it’s so nice to open the folding wall to the gorgeous view.
The two bedrooms upstairs were both spacious and clean. The beds were so comfortable! The master bedroom has a wonderful balcony that gives even more great views. Both bedrooms have bathrooms with showers that allow views of the jungle around you.
We rented a car. Our mornings were spent hanging around the house and the afternoons spent discovering the many beaches around. Beware...we were robbed on a very secluded beach. We very foolishly thought that since NOBODY was around we could swim together. Very embarrassing but something that should be shared. Never, never leave your valuables unguarded.
We all (2 adults, 2 young adult daughters) really enjoyed the Don Lolu horseback riding tour to Nauyaca Falls. The hike down to the falls is something to consider if there is anyone with mobility issues in your party.
Daryl, the property manager, couldn’t have been nicer. He gave advice, recommendations, ideas, and was also helpful with advice after our robbery. He also book outings and made reservations for us. Thanks Daryl!
Our daughter joined us later in the week and took a flight on Sansa Air from San Jose. It was so worth it—not having to drive the long distance to get her was priceless.
We hope to return one day to this paradise. Thank you, John and Mary, for sharing your home with us.
We are so happy you stayed with us and enjoyed yourselves so much. Sorry to hear about your belongings being taken. That's unfortunate, it's uncommon but anything can happen to valuables left unattended in public places or unlocked vehicles. Glad it didn't ruin your wonderful family vacation.
Come back soon!

There is a good reason that Flying Toucans has nothing but 5 star reviews. The house is beautiful. Everything you would need for a great vacation is already on the property. The views are spectacular with different types of wildlife showing up throughout the day. Do a little research online of things you might want to do in the area but don't book anything. Daryl knows everything and will take care of it for you. Having someone so knowledgeable available is great because it removes the opportunity for "rookie mistakes" if you are new to the area. Every suggestion was perfect. I recommend renting a car because there is just so much to do. 4 wheel drive not completely necessary but advised. Some things worth seeing are off the beaten path. We like to rent homes with a nice view and Flying Toucans just set the bar impossibly high. A big thank you to John & Mary for creating such a magical space in a magical country. We'll be back!
Thanks Keith and Alyson for staying with us and having such a wonderful time, hope you can return soon!

Better than pictured or described!
Flying Toucans is a comfortable and meticulously maintained home on an amazing piece of property. My husband, two adult children and I spent Christmas in Costa Rica. We wanted a private, quiet, relaxing vacation where we could spend quality time together in a home that offered all we needed so we did not feel compelled to fill our days with outings. Flying Toucans certainly delivered. The view is not only the best we have ever found, but it was all ours. We did not have to share the view, the pool, the grounds with anyone, which is exactly what we wanted. We did drag ourselves away to go to the farmer's market one day to stock up on fruits and veg, and to go ziplining at nearby Hacienda Baru and out to Exotica for dinner twice. Other than that, we stayed put and were content to do so. The best place to view the amazing wildlife in Costa Rica was right from the beautiful infinity pool overlooking the Pacific. There is a feeder for papaya and bananas and we enjoyed visits from capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, toucans, coatis, and lots of other bird species. The home itself is well appointed and the quality of the home, the wood throughout and all the finishes were first class and well thought out. This may not be important to every vacation goer, but it certainly is to me. The home is maintained in a way that rivals my own and upon our arrival, was spotless (again...incredibly important to me). The owners were accommodating, helpful, responsive, and overall just nice folks to deal with in the planning phase. After arrival, there was no need to contact them because everything was as promised and better than expected. There is a manager who will help with anything needed, tips on where to go, advice on restaurants, outings, markets, etc. This was incredibly helpful and important, as we only had a limited number of days and did not want to make any mistakes. We can't wait to go back!
Thanks Ellie for choosing Flying Toucans for your family Christmas vacation. We love to hear our guests say it was even better than expected as they are all so excited in advance anticipating their time in our home. Hope you can come back again soon.
Extreamy private, comfortable, and well kept. Very beautiful.
We had a wonderful time and would definitely return.
Hi Zach and Jeanette,
Thanks for enjoying two weeks with us at Flying Toucans. Come visit us again soon!

The Best oif the Best!
This is as good as it gets. My wife and I have rented vacation houses internationally many times. Our best had been a chateau in Provence with a sweeping view of a gorgeous valley with lavender in bloom. Our next best was a house on a lonely beach on Molokai. This was way way better. Spectacular setting. It is not on the beach. It is up the mountain and all you see before the beach and ocean is green. Walk to the ocean is moderate. The pictures are accurate. Views are terrific. The house itself is just what you need. We were two couples and we all loved it. The two bedrooms were large, each with a big bathroom. Powder room down stairs. Full laundry room. Water is totally drinkable. We tested that; no problem. Kitchen is well equipted and everything worked. You arrive to a house with plenty of soap, towels, TP, starter coffee, a bit of milk, etc. Do stop and get some groceries when driving in. There are a number of good options for that. Get a some fruit for the feeder and you will have plently of monkey and toucan activity. We had two types of monkeys, toucans, sloth, hummingbirds, and various butterflys daily. The infinity pool is exactly like the picture. The local caretaker is Darryl - great guy who can arrange anything. Pick up the phone and tap his name and he answers. You really won't need him except to arrange something or to answer a question. There is a house phone and a cell phone there for your use. The summary is that you can rent this house knowing that it is the real deal.
Thanks JBB, It's great when high expectations are even exceeded. Come back when you are ready to be wowed again!

The area between Dominical and Uvita on the southern Pacific coast is famous for its striking landscape where the mountains come right down to the water. Not subject to the north's dry, dusty season during the months of December to April, visitors to the Dominical region will enjoy the year-round greenery and lushness of jungles and forests. While the rural airport in Quepos (30 minutes north of Flying Toucans) may be used, many guests choose to begin their adventure from the main international airport in San Jose (SJO) thus allowing them to see the varied landscape on the way down. The drive down to the villa is 3 hours, not including how many times you stop to take in the awesome views en route. Flying Toucans is six miles south of Dominical on a perfect road. If you can ever pull yourself away from the villa and view you will find abundant choices of dining, shopping, and activities close by. Other Activities: Ziplines, nature treks, kayaking tours, white water rafting, atv tours Golf: Besides the new golf course there's LOTS to do around here: Bird and animal watching, surfing, swimming, beach-combing, hiking, horseback tours to beaches and waterfalls, zip lines, day trips to Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park, butterfly farm, serpentaria (snake exhibition), ultra-light flightseeing tours, sport fishing. About an hour north of us is Quepos (Manuel Antonio National Park). The casual village of Dominical offers international and local style dining, a bank/ATM, a bakery, small grocery stores, an English-speaking doctor and dentist, pharmacy, real estate offices, souvenir shops, internet cafe, surfboard rentals and visitor information and booking services for local activities. A 2-minute walk from the villa is a small and beautiful European hotel with fine dining and full spa services. The villages of Uvita and Bahia, 6 miles south, offer internet, shops, restaurants, beaches, boat tours, a butterfly farm and the lovely Ballena National Park, home of the 'Whale Tail' (as is seen from Flying Toucans). Obviously absent from our corner of the world are large numbers of tourists, suits/ties/pantyhose and traffic lights... come see for yourself!
