Estate, 10 Bedrooms, 4 Baths (Sleeps 18)
Old world elegance. Built in 1848, this fully restored, approximately 7500 sq ft. (entire house including 'The Old Rigging Loft') sits just 0.2 of a mile from the beautiful Dock Square, Kennebunkport. Located on the world famous Ocean Avenue, this house has 10 bedrooms, each with their own sink, 4 baths and two fireplaces.
The 'Old River House', sits on the Kennebunk River next to the Arundel Yacht Club. Two public parks sit in front of and along side the house.
'The Old River House,' and 'The Old Rigging Loft' are nestled among the many old Captain's Mansions of the 18th Century. An almost $800,000 renovation in 2010 brings this grand old Captain's mansion back to its original grandeur. Antiques throughout the many rooms and the frequent passing of the Kennebunkport horse drawn carriage brings one back to that slower, more quaint part of American history. Morning coffee and evening drinks on the porch are just perfect for watching the river boat traffic and the children taking sailboat lessons at the 'Arundel Yacht Club' next door.
'The Old Rigging loft', according to historical data, was one of the more popular 'Riggers' for the 'Clipper Ships' built in Kennebunkport during her heyday as one of Americas largest builders of Clipper Sail Boats. Today, 'The Old Rigging Loft'( Barn) is now, a separate apartment, with Care-takers, and owner / operators, Scott & Cheryl Mahoney available 24 hours for the convenience and comfort of 'Old River House' Guests. We make every effort to assure your 5 Star vacation stay. Just ask !
If you don't walk to town for the many award winning restaurants for lobster, scallops, fried clams, fresh fish, oysters, hand-churned ice cream, or home-made chocolate, you have a fully renovated (2010) Kitchen with Top of the line 'Medallion Cabinets' and rare and unique 'Blue-sparkle South African Granite Tops'(only place in the world that produces Blue Granite). New GE Profile, and Amana Appliances can help make you the families best chef when you cook fresh seafood from, 'Port Lobster Pound' right down the road on Ocean Ave, next to the famous 'Mables Restaurant.'
There are four stair cases, and three levels of living space. New rugs, new bed mattresses, new curtains, new furniture, custom gardening, newly added european and american antique furniture throughout, is a hallmark of the Old River House.

About Scott Mahoney
Inkeepers, Scott and Cheryl Mahoney have 8 wonderful children from 25 down to 5. 5 boys and 3 girls means they are very busy all the time. They have been married 27 years. Scott grew up in Lexington, Ma, and Cheryl in Farmington, CT. Scott moved to South Glastonbury, CT at age 8 and meet Cheryl at a 'Mixer' (dance) Senior year at her private school. Cheryl, a year behind Scott, transferred to Scotts College, Fairleigh Dickinson University (NJ) . They went out with other people, grew up, and realized that they should be together and 27 years later, they still are. They have lived in Atlanta for 20 years. Scotts brother, Chris, worked at the Colony Hotel as a Busboy during College. Scott worked at the grand old 'Marshall House' in York Harbor, Me as an Elevator Boy one summer, and as a Bellman the next summer. The Marshall House was been torn down several decades ago. The Mahoneys vacationed here and in York Harbor, Me. Cheryl vacationed at her familys vacation home in Old Saybrook, CT.

Why Scott Mahoney chose Kennebunkport
The Old River House is in the very heart of Kennebunkport, in town elegance and ease. No hassle finding parking in the 'Port,' just walk. Walk or drive to the beach. The adjacent Town Parks are very well maintained and used by locals and vacationeers. Kennebunkport really is Fun and Happiness. Its a great place for Adults and Kids.
What makes this Estate unique
Breakfast in the morning, by the wall of windows, looking at the Lobster boats going out to sea and the Sea Gulls following. You can smell the ocean when the tide goes out (approximately a 13 foot tide!) and the sun bakes the sea weed. In the evening, sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch, with a glass of your favorite beverage, makes for a great and relaxed day. Finally, when going to sleep, the evening breeze temperatures get into the 50's to 60's, making for the best sleep you will have. PARKING: 52 Ocean Ave. driveway. Capacity; 6 cars side by side. FREE Parking Green St. (Back driveway for Landlord)>

Perfect location, lovely house
Very handy house to downtown Kennebunkport that was a great place to host a family gathering. There was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves and to sit out on the porch. It's an old home with old house quirks (sloping floors, steep stairs) but it adds to the New England feel.
Great place to stay!
Our team at work rented the house for an overnight retreat. The place was spotless and well kept. We had everything we needed. The location to the center of town as well as the ocean was incredible. Truly stunning views of the ocean just a short walk away. Scott and Cheryl have an amazing property. We would absolutely stay there again!
Thank you very much Mike. We definitely give your group a 5 STAR Review. We love business events. Please come back anytime !

Historic charm and seaside views all in one
We were a multigenerational family reunion with adults. We had bedrooms and seats at the table to spare. Even in January there was lots of local flavor. Ocean Ave leads right down the street one way to quaint Kennebunk and the other to a stroll by the Bush compound, all walkable distances. The river is across the street and visible from the sunroom. The inn is an authentic one with all the historical charm you could want. Top that off with the owners Scott and Cheryl who are responsive and obviously proud of their lovely home. This exceeded our expectations.
Good Morning Carolyn,
We seriously give you and your group not only a 5 Star Review but truly the "Top 1%" of Guests. You were kind, incredibly clean, and treated the Old River House super well. Hope you liked the new Guest basket of local products we provide. Please come back again. We recently doubled our Hot Water supply !

Great Thanksgiving with the entire family!
We absolutely loved the River House, it feels like an old hotel except you are related to all the guests! I had my 4 siblings and their families and my Dad get together to spend Thanksgiving weekend it was awesome. We were able to walk into town, and also to Walker Point it was so nice to never use the car all weekend. The bedrooms are quaint and charming and the first floor hang out spots are big and also so charming thank you to our hosts!!
Amy, We give you and family a big 5 Star Review too !
The Old River House was an Inn for 120 years, 1848 to 1968. It was first , Mailings Inn named after the first occupant, John P Mailing in 1848. In the 1880's it was renamed the Old River House and the original sign is still on the house.
Please come back again !

Perfect Fall Getaway
Our large group of friends had such an amazing stay at the Old River House. Scott and Cheryl welcomed us with an amazing basket of treats from all local vendors; there was delicious bread, jam, sweets, and oils. The home was spacious, dotted with antiques, and centrally located. We could see the water and walk right into town. Scott was helpful and quick to respond to any of our questions. We loved our long weekend there and hope to return soon.
Susan and the Boston, team,
You were the perfect guests ! Thank you very much for the 5 Star Review and your kind comments. We are now doing the gift basket for all our guests. Thank you for the idea !
Please come back again !

Maine is dramatic; cool evening air, windows open at nite. A huge 13' tide, means run in when the tide comes in. That also means the ocean has a 'sea smell'...because the sun bakes the seaweed on the rocky coast, when the tide is 'out.' The restaurants are all within walking distance. and state their 'award winning' status... for 'Lobster Rolls', or 'Fried Clams', or 'Clam Chowder', etc.
