The Elk-A-Way is a true log home mountain experience. A quiet location sitting on 5 acres of private land that backs to National Forest and Boulder County Open Space. Hiking, biking, x-country skiing and snowshoeing are right outside your door!
A short 10 minute drive will get you to Eldora skiing area, a great variety of restaurants and shops in Nederland and a huge expanse of more mountain activities including fishing, back-country skiing, Golden Gate State Park, Indian Peak Wilderness and only 20 minutes to casinos in Black Hawk.
Continue your adventure with a scenic 35-minute drive to Boulder; where you will enjoy a food and art utopia. Bring back your treasures and creative ideas to the serene quiet of the mountains to watch elk, moose and wild turkeys wander through your yard.
End your day by relaxing and enjoying the magnificent views from one of the 3 decks that surround the house or, in the winter, enjoy a warm beverage in the large great room while listening and watching a gentle snow fall.
We are having such a great time! Skiing was great and we loved Eldora. Celebrating Christmas here was so wonderful; we hiked all around. What a wonderful place you have!
We loved the open arrangement of the living area and the privacy of three different levels for the bedrooms and lots of windows and balconies to enjoy the views. The woodburning stove had plenty of firewood available. The large dining table was big enough for our group of seven to invite three more people to join us for dinner after attending a graduation in Boulder. The nearby town of Nederland was fun to visit and has a nice market/grocery store about 15 min. away. Markus, the owner, answered our calls immediately; and came to help dig us out and plow the driveway after a surprise winter snow storm in May! The only downside of this rental was the kitchen stove needed a good cleaning.
We chose this property for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. Fantastic location to escape the hustle and bustle and reconnect with friends, family, and nature. The cottage is warm and cozy and SO inviting. I immediately felt at home. Markus the owner checked in with me regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this property!
We have stayed in many homes in the mountains via HomewAway/VRBO and with the vast open space, privacy, beautiful accommodations, price and very friendly owners...this home is our top pick by far. We were fortunate to stay with another couple for 4 days for a quick get away.
The house is nestled at the end of the road against vast open space. A quick 2 min walk up the hill exposes you to some of the best views I have ever seen. There are beautiful trails for to explore and hanging in the house with a fire was super cool. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need. Beds are great, hot water, very clean, great entertaining area and very quiet. We had great internet access even though we used it briefly. Just as the headline says, this place is beautiful, relaxing and creates a space for adventure. The deck in the front of the house is great to hang out with a glass of wine and friends. We went on hikes up to Tungsten were we didn't see another person...Amazing.
We had a question on how to create a fire and Markus (owner) quickly answered our call and helped us through how to make it happen. He even called after our stay to see how our experience was which has never happened for me with a rental. Wow!
We will be back to this home and appreciate how well we were taken care of. Thanks to Markus for his communication and openness to share such a fantastic space.
This cabin was way overpriced for the condition of the property. It is very unfair that we are not allowed to post what we paid but I'll tell you it was twice what it should have been. I'm all about rustic but this cabin is rough and has a lot of poor quality DIY improvements and a lot of defferred maintenance issues. The top four issues we had were as follows: Don't drink the water! Multiple times the water completely shut off and when it came back on it was extremely brown like it was pulling from the bottom of the water heater tank. A real pain when your trying to take a hot shower after skiing/hiking all day. Next was the beds. A queen bed in the master suite is ok unless you have small children that like to snuggle. No reason not to have a king size bed in the master suite. As a vacation destination there should be at least one king size bed IMO. The bedroom in the basement had a twin or queen (not sure) that was left from the original 1920's cabin. Seriously, there was no box spring, the lumpy old mattress was just sitting on some sort of wood platform about one foot off the floor. My wife and I had to take turns sleeping on the couch so one of us could as least get some sleep. The "bunk" room was fine for the kids, no complaints there. Next was the fact that we had to keep a fire going in the wood burning stove as that is the only source of heat in the great room. I love burning wood but it's kind of a pain when your getting up early to explore and getting back late and tired from a long day. Plus I heat my house back home with wood so I was looking forward to the break but that didn't happen. Next was the dreaded coffee pot, albeit a minor issue, it leaked. So every morning we had to make a couple pots of coffee and cleanup the mess while trying to enjoy our morning coffee. A couple of other minor issues would be the lighting in the basement was very poor due to the DIY ceiling (can't really explain it, just really poor lighting). And then just the overall condition of the property. The cabin needs a lot of maintenance, the driveway was extremely rough (you will need a high clearance vehicle) with deep ruts, the road to the cabin is not well maintained (it will wear you and your vehicle out after a weeks stay).
We've been coming to Colorado for many years and this was the most unreasonably priced VRBO we been to. We've stayed at worse places but the price was always reflected by the condition. Sorry for the bad review but it's honest.
We had a fantastic time as a family staying at this cabin! It is located in a very serene setting, surrounded by lots of trees. Although it is not too far from civilization, it is just far enough for you to enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature and the amazing stars at night! It was like a winter wonderland while we were there. We enjoyed amazing sledding on the property, skiing only 8 miles away at Eldora, and catching beautiful views of the mountain from the deck right off of the kitchen! We saw a moose nearby and many wonderful animal tracks in the snow throughout the area. The cabin is very comfortable, beautiful, and well maintained. The owner was fantastic. He made sure we had everything we needed and was easy to contact if needed. We plan to return in the future to enjoy this cabin and location during other seasons of the year. Winter was absolutely magical here and we know that the other seasons must be amazing as well! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at your cabin. It exceeded our expectations and will definitely be back. Just a short 15 minutes to Eldora ski area was fantastic but just far enough away to have peace and quiet. The grandkids loved watching the 3 moose that came right up to the house. Very exciting! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. I would love to come back in the spring or summer. Thank you again for sharing your cabin with us.
