The Elk-A-Way is a true log home mountain experience. A quiet location sitting on 5 acres of private land that backs to National Forest and Boulder County Open Space. Hiking, biking, x-country skiing and snowshoeing are right outside your door!
A short 10 minute drive will get you to Eldora skiing area, a great variety of restaurants and shops in Nederland and a huge expanse of more mountain activities including fishing, back-country skiing, Golden Gate State Park, Indian Peak Wilderness and only 20 minutes to casinos in Black Hawk.
Continue your adventure with a scenic 35-minute drive to Boulder; where you will enjoy a food and art utopia. Bring back your treasures and creative ideas to the serene quiet of the mountains to watch elk, moose and wild turkeys wander through your yard.
End your day by relaxing and enjoying the magnificent views from one of the 3 decks that surround the house or, in the winter, enjoy a warm beverage in the large great room while listening and watching a gentle snow fall.
We are having such a great time! Skiing was great and we loved Eldora. Celebrating Christmas here was so wonderful; we hiked all around. What a wonderful place you have!
The cabin worked great for our long weekend retreat with our kids. The location was superb. We had a very short hike to gain a spectacular view of the sunrise over the mountains and a 15 minute hike to another mountain peak to watch the sunset. The hike we did at nearby Golden State Park was AMAZING. Nederland provided a nice pizza lunch at the end of our time. The cabin itself was very quaint. Loved the history of it and the wood burning fireplace made it so cozy. Highly recommend!
Our family of 4 and another family of 5 rented this house for 4 nights. It was wonderful! The views are amazing and the property is very well kept. Everything you need (towels, bedding, kitchen supplies, etc) is provided. There is a small town (Nederland) nearby for groceries. Markus was great to work with and responded quickly.
Nice cabin located on a dead end road next to a State Forest land that offered hiking and great views. Close to town for supplies and entertainment. No tv and limited cell service (not a bad thing) with wifi at the cabin. Cabin was clean and offered all that was needed. Had a very relaxing week!
The views are what you are here for. We enjoyed waking up and looking out the balcony at the snow capped mountains. Very quiet here too.....with the exception of the hummingbirds that came daily to the feeder, we never saw an animal nor rarely saw birds. At the end of the driveway you can access a hiking trail but hiking on the road on the street is just as nice! Short drive to downtown Nederland and other activities. Found it very relaxing and a great place to just kick back and do nothing. Markus, the owner, is attentive and quick to answer any questions and was a pleasure to work with. We do suggest screens on the windows in the main living areas so one can enjoy the nightly breezes and a screen door in the upstairs bedroom would permit cross ventilation for better sleeping as the upstairs does get warm with just the two narrow windows that open. In addition, outside porch furniture that is more comfortable (all metal furniture with no pads is provided) so you can hang out for hours enjoying the lovely scenery and quiet of the mountains and forest surrounding you.
Our family had a wonderful vacation at Elk-Away. Our host Marcus was very accessible and willing to answer any questions we had and always in a very timely manner. The house itself was perfect for our large family which included myself, my husband, adult son, adult daughter and her husband, plus their three children ages 2-4 years. The upstairs bedroom and bath were perfect for us and the view from our deck was great! The second floor had the kitchen, living room, bunk room with four beds and a bathroom. Our oldest son had that sleeping area. The downstairs with the double bed, bath, and larger media room was perfect for the family with the three kids. We put the 2 year old twins in pack-n-plays to sleep and it worked out very well although we had to use a child gate for the stairs.
Some of the most fun we had was hiking to the top of the ridge just up from the house and viewing the breathtaking scenery. Morning or evening, the view is grand! We also enjoyed the wildlife--we saw elk and turkeys. We also kept the hummingbird feeder supplied with sugar water and marveled at the number of hummingbirds (our high count was 20 at one time) that came to feed. While in the car we saw moose and even a wolf.
We found a lot to do in the area. Boulder has Pearl Street Mall with lots of restaurants and street performers. They even have a free train that runs in the morning. The kids loved that. We also did a lot of hiking, even with the little ones. There are many trails in the area including Mud Lake which was a nice site for a picnic and a trail adjacent to Mud Lake called Caribou Ranch. The adults in the group also tackled some more challenging trails and enjoyed that very much! The town of Nederland is fairly close by and was a lot of fun, especially for kids. There is a really neat carousel that is reasonably priced to ride. There are also train cars that serve coffee and donuts (as well as other fare) and an ecological center where kids can see live turtles, bugs, and enjoy other interactive exhibits. There are several nice restaurants especially pizza places there also.
All in all, we loved our time at Elk-Away home and enjoyed the area. It was a great family vacation that we will remember for years to come--actually everyone wants to come back again next summer to make some "new" memories!
We loved that the cabin was not real close to another cabin since we sometimes get really loud during game night. The area was beautiful, loved getting to see different types of wildlife. We had 9 people and the sleeping arrangements was perfect! Markus was very responsive to any question we had! We would definitely stay here again!
