About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2

Our economical and intimate getaway is situated within a few walking minutes to the happenings of Coral Bay, on the quiet side of the island. At the same time the location offers easy access to Cruz Bay via the ‘dollar bus’. Car rentals are optional. Separate and autonomous, living is simple and independent. The tidy and serene studio is arranged for comfort. The arched door frames your view of the surrounding lush tropical mountain landscape. Enjoy basking in the splendor of the outdoors on the spacious wrap-around deck perched on the upper level to catch the constant island breezes. The driveway is on level ground and makes for trouble-free access and parking. Local landmarks including Skinny Legs, Island Blues and Donkey Diner, are all within easy walking distance. Enjoy plenty of nightly entertainment. You’ll pass the local grocery store and several gift shops along the way—all a simple 5-minute walk. Yoga classes convene several times a week at the Calabash Boom Housing (hitch a ride with the owner/ Marcia). Or if Pilates is your preference, classes are available at the Agricultural pavilion. The VITRAN passes hourly. Two thirds of St. John is a U.S. national park with historic ruins, protected beaches, and hiking trails. Boating, snorkeling, fishing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, surfing, and scuba diving are just some of the adventures that await you. Catch the island shuttle bus, to world-class beaches for the day, hike the many trails on the eastern end of St. John, or head to the bustling town of Cruz Bay--for a dollar. Bars and restaurants, quaint boutiques and island ferry excursions are all conveniently located to the studio.

I would highly recommend this rental for 2 people. The efficiency was more than enough room for my husband and I. The apartment was clean and spacious with the added bonus of a 3-sided veranda! Plenty of space to hang wet clothes and towels from the beach and a day of hiking. Marcia and her family are warm-hearted and extremely helpful. We benefited from several conversations to get the local perspective on favorite beaches, snorkeling spots, and hiking. The resident cats are a pleasure and greeted us each morning while eating on the veranda and evenings when we'd arrive back home. The yard chickens offered a nice surprise at week's end with a couple of newly-hatched broods. WiFi was an unexpected bonus. Also, it's located quite close to several eateries in Coral Bay. I would definitely stay here again if I'm ever fortunate enough to return to St. John. [Pics to follow -- having some technical problems.]

quite simply the best experience coral bay has to offer

  • 5 of 5

I really do not know where to begin, perhaps by just saying that the owner is a blessing to have as a part of my journey through life. She has the karmic charge of a yogi and the the perfect balance of quiet humility and pleasant disposition that st john is known for. If you are just a first timer to the island, it's perfect for you, no surprises, it is a steal for what she charges, everything you need is there and maintained very well and clean. The bathroom is something on every traveler's mind and there are no worries here. The kitchen is more than adequate as I love to cook and found everything i needed to make great meals for my girl and I and whomever we met on the island and invited over for dinner. We are nature lovers and enjoy the 'hidden gems' that coral bay has to offer. If you took a day trip from another island and only saw st john for a day, this place is PERFECT for your return trip for a longer stay. There are a few villas on the property and they provide the right amount of privacy while still allowing ample space to entertain, both on the porches and inside the loft. We spent a ton of time with another like minded couple that was in a different villa on the grounds eating meals, playing games and of course sharing RUM!!! It is the ultimate island experience for anyone that embraces the beauty of island life and all it has to offer, it is less than 1.5 miles walk to Skinny Legs(bar/restaurant), Pickles(Breakfast/deli) and a smaller grocery store. With a vehicle, you are Golden as all of the unbelievable beauty of the Coral Bay side of the island is less than a ten minute drive. So many cool spots we found by talking to folks that live on that side of the island, in fact, we met the coolest, most laid back, salt of the earth fisherman who captains a boat down there. I will not put his name out here without his permission but he took us on the coolest snorkeling/fishing day that anyone could experience. I know that i am tooting the horns of others on the island but its because the sense of community there is so heartwarming and they all work together in a synergy that i appreciate and none of that would have been possible if i had not stayed here. So, in conclusion, if you stay here, you will never stay anywhere else on the island and please recommend it to anyone that loves st john looking for a great deal for a place to stay to go back. Running out of space, go to new england peeps stjohn on facebook and you can find me if you try....

Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the Island Gardens vacation rental for a week and half at the end of April, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. It's clean, quiet, airy, well-provisioned, and Marcia and John were very welcoming and accommodating. I had a great time. I didn't rent a vehicle because I intended to spend my time primarily hiking and swimming in the less-touristy bits of the island, and found the location very suitable for that. The bus stops nearby, but don't count on getting a taxi from Cruz Bay to here, unless perhaps you're in a group. When I told Marcia my plan was to spend the second half of my vacation on St Thomas she commented that I would likely miss St John, and she was right - I loved the island and a big part of that was having such a comfortable place to stay. If I have a chance to return to St John I will certainly inquire whether this unit is available.

Comfortable, Lovely and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Being a past resident of St. John who visits as often as possible I was so happy to find the perfect accomodations in Island Dreams. The convenience of easily coming and going as often as I wanted to visit friends or enjoy the beautiful beaches, being able to cook or find awesome restaurants nearby and the privacy and safety of Island Dreams created a wonderful vacation for me. My family chartered a trip with Island Roots which I highly recommend. The owner/host are gracious and respectful. I look forward to enjoying Island Dreams in the future. Thank you!

My girlfriend and I stayed at John`s and Marcia`s house for a week in December 2012 and had a blast. First of all St. John is a Paradise and I won`t go on with that since I presume people are familiar or at least made a research about the place they are visiting. The house looks even better in person. It is very clean and has everything you need. The area is more than safe. We did not even lock the doors. The owners John and Marcia live nearby and are ready to help with anything you need. I mean they are not only great hosts but really sweet people. They were very respectfull about our privacy and we really felt like at home.

The only problem are mosquitos, but that is something you must deal with no matter where you are staying on the island. House is well protected with mosquito nets but still repelant is a must have.

I dont think you will find a better deal for the money.
