About Susan Pohl

I currently split my time between Florida and Tennessee -yup, I'm a snowbird. I discovered Watauga Lake in 2010 when friends invited us up for a visit. It was love at first site! The fact that the Cherokee National Forest surrounds most of the lake makes it that much more beautiful and unspoiled. After spending many summers on Cape Cod and fighting all the tourist traffic, this seemed like paradise...and it is! I have discovered a place that I can truly relax.

Susan Pohl purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Susan Pohl chose Tennessee

The views from this house are amazing and it just felt 'right' when this house came up for sale...so now I own it and hope to share some of what Watauga Lake offers to other people. I have been here for several summers now, and it has proven to be as perfect a family experience as I could hope for - as well as a great place for friends to visit. This is a place to have good times and make good memories!

What makes this cabin unique

I fell in love with the views, hands down! The house is cute and a little quirky. The inside staircase is narrow and winds like a lighthouse staircase, but the house is cute! (There is an outside stairway that goes to the second level also). And the bath house between the dock and the house is so convenient! It is an awesome piece of property - it just feels good to be on the deck there relaxing and taking it all in!

The house and location were perfect. Our family had a great time and we plan on coming back again!

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised to find a bountiful gift basket and a home that was very clean, well maintained and tastefully decorated. We only had to bring our clothes and food, everything else was provided. We enjoyed a beautiful view while relaxing outside on the huge porch or from the inside looking through the many picture windows.

The owner is very nice, easy to work with and helpful. We enjoyed kayaking everyday and saw fish jumping out of the water, herons, king fisher birds and deer.

We'll be back for sure!

What a great week at The Lighthouse Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

What a great week at The Lighthouse Cottage! We couldn't have been more pleased with the lovely home/cottage and the remarkable lake/mountain views. Thank you for all the attention to detail and amenities that made the week so very relaxing... from the welcome basket to the DVD library...fully stocked kitchen...kayaks etc., we thoroughly enjoyed the week and just couldn't get over the amazing views from virtually every room and the sprawling back deck! This lovely property is a real stress-buster!

Sweet cottage, exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this cottage was a sweet surprise. It's not the largest and flashiest place to stay, and that's exactly what we loved about it.

It was clean and well appointed, with a beautiful view, caring hosts, and a private dock on a quiet side of the lake. Perfect for a family of 4.

We can't wait to return!

The Lighthouse is Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about how nice our stay was at the Lighthouse. We wished we could have stayed another week. Loved the gift basket that awaited us. Susan and Salvatore were immediately available for one issue we had, and it was resolved quickly and efficiently. The entire house is immaculate, bright, airy. The beds were extremely comfortable and the newly remodeled kitchen was great to work in. We really enjoyed the views from the rooms and the large deck, which is partially roofed. This was nice because if you didn't want to go down on the dock below to tan, you could do so on the deck, or you could still sit in the shade if that's your preference. We brought our dog for the first time on a big vacation, and she loved the house as well as our walks up the road.

My daughter and I kayaked using those provided with the property -- a plus!!! The lake was fantastic to kayak on. The dock was perfect for sunbathing with lounge chairs provided. Having the bath house located halfway down to the dock was also a plus. The only suggestion we would have is to put more lighting in the bathrooms. The overhead light in the higher ceilings made it a little dark for shaving or putting on make-up when we were getting ready to go out. However, for us girls, we improvised using the natural light and the full-length mirror upstairs.

Highly recommend, and if we find ourselves looking to come back to Tennessee in the future, we are definitely booking the Lighthouse again. Thank you!!!!!

The perfect getaway with all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect getaway for a multi generational reunion of girlfriends! The home is lovely, very clean, well kept, updated and the details are so nice. General kitchen and bath supplies left by the owners are generous in size, not just sample sizes. They also left a welcome gift basket like none I have ever seen! Full of lovely food, snacks, sweet, salts and a bottle of the local wine. The views are spectacular of the lake which is gorgeous in an of itself. Although the steps down to the dock Are numerous, as it is a mountain lake, it is well worth it. The perfect little Dockhouse halfway down is a really nice touch with sink toilet refrigerator and all the supplies you need for the kayaks etc. We swam and floated and sunned and kayaked and enjoyed the water. It is clean and clear and the perfect temperature in the summer. We also rented a pontoon boat at the nearby marina recommended by the owners and enjoyed a beautiful day out on the lake itself. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you could possibly need so no need to bring a lot of extras with you. The downstairs master has a nice desk nook, should anyone need to set up a laptop to do a bit of work while away on vacation. The linens are soft and the mattresses are comfortable. I brought my own special pillow from home but I didn't need it as those provided felt just right. The upstairs was a little warmer than the downstairs as it's not uncommon in air-conditioned homes with a single zone, however the owners have portable air conditioning units in each bedroom upstairs and my guests said that it felt great and made the difference and worked like charms. Cell service is very dicey which helps to leave the worries of real life and work behind but we did manage to do some texting and the Wi-Fi works great once we connected our phones everything was good. The landline for unlimited long distance calling is a fantastic link back home if needed. These owners have really thought through every detail to make your stay and certainly our stay comfortable fun beautiful and peaceful. We all agreed we want to return I know you'll feel the same! The "wooooo" girls from Augusta. Atlanta. Louisville. Charlotte. Raleigh. And Washington! We love The Lighthouse Cottage.
