The kitchen is brand new, complete with granite countertops and stainless appliances and provides all you will need to prepare and enjoy your meals while on vacation. The first bedroom with a queen bed and one bathroom with shower are located on the main level. Travel up the lighthouse staircase and find two additional bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twin beds and a loft sleeping area with an additional double bed. All have beautiful views of the water! There is also another bathroom with shower and laundry facilities on this level. Walk down to the boat dock to enjoy the multitude of water activities the lake invites. There is even a bath house between the house and dock complete with refrigerator, shower, sink and toilet! When you just want to relax, step out onto the deck that overlooks the lake and enjoy the gorgeous views up and down the main channel.
The beauty of the Watauga Lake region in northeastern Tennessee is unsurpassed. The lake is just over 16 miles long and has over 105 miles of amazingly beautiful shoreline! It is reputed to be the third cleanest lake in the U.S. and is surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest. Enjoy it all from 'The Lighthouse' Cottage!
I currently split my time between Florida and Tennessee -yup, I'm a snowbird. I discovered Watauga Lake in 2010 when friends invited us up for a visit. It was love at first site! The fact that the Cherokee National Forest surrounds most of the lake makes it that much more beautiful and unspoiled. After spending many summers on Cape Cod and fighting all the tourist traffic, this seemed like paradise...and it is! I have discovered a place that I can truly relax.
Susan Pohl purchased this cabin in 2012
The views from this house are amazing and it just felt 'right' when this house came up for sale...so now I own it and hope to share some of what Watauga Lake offers to other people. I have been here for several summers now, and it has proven to be as perfect a family experience as I could hope for - as well as a great place for friends to visit. This is a place to have good times and make good memories!
I fell in love with the views, hands down! The house is cute and a little quirky. The inside staircase is narrow and winds like a lighthouse staircase, but the house is cute! (There is an outside stairway that goes to the second level also). And the bath house between the dock and the house is so convenient! It is an awesome piece of property - it just feels good to be on the deck there relaxing and taking it all in!
Well if you looking to be off the grid then your in luck. Wifi was extremely sketchy and after numerous reboots we gave up. This was a working vacation so we had to leave early when you cannot get paperwork done. The staircase reminded me of something in a tree house at about 18" wide so we elected to walk outside and use the outside stairs to access the second floor. Bottom line is there are other properties that are less expensive and nicer.
Cabin was as advertised. Experienced no problems.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at "The Lighthouse." The house is great, and well stocked with all the essentials. Comfortably slept 4 adults and two kids... The deck and dock were the highlight of the trip for us, as we spent all our time there. The view is beautiful and the lake is so peaceful. Susan is easily accessible for anything you need. I can't wait to visit again. Thanks again for sharing your home with us!
Had a wonderful week at The Lighthouse. The cottage is well equipped and very clean. The owners left a wonderful welcome basket with treats and even a bottle of local wine. We spent most of our time gazing at the lake, kayaking or swimming off the dock. The fact that we could bring our little dog Petey made it even more special. Thanks for a fun relaxing week!
This is a great place to relax and enjoy the lake and mountains. The house is lovely with all that is needed for your stay. The views of the lake and mountains are wonderful. Susan, the homeowner, is extremely accomodating and provides a full basket of goodies upon your arrival.
We have just returned from our second stay at the Lighthouse in as many years. We returned this year because we had such a great time last year! Watauga Lake is delicious -- clean and cool (but not too cool!), and the location of the Lighthouse is perfect for water skiing right off the dock. We love having the kayaks, and the covered deck is fantastic for being outside when a shower passes by or, in the case of our week, an escape from the sun. We were there for seven days and rarely were inside except to sleep. The owners are very helpful and friendly -- could not ask for better hospitality! It's also close enough to Boone for an occasional trip, if needed.
Access all the lake has to offer right from the dock at the house. Swim, fish, or boat right from the dock. Boat launches, swimming beaches, hiking trails and picnic sites are located within the Cherokee National Forest and are available for public use. The Appalachian Trail crosses the lake at its southwestern tip. Hike the Appalachian Trail or one of the other hiking trails available and discover waterfalls and even more gorgeous views. Parking is available for the hike to Laurel Falls is just north of Hampton off of Route 321. Private marinas provide boat rental, boat mooring and boat launching facilities. Watauga Lake is perfect for almost any type of boating - from houseboats to sailboats to ski and wakeboard boats to canoes and kayaks - they are all at home on the lake. If you feel the need for a little “civilization”, Boone, NC is just 30 minutes away and Blowing Rock just another five miles or so. On the Tennessee side, Elizabethton is just 40 minutes and Johnson City, TN just beyond that.
