Enjoy yourself at the Makaha Valley Plantation. This secluded condominium complex is nestled in the scenic Makaha Valley below the fabulous Waianae Mountain Range on the west (leeward) coast of Oahu just 45 minutes from the airport and 60 minutes from Waikiki.
Everything you could possibly want to do on Oahu is available close by or within an easy driving distance. Within two miles you will find a championship golf course, the beautiful Makaha Beach known for its fantastic surfing conditions during the winter months and calm swimming and snorkeling during the spring and summer months. If you enjoy hiking, there are several areas close by as well. On site, you will find two shared swimming pools, saunas, spas, basketball, tennis, and barbeque pits.
Within five miles you can schedule deep sea fishing, snorkel trips, diving, and whale watching during the whale season (December through March) at the Waianae Harbor.
If you want to visit Waikiki Beach or any of the other wonderful sites on the island, it is an easy drive to the other locations on Oahu. Our condominium is completely furnished with king and queen beds as well as an additional floor pad for kids if needed. The kitchen has newer cabinets and everything you would need to whip up that gourmet meal or a quick snack after a fun day of swimming or sightseeing.

WE STAYED HERE FROM JAN 1ST TO FEB 1ST 2013. DON GAVE US A GREAT PRICE FOR OUR MONTHLY STAY. THE UNIT IS IN MAKAHA VALLEY PLANTATION ON THE EAST SIDE NOT NEAR HONOLULU. UNIT WAS CLEAN, 1ST FLOOR, ANY AMENITY YOU COULD THINK OF! SURE YOU HAVE TO WORK YOUR TRIPS AROUND RUSH HOUR IF GOING TO THE OTHER SIDE, BUT WE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM, JUST USE COMMON SENSE AND PLAN. DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER, JUST E-MAIL OR GIVE DON A CALL HE WILL GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP YOU REALIZE YOUR DREAM VACATION! NUFF SAID!!!!
My review is neither positive or negative of the unit, location or description provided by the owner. I will point out the Pros, Cons and Attention Needed that we experienced.
Price - You are not going to find this size unit on the island at this price.
Beach/Pool Toys - 2 Boogie boards, coolers, several fold out chairs, grass mats, etc are nice to have.
Beach Crowds - Drive up the coast 5 minutes and crowds of people thin out considerably.
Lifeguards - On the beach and give friendly safety advice of where to swim.
Beautiful Mountains - Again, 5 minutes up the coast and the views get a 100x better.
Away from the city - Honolulu is like any big city. Traffic, noise and lots of people rushing around.
Pool - Close to the unit
1st Floor - Great for someone with mobility problems. Only 3 stairs to navigate, with handrails.
Community Laundry - Close by.
WiFi - Nice to stay connected.
Maintenance - Unit had 4 light bulbs out and the shower knob broke. Maintenance came within 15 minutes to repair.
Linens - Plenty of towels and linens for a family of 5.
Ants/Roaches - None. Place anything that might attract ants into the fridge.
Security - Check going in and going out.
Clean - Unit is clean, but . . .
Drapes have water stains which makes the unit feel dirty. Futon will not fold out because it has drywall screws holding the right side together. Coffee pot lid is broken and if not placed in the correct position coffee ends up everywhere. Oops! Ceiling fan is missing a light cover. Sliding door to lanai and all closet doors need some TLC. Difficult to open, off track or broken. One of the kitchen drawers is off track or broken. It pulls out but goes in at an angle and will not shut properly. These are all minor and should not deter anyone from renting.
Traffic - Plan carefully when driving into and out of Honolulu area. Expect gridlock during rush hour.
Poverty - You'll be driving through one of the poorest areas in Oahu. Expect to see graffiti and trash.
Homeless - More than I see on F.O. Blvd in Carmicheal. Avoid the 7/11 and the beach across the street. To many to deal with. Go up the coast or to Ko Olina lagoons.
Golf - Makaha Resort closed 11/2011. I did not personally check out the other course.
Overall, the unit is fair. Priced right for size and location. Beaches and views are nicer driving up the coast. Getting to activities and around is doable. Remember this is not the Hilton, but nicer than most budget hotels. Enjoy Oahu!
The place was big for the price and he worked with us on flexible dates..carpet dirty and sugar ants all over kitchen/living and bathroom .. Beds comfortable and everything you need for cooking etc.. I'm not sure if they can get rid of the ants as it is a ground level condo..be prepared to buy a card for laundry or go to the laundry mat at the end of road .. I would stay again just know to put food items in fridge.. I like rhe quiet serene location of Makaha valley
My son and his wife and two small children flew form Japan and we flew from New Mexico to spend 12 days together. We did have some problems finding the place according to direction supplied. The grounds were beautiful and the staff on the location wonderful. For the price and size we had no other great expectations. The laundry was convenient and well kept. We used a near by beach for the Children to swim each morning. It was never crowded and the people who shared it with us were locals and very informative and friendly. We would go see the turtles come in at night at a near by beach and watch the sunset after dinner. There was an icebox for drinks and food and other beach stuff for our use in the condo. We put over a thousand miles on our rental car. The traffic was bad. Thankfully my son could use the Base short cuts to cut down on some of the driving. Thank you for providing a reasonably priced place for use to enjoy our family. There were plenty of towels and linens.
My family and I (2 adults and 2 school-aged kids) recently stayed here for 9 days. Many years ago we stayed in Waikiki so it was great to be with the locals and away from all of the noise this time. The condo was very clean (no sight of ants that was mentioned in a previous review) and the price was right for us. Condo was already stocked with dish washing detergent, sponge, salt, pepper. We really appreciated having wireless access, fans in every room, a full size fridge, cable tv, and a closet full of linens and towels.
Condo complex is well maintained and very secure. Very quiet neighbors - even the pool area was quiet. Seems that all the residents comply with pool rules. Great having the laundry room across the way too! Didn't see any recycling bins however so we had to bring empty bottles to a local recyling center.
Makaha Beach is 2 miles away. Amazing place to watch the waves and surf! Only 20 minutes to the calm lagoons at Ko Olina (perfect for families with young kids and decent snorkeling near the rocks). Only 30 minutes to Costco and Target, (recently opened) which was where we stocked up on groceries, snacks for the kids and gas. Quite a drive to the North Shore and east side (1 hour away). We didn't realize that Farrington Hwy ends so there's no shorter access to the North Shore, though that didn't stop us from visiting the North!
The owner was very polite and helpful, however the condo itself was dirty and had little ants and roaches. The walls of the condo were filthy. I wiped the counter in the kitchen with a clorox wipe and it was yellow and black. The rental angency did try to make it better for us. They did send someone out to kill the bugs. My husband does pest control for a living and so needless to say we ended up just going and doing the pest control our selves after the man left. I would not recommend this property unless it was to be completely professionly cleaned and bombed for pests. My husband grew up there so we did enjoy the Beaches that are near by.
