About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 9)

Get away from the highway! Silver Willows "Sarva" cabin is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek on four acres, getting you away from the traffic that runs through town. It features many of the comforts of home with a mix of rustic charm, and is a great home base for visitors to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Wilderness.

**New Additions in 2017 and 2016:**

- We've updated a number of amenities and accessories in the kitchen for the peak 2017 season!

- A high chair and travel crib/bassinet are now available upon request for travelers with babies and infants. Please request these items when you book.

- Our sister cabin, "Ursa" (the Bear, VRBO #929453), is now available for rent on the property. Ursa is perfect for smaller groups, or you can rent both cabins. A stand of trees separates the cabins on the property, maintaining privacy for our guests.

- New twin bunk beds, new full futon, dresser and privacy screens added to the loft, allowing for better bedding and accommodation for larger groups!

- More trailer parking added for snowmobilers.

This cabin is named for Sarva, the moose constellation of the Sami people, and is located on the western, wooded half of a 4 acre property.

This cabin is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.

Silver Willows is situated away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people on two queen sized beds (1 in the master, 1 in the loft) plus a queen sleeper sofa and twin bunk beds, all with memory foam mattresses. There is also a full sized futon.

Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

About Max and Jenn

Jenn and Max are based in Seattle, but were annual visitors to Yellowstone for many years before choosing to build a cabin near the park. Max's work as a nature photographer drew him to the natural wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the cabin was "a really good excuse to visit more often."

Max and Jenn purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Max and Jenn chose Montana

We were very fortunate to find a property that was so close to the park, is filled with trees, has mountain views and even has Soda Butte Creek running through it on the way to the park. It really felt like being in Yellowstone despite technically being outside the park boundary. Seeing moose grazing in our willows or spying one of the town foxes hunting in the meadow really makes us feel at home in nature. Even when we're tucked inside, we're constantly peeking out the window to see if any of our wild neighbors have come by to say hello.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is in a great spot. Positioned on the opposite side of the creek from the highway, our guests are able to enjoy a fair bit of peace and quiet. During winter, visitors can ski out from the cabin, or ride their snowmobiles onto the Bannock Trail up to Cooke City and the backcountry. With so much of the property growing wild, we love going for peaceful walks along the creek, brushing past the moose's favorite willows and walking beneath the pine trees as woodpeckers tap away and squirrels gather food.

Couldn't have been better.

We loved our stay at Sarva. The cabin was lovely and it came with everything you might need. It was decorated beautifully. They even had Bear Spray for their customers. We awoke to a feeding bison every morning outside our bedroom window. The cabin was tucked in the middle of some beautiful woods with a stream flowing through one end of the property. We felt safe yet secluded and the little town of Silver Gate is charming. Max and Jen called to make sure we had everything we needed. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Jim, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay, and that the neighbors came to say hello. ;) Just a note to those who have read this review: Typically we do NOT provide bear spray. In Jim's case it was likely left by past guests. However, the Stop the Car Trading Post in the middle of town (a couple minutes' walking distance from our cabins) does loan out bear spray to those in need. Bear spray rentals are also available at Canyon in the national park, or bear spray may be purchased in many stores in the larger cities and towns near Yellowstone.

Wonderful property in one of the most beautiful areas of the world.

Silver Willows Sarva Cabin is a perfect place to stay while at Yellowstone. We stayed for two weeks in September 2017 and could not have asked for better accommodations. This was our fifth visit to Yellowstone and we usually stay in the park at one of the lodges. This was our first stay outside the park - If you can say you were outside the park. We were in the park in about five minutes everyday. The house gave us more solitude and a more relaxed vacation. We were able to just sit on the deck and watch nature at it's best. From the cabin we saw bison, foxes, and deer. The cabin was well equipped with everything you need for your visit to Yellowstone and the surrounding area. Silver Gate and Cooke City had a few good restaurants, so eating out was never a problem. Everybody in town was extremely friendly. If you love nature and want see the most beautiful part of the park everyday then you cannot go wrong with staying at Silver Willows. Jenn and Max are very responsive to your requests and answered all our questions in a timely manner. We enjoyed our stay so so much that we have already booked Silver Willows Salva for our next trip to Yellowstone.

Spectacular!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cabin surrounded by tall pine trees. State of the art kitchen with beautiful wildlife dinnerware and utensils. Large picture windows to view wildlife, mountains and creek. Comfy, overstuffed furniture and beds to fall into after a fun filled day at the park . A great electric stove with beautiful glowing ambers for extra warmth. Large front porch with rustic timber furniture to enjoy conversation, morning coffee and breath in the crisp Montana air!! A wonderful location to enter the NE enterance of Yellowstone and travel The Beartooth Highway , both are so gloriously beautiful. We just loved this place and our visit to Yellowstone. Thanks Max and Jen for leaving the porch light on for us as our flight was delayed by three hours. We hope to return soon.

Great property! Our family had a blast at Silver Willows.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything we could've hoped for. Max was great to deal with and made sure we had everything we needed. The river just steps from the cabin provided our boys with hours of fun, in fact they ask all the time when we can go back. We used the cabin as a base camp for Yellowstone and it worked perfectly. We would highly recommend a stay at Silver Willows. Plenty of wildlife as well. The people in Silver Gate were friendly as well, they treated us as if we had lived there for years.

A Gem in a gorgeous area just outside of Yellowstone!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed 4 nights in Sarva just outside of the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone and loved it!!! The pictures do not do it justice - it is even bigger in person and accommodated the 6 adults with space to spare. It had tons of towels and the kitchen had everything you would need. We loved the quietness of the area and getting away from the crowds. We went down by the creek everyday after hiking to relax. We even were lucky to have the local Bison Jackson visit us one day right in front of the cabin! The cabin is 1 mile from the Northeast Entrance giving you quick access to the Lamar Valley which we loved. Don't forget to do the Beartooth Highway - quite the experience - I have never seen a mountain road like that! Would definitely recommend this cabin for anyone wanting to visit Yellowstone and the Beartooth area. Cindy Marlow
