About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 9)

Get away from the highway! Silver Willows "Sarva" cabin is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek on four acres, getting you away from the traffic that runs through town. It features many of the comforts of home with a mix of rustic charm, and is a great home base for visitors to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Wilderness.

**New Additions in 2017 and 2016:**

- We've updated a number of amenities and accessories in the kitchen for the peak 2017 season!

- A travel crib/bassinet is now available upon request for travelers with babies and infants. Please request this item when you book.

- Our sister cabin, "Ursa" (the Bear, VRBO #929453), is now available for rent on the property. Ursa is perfect for smaller groups, or you can rent both cabins. A stand of trees separates the cabins on the property, maintaining privacy for our guests.

- New twin bunk beds, new full futon, dresser and privacy screens added to the loft, allowing for better bedding and accommodation for larger groups!

- More trailer parking added for snowmobilers.

This cabin is named for Sarva, the moose constellation of the Sami people, and is located on the western, wooded half of a 4 acre property.

This cabin is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.

Silver Willows is situated away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people on two queen sized beds (1 in the master, 1 in the loft) plus a queen sleeper sofa and twin bunk beds, all with memory foam mattresses. There is also a full sized futon.

Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

About Max and Jenn

Jenn and Max are based in Seattle, but were annual visitors to Yellowstone for many years before choosing to build a cabin near the park. Max's work as a nature photographer drew him to the natural wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the cabin was "a really good excuse to visit more often."

Max and Jenn purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Max and Jenn chose Montana

We were very fortunate to find a property that was so close to the park, is filled with trees, has mountain views and even has Soda Butte Creek running through it on the way to the park. It really felt like being in Yellowstone despite technically being outside the park boundary. Seeing moose grazing in our willows or spying one of the town foxes hunting in the meadow really makes us feel at home in nature. Even when we're tucked inside, we're constantly peeking out the window to see if any of our wild neighbors have come by to say hello.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is in a great spot. Positioned on the opposite side of the creek from the highway, our guests are able to enjoy a fair bit of peace and quiet. During winter, visitors can ski out from the cabin, or ride their snowmobiles onto the Bannock Trail up to Cooke City and the backcountry. With so much of the property growing wild, we love going for peaceful walks along the creek, brushing past the moose's favorite willows and walking beneath the pine trees as woodpeckers tap away and squirrels gather food.

Fantastic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful 3 day stay as a family with 3 young kids. The cabin is very well situated on the north-eastern entrance to Yellowstone and well supplied. The kids were delighted with the bunk beds and the supply of children's books and DVDs to keep them occupied in the evening after a day touring the national park. I hope we get the opportunity to visit again in the future.

Silver Willows Sarva Cabin is excellent. Would highly recommend this property to any one.

  • 5 of 5

Max, the owner was wonderful. If you had any questions or concerns he helped immediately. The home was immaculate, furnishings extremely comfortable and the kitchen had everything you would ever want. Being just 1 mile from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone Nat. Park was so convenient. Many late afternoon we would see, "our moose" in the willows next to Soda Butte Creek right outside our kitchen window. Sarva Cabin had all the amenities anyone would like. Again would recommend Silver Willows highly to anyone.

Spotless and Comfortable. Great location.

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week long stay at the Silver Willows Sarva cabin and can't wait to plan our next trip back!

The cabin was very well maintained and spotless. We had every spice, utensil and pan we needed. There was a plethora of thick towels and tons of blankets to cuddle up next to the fireplace on chilly mornings and evenings. The cabin overlooks the Soda Butte Creek, where we were able to watch a moose yearling graze while passing through the property. We also saw bison grazing at nearby properties.

There were 4 adults and 1 child staying at the cabin and we all had ample space to spread out and have our own areas. The only con I can find is that the banister upstairs is set very high from the ground, so extra caution must be used if you are staying here with very young children who may be able to slip through the opening.

The Sarva Cabin was about 1 mile from the Northeast entrance of YNP. We enjoyed a few meals in town at the Log Cabin Cafe and coffees (and a bear spray rental) from the "Stop the Car" shop. Max and Jenn were very accomodating and made sure we had everything we needed in order to be comfortable and have a great week. I would highly recommend this cabin to future renters. Thanks for a great vacation!!

Beautiful Cabin & Location!!!

  • 5 of 5

Hubby and I booked a last minute trip to Yellowstone, I've always wanted to stay at Silver Gate. The cabin Sarva was available, we sent an email and the owners Jenn and Max contacted us immediately. We were booked and paid for with in a day. The cabin is beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice, and it is spotlessly clean. The owners have thought of all the little details that make a stay so much more comfortable, like wonderful thick bath towels, good mattresses and bedding, lots of throws in the living room, so you can be cozy while sitting around the fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped to cook all your meals, honestly you won't find a better view in any restaurant locally, the kitchen table window overlooks the Soda Butte Creek. Although you won't spend much time watching TV, it was awesome to have satellite TV, so I could watch my Hockey team playing in the playoffs. The best part of this cabin is the wildlife that lives around it. We saw a couple different Moose(my target species this trip!), a Red Fox, a large male Bison, a Otter, so many species of birds, and my favorite, 4 Harlequin Ducks! The Lamar Valley was amazing as always, we saw so much wildlife. I love Yellowstone and I can't wait to return, we will stay at Sarva again!

Thank you Jenn & Max!

Beautiful cabin in a lovely setting!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this cabin a few times over the last couple years or so. The owners always keep the cabin well maintained and clean. We have always stayed in the Sarva cabin, but the new cabin (Ursa) looks like a nice cabin as well. This is one of the nicest and more private cabins for rent in Silver Gate. We have only stayed in the winter and fall, not the busy Yellowstone tourist season, and most of the cabins around this property are shut during those times. We haven't yet stayed in Sarva while other guests have been in Ursa, but that cabin is at the other end of the property allowing both cabins to have a private setting.

The location is great for access to North East Yellowstone and the Beartooth Plateau. For skiers/snow snowshoers that are concerned about snowmobile use in winter, we've always found Silvergate to be quiet in the winter with most snowmobile use in Cooke City. Winter access to the park is great as it's only a short drive to the Northeast Ski trails and even Lamar Valley and Blacktail Deer Plateau are not a long drive away. You can even ski/snowshoe right from the cabin along the Bannock/Warm Springs trail which enters the Abasaroka Beartooth Wilderness right behind the cabin and continues into Yellowstone. We actually prefer staying here vs. Mammoth Hot Springs in the winter since it's quieter than being in the lodge and the skiing is better on this end of the park.

Soda Butte creek runs through the property and there is good fishing right out the door. We have seen lots of wildlife on the property as well including red fox and even a bison. Of course there are always bears around (except dead of winter) so keep your head on a swivel as the owners always tell us.

The cabin comes with all the nice amenities; comfortable beds, couches, chairs; nice dining table and chairs, a cozy gas stove/fire place that heats the cabin nicely, and on demand hot water so you don't run out. There are always plenty of towels supplied and extra blankets, plus all the kitchen appliances, satellite TV, and internet are always working. You can tell the owners take pride in this cabin and want to provide a nice experience for their renters. This cabin has become on of our favorites and we highly recommend it.
