Cooke City-Silver Gate Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Den, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 9)

Silver Willows "Sarva" cabin opened in the fall of 2010. It features many of the comforts of home with a mix of rustic charm, and is a great home base for visitors to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Wilderness.

**New Upgrades in August 2016: New twin bunk beds, new full futon, dresser and privacy screens added to the loft, allowing for better bedding and accommodation for larger groups! More trailer parking added for snowmobilers.**

This cabin is named for Sarva, the moose constellation of the Sami people. Look for our second new cabin--Ursa--opening in the fall of 2016!

This cabin is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.

Silver Willows is located away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people on two queen sized beds (1 in the master, 1 in the loft) plus a queen sleeper sofa and twin bunk beds, all with memory foam mattresses. There is also a full sized futon.

Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

About Max and Jenn

Jenn and Max are based in Seattle, but were annual visitors to Yellowstone for many years before choosing to build a cabin near the park. Max's work as a nature photographer drew him to the natural wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the cabin was "a really good excuse to visit more often."

Max and Jenn purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Max and Jenn chose Montana

We were very fortunate to find a property that was so close to the park, is filled with trees, has mountain views and even has Soda Butte Creek running through it on the way to the park. It really felt like being in Yellowstone despite technically being outside the park boundary. Seeing moose grazing in our willows or spying one of the town foxes hunting in the meadow really makes us feel at home in nature. Even when we're tucked inside, we're constantly peeking out the window to see if any of our wild neighbors have come by to say hello.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is in a great spot. Positioned on the opposite side of the creek from the highway, our guests are able to enjoy a fair bit of peace and quiet. During winter, visitors can ski out from the cabin, or ride their snowmobiles onto the Bannock Trail up to Cooke City and the backcountry. With so much of the property growing wild, we love going for peaceful walks along the creek, brushing past the moose's favorite willows and walking beneath the pine trees as woodpeckers tap away and squirrels gather food.

Old Guys Fishing Club

  • 5 of 5

We are just a bunch of old guys who have fished together for 15 to 20 years. Every year we pick out a place that is on the bucket list for some R and R. Fly Fishing is the primary goal of the group. Our group has fished from Patagonia to Alaska and all points between. This cabin location in Cooke City, Montana is right in the heart of the Fly Fishing mecca. You are a mile from the park entrance and you can be on the Lamar, Soda Butte, Slu Creek, Gardiner, Clarks fork all within an hour. As we left Silver Willows all of our group was unanimous about the quality and comfort of your cabin. In fact it was rated in the top 3 locations that we have ever stayed in. When we come back to Yellowstone Silver Willows will definitely be our base of operations. We highly recommend it! Thanks

Perfect getaway.

  • 5 of 5

The owners have taken great care of this property. It is very clean(spotless), and still smells new inside. The appliances were perfect, and it was easy to cook meals, including using a charcoal grille outside. The kitchen is well stocked with condiments, utensils, and cooking utensils. The bathrooms were clean and the towels were thick and absorbent. The beds were very comfortable, and the bedding was new and attractive. The cabin is appointed very tastefully, and is quite spacious. Our deposit was returned promptly after our stay(3 days).

A wonderful gem near Yellowstone!

  • 5 of 5

Silver Willows is a high quality cabin set in the woods near the incredible beauty of YellowStone, Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and the BearTooth Pass. You can do as little or as much as you wish from this location and know that your time at 'home' will be as near luxurious as you can be here. The view of the Soda Butte Creek is delightful and you're within walking distance of homey delicious meals at the Log Cabin Cafe and ice cream at the Stop the Car Trading Post. Silver Cooke offers even more delightful options just 3 miles down the road. We are uber-comfortable in the queen beds, living room, and a well-stocked kitchen for cooking and grilling. The Waughs have thought of all needs and exceeded expectations.j We enjoyed their selection of videos and board games which made for lively evenings. YNP is a short 1 mile away and highly recommend this location for all who wish to visit Lamar Valley. It's especially convenient for the early-risers to watch wildlife. Max is an exquisite photographer and his work graces the walls throughout the cabin. This is a don't miss place to stay in the beautiful west!

Comfortable and close to Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful cabin in secluded setting, minutes from Yellowstone's NE entrance. Cabin was well stocked with amenities and even though we didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin because of our excursions to Yellowstone, it was a welcome place to return to each evening. We even had a visit from a couple of bison who hung around by the river that runs near the property.

Glad to be back at Silver Willows

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the cabin, having discovered it two years ago. It is very clean and spacious, well stocked and maintained. The front porch is very relaxing after long days in the park, with views of mountains and Soda Butte Creek. Max and Jenn are great hosts, very organized, and make your stay worry free. They even call the evening of your arrival to make sure you made it in and to answer any questions you may have. Can't imagine a trip to Yellowstone without a stay at Silver Willows. We speak highly of the cabin to all our friends and family, and we will definitely be back our next trip out!
