My husband, Frank, and I have owned this home since 2003. We live in Oakland, California and have two children. We are all avid outdoor enthusiasts. Frank is a General Contractor and I am a Nurse Practitioner.
Julie Vilardi purchased this chalet in 2003
This home was originally built by my father-in-law in the 1960's. His talent with wood working is present throughout the home. His Austrian upbringing is obvious in the design themes of this custom built home. The entire home was recently updated both inside and out and gave us the opportunity to add many of our favorite amenities. My father-in-law originally chose this location for the natural beauty and peacefulness.
Peace and quiet. Ability to enjoy nature just outside the front or back door. Wonderful shopping and dining close by. Easy walk to public beaches on the shore of Lake Tahoe. Close drive to world class ski areas. Hot tub on front deck. Ping Pong table and bocce ball available for summer months.
This note comes a couple of days late; I actually wanted to write it soon after leaving your beautiful place at Sierra View
but further travels didn't allow for it!
We had such a wonderful time - all nine of us - and your home was perfect for us, in every respect.
Since five of us came directly from Bavaria to Lake Tahoe (Munich), and all of us enjoy(ed) Tyrol, as recently as last summer,
we particularly enjoyed how your dear father-in-law incorporated so many building elements familiar to us. In other words:
We felt very much at home!
Another detail frequently commented on: Every square inch in the house is used......no space wasted. And we did love the
woodwork; the "solidity" of the house; the fact that noise (voices) doesn't travel to the bedrooms.
Last not least: We were touched how lovingly you stocked the kitchen, the bathrooms, etc. We certainly found all the tools
we were looking for and it made our week, and our simple meal preparations so easy and enjoyable.
And we are happy to report that all nine of us did not feel "crowded" for even one moment!
I used the downstairs bedroom, off the living room/dining room and smiled when I even found an Anthony de Mello, SJ, book
to greet me.....the perfect choice for my night time reading!
Since I have family in Reno, NV, we hope to be able to make use of your lovely home again in the future.
I trust you received the keys in the meantime and found the house in good order. We tried to take very good care of it, respecting
your family tradition and values.
All my best - for all of us,
The home is clean and updated kitchen and plenty of room for 16 of us in our group. Close to Lake and hiking. Owner is great to communicate with before, during, and after our stay.
We had a group of 13, eight adults and five kids. The house was perfect. Loads of beds and bathrooms. All very clean. The house is a short walk to the beach and a short drive to Tahoe City. It felt homely without it feeling like we were intruding. Simply put, we had a great time!
We had two extended families, and the upper story bedrooms/baths with lower story beds/bath were just what we needed, along with the two dining and sitting rooms. The kitchen is exceptionally well-supplied with utensils, for which the cooks were often praising. The owners were easy to work with and we enjoyed our holiday.
Great house for a large family like ours. The front deck is terrific and we lived there most of our stay, plenty of beds, nice kitchen, and separate entertaining areas. Quiet neighborhood, walk to the lake, and a little more of a walk to town. Definitely would come again.
I have been coming here for the last 4 years over the winter. It's a great place to come back to after a long day skiing. It accommodates a good size group. There are 2 family rooms/common rooms that come in handy when people have different ideas of relaxation and fun. The hottub is key after a long day on the slopes, too. The owners are very accessible and quick to respond to our needs. Although, I haven't been in the summer yet, I'm sure it's a perfect spot since it's only 1 block from the beach and a beautiful park.
This is a very good place to stay. It easily accommodated all the five families in our group. It has three very spacious bedrooms (two of them have bathrooms), one small bedroom (perfect for one small family), and another one with two bunk beds (this is the favorite one for all the kids). There are two living rooms with digital TV and games which entertained everyone. The spa outside was perfect for us after a day of ski. The kitchen is very nice, with plenty of cookware. The formal dinning is spacious.
It is very close to the lake (several minutes walking).
I would give five stars if the furnitures are newer, and kitchen more spacious.
