Perfect retreat, convenient to Rainier National Park!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Stargazer Retreat! It was perfectly located close to the entrance of the national park. Additionally, Paul is an incredibly welcoming host, he went above and beyond in terms of helping us plan our time in the area from hiking to food options to what we needed to pack. Furthermore, the cabin is chock-full of extras (like dispensers in the showers, tons of DVDs, wood for the fire pit) to make time there stress free and incredibly easy to plan.

We loved the space with all the custom furniture, the hot tub was amazing for post-hike sore muscles and the setting with the stream right outside was incredibly peaceful. We got to enjoy deer in the neighborhood each morning! Although, we usually camp when we travel, it was nice to be able to feel like we had the fun of camping with the fire pit with the amenities of staying in someone's well cared for space. Additionally since we were traveling with parents who are excited about experiencing nature but less so from a tent, this was a perfect compromise.

We would recommend this space to everyone! Anyone looking to explore Rainier National Park would love this well maintained, well thought out space and could benefit from Paul's care in hosting and his expertise about the area to optimize your time in the area.

Cozy Cain and great location

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very homey, decorated with custom made woodwork and furniture from the wooden bench in the entrance all the way to the deck area. The owner has put a lot of attention building it. The cabin has 2 decent size rooms with 2 bathrooms and a queen size futon downstairs. There is no TV but tons of movie selections. We didn’t’ get to use the hot tub but it is very clean and overlooking the huge yard and the creek. You can hear a small creek water running in the backyard. The lot is pretty big with a picnic table at the back. There is a gas grill as well which is very handy. The kitchen is fully equipped but if you don’t want to cook. There are several restaurants in town.

The cabin is gated as well so additional security. The cabin is conveniently located and a quick drive to the Longmire entrance.

Paul was very attentive and offered us some great travel tips before our trip and it was extremely helpful. Paul also came and showed us the house, really appreciate his hospitality.

I would definitely come back and stay again and would highly recommend anyone staying here.. There is no grocery store in town but you can get your grocery in Packwood.

Girls Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Three of us ladies rented this wonderful cabin for two nights while we went hiking and exploring in the Mt. Rainier (Paradise) side of the mountain. We were so comfortable and happy with everything--from the electric fireplace, cozy living room, well stocked kitchen; and bbq grill outside. The beds were great! Bathrooms clean and complete with toiletries and personal puffs, just as the owner has described. There was so much to do here we truly found ourselves wishing we had booked at least another day. Went to the little lake right down the street. Quiet, gated and safe location, and the most tranquil sounding little creek in the back yard. We had a fire outside one night and enjoyed looking at the stars. And it was pure Heaven to melt into that hot tub at night to ease the sore muscles from hiking. Thank you Paul. It was a pleasure to meet you and we really did enjoy and appreciate all the wonderful features that have gone into this cabin, especially all your own art work and wood creations. It was a wonderful stay, and we will be back!

Great location to Mt. Rainer, Well Equipped and Suited well for Families

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at Paul's Stargazer Cabin. The cabin has all of the amenities you would need. The kitchen is well stocked with kitchen ware (though the wish list is for teflon or not-stick type pans), bathrooms had lots of towels and soaps/shampoos, etc., the living room had hundreds of DVDs, and the hot tub was a wonderful socializing center for the adults and kids. The 2 bedrooms are upstairs and the bedding was very comfortable. The place is so homey, you really feel cozy. The rise/run of the stairs are very steep, but it was manageable. I think for elderly or those with difficulty navigating steps, they would need to sleep on the futon couch or recliner couches downstairs. Paul walked us through his property and you can feel the love he has for the area and his house. If we are ever in the area again, we would definitely stay here and highly recommend it!!

Great place near Mount Rainier

  • 5 of 5

3 of us stayed here for 4 nights and found it to have everything we needed for a great stay. The owner Paul is a fabulous woodworker and has made many items for the house which give it a nice personal touch. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook meals. The beds were very comfortable. The hot tub space is private , and we enjoyed using it. We also made use of the washer and dryer. Laundry detergent was provided. Paul gave us a thorough demonstration of how to use everything, as well as giving us tips to make the best use of our time in the area. The picnic table by the creek was a nice spot for dining, and the gas grill was a plus. The fenced yard is nice, and the lilies were blooming in the gardens while we were there. Both bedrooms and 1 bathroom are upstairs, and 1 bathroom is downstairs. The setup may not be the best for those with mobility problems, as the stairs above the landing are steep and have narrow treads. A couple of small recommendations would be to add some clothing hooks to the upstairs bathroom and to replace the bar soaps in the bathrooms with liquid hand soap. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We had a great time! In the area, we also enjoyed the Copper Creek restaurant. They have a patio in back which is lovely. The blackberry pie was delicious and the chocolate shakes are gigantic!

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your great review. And your suggestion for the coat hooks in the upstairs bath is being implemented this week. (they already exist in the downstairs bath). As for the suggestion of liquid hand soap. I have both liquid hand soap and liquid hand sanitizer as well as bar soap and hand lotion on the counter in each bathroom as well as at the kitchen sink. I have noticied that some of my guests take and clear one or both of the liquid hand soaps as well as the Avenno hand lotion from the counters and put them under the sinks to make room for their personal items. I apologize if when cleaning I didn,t notice and return them to the counter. I would also point out that in both bathroom showers there are dispensers that contain, shampoo (pantine), conditioner (tres seme') and two different brand name body washes. As well as under each sink is a bag of brand new personal wash puffs that each quest is encourged to have and use during their stay and to keep and take home with them. The reason I've chosen to supply shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand lotion is that a majority of my quests have flown in from other places and taking any of those items on a plane any more is a very big hassle. And then upon arrival the guest buys bottles of the stuff only to leave it at the end of their stay. I know because I've frequently done it myself. That is just another personal touch that we provide at the Stargazer. As for the mention of the stairs. Yes they are a bit steep. We note that in our listing, and given the opportunity to actually talk to our quests during the booking process ( which "book on line" dosen't) we discuss that with the prospective guest. And it is covered in the guests welcome package along with directions key codes etc.
