The Riverhouse on Shut-In Creek is the perfect place for a family vacation. It is a short walk downhill to the crystal clear Frio River. With the house rental you have the right to walk down to the river and get in, to float or sit ,in the water. You can not place your chairs on the bank. You can sit them in the water. If you can manage to keep your things off the bank this might be perfect place for you. In the evening you can sit on the porch or balcony and enjoy a beautiful hill country sunset. As the sun sets the miniature golf course across the street lights up and beckons the amateur golfers young and old. More experienced golfers might enjoy the new 18 hole professional golf course. The house also has satellite TV, DVD and VCR players. So, if you choose, you can watch the latest flick or an old favorite.
The house is well suited for large groups and will sleep 13. It has three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In the livingroom there is a sofa and a twin bed. The first bedroom has a full size bed. The middle bedroom has 2 full size beds and 2 twin beds. The third bedroom has a trundle with two twins. You will need to bring your own sheets, pillow cases, and towels. The house has a full kitchen with a dishwasher. The dining room has two tables sitting 6 and 6. There is also a washer and dryer. A balcony surrounds the back of the house overhanging a dry creek. Covered patio dining can be enjoyed just outside the front door with a step down to an open air deck. The livingroom has satellite TV, a VCR, a DVD player, and a large rock fireplace.

The Riverhouse on Shut-In Creek is about 90 miles west of San Antonio in Concan, Texas on the beautiful Frio River. The house is accessible from River Road and is about 23 miles from Uvalde.
The location of this home was AMAZING - we were 1/2 a mile from the tube rental/shuttle services to float the river and right up the river from Neal's Lodge. It was a short walk to the river and the "dry creek bed" that was spoken about in previous reviews was instead breathtaking waterfalls and a small river leading into the Frio. We spent so much time hanging out here, the water was crystal clear and it was our own little hide away. The river was right down the road and was beautiful to go sit in and enjoy!
The house was an older home, but had so much character and was extremely unique. The owners were very nice to work with and made sure we had everything. One of the biggest perks of the home was all of the items that were provided, it was a fully stocked kitchen with dishes, a lot of spices, cups, etc. which was amazing to be able to utilize throughout the stay. They also have a propane and charcoal grill to cook on outside. The back porch was a perfect evening hangout and well lit so we could play card games and enjoy the Texas weather. We had 11 adults and we were extremely comfortable in the home and did not feel crowded or cramped at any point.
For the price and location of this home, it really is an amazing deal. We highly recommend to any future renters!
The perfect house for a family get together. The property was exactly as described. Plenty of room, lots of beds, easy access to the beautiful Frio River. Can't wait to go back.
This was our second time staying at this property. Heather the owner is wonderful about communicating with you. The home is very clean and comfortable. Our favorite spot of the house was the patio; it's a perfect place to have meals and spend your evenings. The easy access to the river made all our tubbing trips so much easier plus it made it very convenient to just walk down in the evenings to sit and relax. I do wish the house had wifi. We would highly recommend this house to our friends and family for their stay at the river.
I just returned home from a 4-night stay here with a group of friends, and our stay was very enjoyable. One of the unique things about this property is that it is not sandwiched on both sides by other properties – one side of the property is on the edge of Shut-In Creek (a dry creekbed, except during rainstorms when it drains into the Frio River). Having the dry creekbed there made the property feel very open, and gave a very large outdoor area that was almost completely private where we could throw a football around and have a campfire. It is very rare in this area to have that much undeveloped space all to yourself to roam around a bit. We saw deer down there! And lots of lightning bugs!
As for the house itself, it is very well suited for a West Texas vacation. Two large patio areas (one covered, the other uncovered but under a shade tree), several points of entry to the house (including one through the laundry room, which helps to keep from tracking dirt into the house), kitchen with all the basics. The laundry room also had a small (maybe 6 cu.ft.) deep-freeze, in case you were storing meat for grilling. Both bathrooms were large enough for several people to share the countertop space for personal items. As for river access, it seemed like less than a 100-yard walk from the front door to the Frio River (either follow the dry creekbed on one side of the house, or take the gravel path on the other side).
Anyone who knocks this house as not being “modern” enough or luxurious enough is missing the point of why people come here year after year. If you’re a fan of the Frio River/GSP area, then chances are you don’t go there to sit in the lap of luxury. You go there because you love the rustic history of the area, and the West Texas outdoors. You go there not as a spectator, but to be part of the region for a few days. To get outdoors, barbecue and tube the river, and have a comfortable place to rest at night. And this home is comfortable. With A/C and cable TV in every room, you’re not exactly roughing it! One convenience store within 5-minute walking distance, another just a short drive away. A restaurant and a gas station back on the main highway, just a 5-minute drive.
And, the owner was very patient and answered all of our questions leading up to our stay. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would recommend this home to others.
Home was spacious and had comfortable beds and plenty of space. The access to the river was not at all as it appeared in pictures........We were near enough to drive to river access at Majors campground at fm 350. GSP was full and closed at noon on Saturday.
The home needs a new key safe as it was very hard to resecure the key in the safe. We did have a wonderful time in the area and 8 women fit just fine in this home. Patios were very nice.
My family and I stayed in the house and we loved it, so much room and absolutely shabby chic. Yes it was an older home but that what's made it so cozy, it's been lived in and and well loved. We had no problems what so ever. We actually stayed in the summer of 2014 but I just never took the time to write a review but after some of the bad things I read I felt I had to write one now. My family ranges in age from 60's, 40's, 20's, 16 and 7 and everyone absolutely loved this home. I am really hoping to return in the near future.
