There is no other place on earth to see the most amazing combination of plants and animals. While hiking in the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park on the Original Cracker Trail, you might startle a white-tailed deer feeding on the tender grass, come across a flock of wild turkeys, scan the skies and see a Crested Cara-Cara or Bald Eagle soaring overhead, or listen carefully and you may hear the endangered Florida Grasshopper Sparrows singing in their natural prairie habitat. Wildflowers dot the countryside including Yellow Bachelors Buttons, Pipe Wort, Blazing Star, Meadow Beauty and the delicate Alligator Lily. Enjoy the prairie by looking into it 'not at it'.
Riding the trails at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park on horseback is one of the best ways to see the real Florida. Horseback riders are apt to see an abundance of wildlife. The trails take you through cool shady hammocks or the open plains. You can bring your own horses or we can have them delivered to our property or the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park for your convenience (pricing upon request)
It doesn't matter if you're a novice or an experienced trail rider, there is a fun adventure waiting for you to experience. You can stay on the main trails or you can head on the smaller trails and off into the untouched tundra. You will see an amazing array of wildlife. It is unbelievable!
Enjoy the original Florida Cracker Trail and all the breathtaking scenery! Have a picnic on the same historic trail that the United States Calvary built as they forged and battled the Seminole Indians south-ward securing local Fort Basinger and Okeechobee County. Lunches can also be provided upon request.
Enjoy your ride.
Perfect activities for all outdoor adventurers and nature lovers.
I'm a United States Army combat veteran, accompanied by 30 years of fast paced high stress lifestyle. I developed premature heart disease and almost died. I desperately needed a stress reliever in my life. I have always had a passion for the great outdoors. However, I had lost touch with it competing in the rat race in Broward County. Since I love the outdoors, I decided one day to head west in Florida and see what may be out there waiting to be found.
David Swart purchased this chateau / country house in 2007
While driving around in the country, I found what everyone there calls the "Prairie". It was here that I came to a place called Okeechobee. This is now what I call my secret hideaway that has rejuvenated my soul and physiology as a human being. This is the place where you can experience her majesties, the almighty Mother Nature’s life force stronger than anywhere else on earth.
It was amazing how far and wide the view was from your tower, we got up in it just in time to watch the hole sky turn red and purple during the sunset from tower.
The drive in the State park and all the deer we saw from our vehicle was awesome.
The Dinning in town was really delicious ,we found this Fantastic Sea food restaurant called Lightsey's, on the North west side of Lake Okeechobee and they had all kinds of sea food along with some interesting local dishes, Cooter, Pumpkin bread and I didn’t know Frog legs taste like Chicken Breast.
The country meals your hostess Miss Kim cooked on your 900 brick Oak log fire pit at your Property was delicious .
I never realized just how much I missed horse riding, we will be back again real soon .
I ate the Boar hog we shot with my cousins this Thanks giving and everyone commented on how fresh the meat was, thanks again for the Hunting tips you showed me.
I saw 12 turkeys and 7 deer and three giant Gators sitting along the bank of the Lily pad water hole you told us about, My boys and myself really had fun while riding our mountain bikes up the original Cracker trail in the Kissimmee Preserve.
I had a great picnic with my niece and nephews in the Kissimmee Preserve park, we did the 4 hour swamp buggy tour and filmed a huge Bobcat and saw some Deer’s and a pack of wild Hogs ran out from some bushes ,the kids spotted them they had a lot of fun it was exciting, a bit bumpy but fun thanks for everything.
Me and my family went to see the Kissimmee River and do some fishing, we caught some bass, and had a wunnerful time. My mom fried them fish in a firkin of crisco oil and we ate his fresh collops that evening. I saw a basic alligator and even an egyptian goose, the views were breathtaking and I also found some beautiful wild flowers. We took a long mountain bike ride and my youngest son Fontleroy caught a callipygian butterfly. I'd recommend this area to anyone who loves the greek outdoors as much we do, my mom is a great cook.
I traveled to the prairie with my wife of 35 years and 4 kids, we had no expectations since it was our first visit but WOWEEE! The views were great, our evening horsback rides were luscious. Our Butch Jr found a great walking trail, and we hiked all about the area, we saw really keen wildlife, a softened turtle, a wild wildcat and family of turkeys on parade. Young Toby Joe spent a day ahunting, and he got him abig old hog! But the best part of the trip was just relaxing in the hammock with my coon dog Coot by my side, and the misses. I will be back, and for a longer stay next time... What a great way to relax on my vacation!
Place was Great : Great Cabin, Beautiful setting & great atmosphere to cook a steak/relax after a day of activity !
We had such a great time and your place exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed everything from the rustic feel to David's passion for the place. It is infectious! The cabin was very cozy, very romantic and the fire pit as well. The shooting range, zip line, and tramopline were all great fun. We are looking forward to our next visit.
This was the best weekend that I've had in quite a while. Sitting on the porch drinking my coffee watching the the flock of wild turkeys that came onto the property at sunrise was totally awesome. I've never seen some many at one time. Then taking a walk at the Kissimmee Park and seeing all the gators out sunning themselves on the bank and the deers out grazing was terrific. Wow what more can a person ask for in one weekend. Thanks for a great weekend. I'll be back soon. (I hope.)
