Owner built with artist collaboration. Owner was a submariner thus use of space is interesting..Wife is nurse/NP who is originaly from Boston (one of seven kids...maybe why everthing turns into a bed).
This property is so serene and charming with it's water features that can be heard from every part of the house! Windows and views for days! Peaceful California Dreamin' filled with amazing succulents and treasures throughout the gardens!
This house has been handcrafted for years. Over 9 variations of hand carved woods throughout the house. Feels like you are in a luxury yacht!
I've rented four homes over the past three years for my group and this home was the most authentic and glorious. The home was clean, although the homeowners live there full time (except when renting it out) so there are more 'things' lying around than most other homes we've stayed at. The location is perfect up on the hill overlooking the ocean and beaches. There are parks just a short walk (if you don't mind the hill) to play with kids or you're only a short drive <5 min from the beaches, shopping and food. One aspect that is lacking is there is no wireless internet access (although we used the neighbors WiFi from the balcony;-). I would reccomend the home to anyone that is looking for a wonderful home to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sceney and/or the home.
This unbelievably beautiful, amazing hexagon dream was the perfect place for a couples' gathering. The pictures posted do not do this house justice! I fell in love with the green, minimalist, bohemian vive. The house was clean and tidy, and the beds and linens were cozy and comfy. The hosts, Frank and Lucy, were lovely, and we enjoyed their company, as well as their exclusive formal tour of their magnificent ocean view property. If you are tossing around different options to rent in the Ventura area, if available, look no further, you have found a bit of heaven on Earth. You will not regret it!
This home has many custom features that are attractive: lovely kitchen floor, lovely woodwork and glass. The owners, who live on the property, actually on the other side of a sliding door, are quite friendly and accommodating. It is a great house for 4th of July fireworks viewing. There were no comfortable chairs for TV watching - we brought in folding chairs from outside. There are no comfortable chairs in the living room, only a futon. There are two bathrooms downstairs that are only separated by a curtain. One side of the "joint" bathroom has an open, uncloseable window that lets in damp, musty air and the occasional insect. The other side of the bathroom has extremely poor lighting over the sinks. Although the ceiling beams in the lower level are impressively large, they are low enough that the entire level feels like a cave. The kitchen was equipped with a sufficient quantity of assorted flatware and dishes, however the majority of the pots and pans were in deplorable condition. We found used bars of soap, lack of trash cans in the lower level, hodge-podge towels. Although this property has many unique features and the owners are nice people, we could only recommend this property with reservations.
This is a wounderful and beautiful home. My family stayed there for about two months, when our home was being fixed from water damage. The veiw is amazing! One day we were sitting at the table looking at the view and a whale breached out in the ocean. Amazing! The owners were very nice. We throughly enjoyed having them close by when ever we had a question. We consider these owners our friends now, it was such a wounderful exspirance! I greatly reconmend staying here!!!!!
Attended a family wedding and the mother and family of the groom booked this lovely home with a gorgeous view of the ocean from every vantage point including the bedrooms. We definitely had a houseful, but Frank and Lucy were so wonderful in making sure we were comfortable and cozy. This house is truly an artists dream. Frank and Lucy have painstakingly made a destination home. Every nook and cranny has the finest details of woodworking, glasswork and artistic vision of making a wonderful home away from home. You can see with every step of brick and every piece of wood placed that love and care went into this beautiful home. We felt the price was more than reasonable, considering we had so many people we needed to accommodate. Everyone had a place to sleep and it made for a great gathering of family with closeness at the interior meeting place and always the kitchen! I highly recommend this lovely vacation destination. Easy access to all that Ventura and the beaches and downtown shopping have to offer. In this new tech savvy world, all the young adults had great wifi access so nobody missed a beat. We did not have time to watch TV. It almost seemed inappropriate because there was such beauty in the house and the view to spoil it with a blaring television.
We will definitely stay here again. We loved the owners. Thanks for making a special event even more special. All who came to visit were jealous they got stuck in a hotel :)
I rented this architecturally fascinating home for a full month in March 2010. We had 4 adults, 1 teenager (all women, on a dressage training adventure) staying full time at the house, with other visitors coming and going. The owners were onsite in a garage apartment most of the time and were able to address any issues we had immediately. When you see the home, you'll understand the painstaking love and craftmanship that went into building it. Much of the wood has been reclaimed from the fire that destroyed the original house. The marble and stone floor was designed by a family member, as were the stained glass windows and dragons that adorn the gutters. The kitchen is impeccable - and I'm a professional chef, so that is some praise. While I brought my own knives and food processor, everything else we needed was readily available. The bedrooms were on the lower level, and reflect the owner's prior submarine experience - maximum usage of square footage, practical and beautiful. Every room has a view. The views were breathtaking, the beds comfortable. The house was built for entertaining. It's a very short drive into town, which sports a good choice of restaurants, an incredible Farmer's Market 2 days a week, and other local shopping and activities.
A few notes - as stated in another review, with the owners living in the home full time, there is more "stuff" around than usually found in a rental; also, the laundry room, for us, was not usable - we used the pay laundry in Ventura. There is no wireless internet. I'd call this more of a 3 bedroom house, with a fourth bedroom if you are comfortable using a curtain as a wall (there are separate door entries for 4 rooms, but one room is split into 2 with a curtain.) Same with the 2 bathrooms. Owners were incredibly helpful - arranging guest memberships at their tennis club and gym, providing maps, lists of restaurants, and other information. I asked about a cleaning service, and was able to arrange weekly cleaning at a very reasonable price.
Other Activities: Channel Islands: tour, view, museum, and whale watching, surfing, surf contests, para sailing, sailing, kayaking.
Fresh fish off of fishing boats at harbor, Comedy Improv club, bike trail and mountain bikeing also hiking trails. Lots of Mexican, South American food, festivals and music.Theater with local and outside performers. Man music groups and performances
