My family of 11 totally enjoyed the Bayou House for the week of the 4th this summer. I can't think of a thing that was missing nor was there any lack of things to do at the house. We grilled, had smores around the fire pit, kayaked, paddle-boarded, row-boated, biked, cooked great meals, relaxed in the fantastically decorated and comfortable rooms and slept in after late night movies on the TVs. This is probably the best equipped home we have ever rented and i speak from may years of experience. Thanks to Joyce and Marta for everything.
What an absolutely beautiful house! Well equipped inside and out. We had the best time using the paddle boards, kayaks, and row boat and caught several nice sized fish right off the dock area. A few family members used the ample supply of bikes to go to Oval beach and into Saugatuck. There are some fantastic places to eat/drink right up the street in Douglas and the grocery store is really close too. We made good use of the screened in porch in the evenings as the bugs do get a little thick, although we did enjoy the fire pit a few evenings.
The only thing we felt was missing was an easy way/place to recycle all the bottles, cans, jugs, etc. that we collected throughout the week. All in all, our family of 10 had an absolutely marvelous time here and the owner was very responsive and lovely to deal with throughout the booking process. Hope to go back someday!
We just got home from this amazing property celebrating my mother-in-law's 90th birthday. She had all her children and spouses and had so much room. One of the things that sold us is we would all have our own bathrooms which is very hard to find. Everything was top-of-the-line quality and very homey. Joyce had every detail covered. The linens and towels were fabulous and there is no shortage of anything. The welcome basket was greatly appreciated and very nice touch. Everything was top-of-the-line quality and very comfortable. The last day we were there it was kind of chilly so we went outside to use the fire pit. We ended up staying out there and till 11 o'clock at night. The view of the lake was amazing from the entire back of the house. We also love the screened in porch which we used in the morning with our coffee. The appliances were top notch and the lower level had a full kitchen as well. It also was a nice quiet property with no other houses on either side of us so we have complete privacy. It is a two minute walk into town to Douglas and only a couple miles from Saugatuck. I would highly recommend this property to anybody that likes great quality and comfort. We were all impressed and hope to come back next year. Thank you Joyce for everything.
I can not describe how exquisite this house is, it was furnished with high end furniture and appliances, I have never stayed at hotel this nice. We were there for my husband's birthday with his family and everyone was is awe of this house. From the welcome basket to the towels everything was first class. The location was perfect and the house had plenty of activities itself from the pool table, bikes, kyaks, canoes, fire pit, and swings. The owner was superb and said just bring yourself and she was right. My family wants to come back to the same place next year! It was one of our top ten vacations destinations. Thanks Joyce!!!
We vacationed the last week of July with another family and the entire week was absolutely perfect! The pictures do not really depict this majestic home and property--you are truly in your own private resort. The "back yard" is enormous and leads down to your private dock with comfortable lawn furniture and a fire pit. There are kayaks, paddleboards, life jackets, bikes, fishing poles, beach chairs and a pool table in the downstairs. The house is magical as we had 3 teenage girls and didn't hear one complaint about anything the entire week. As everything is at the house everyone could easily pick their activity- loved going paddleboarding and kayaking a couple of times a day, fishing off the dock, bonfires w/smores and playing pool. There is so much to do without ever leaving the grounds. That being said, you can walk down the street for dinner in Douglas, a longer walk or short ride into Saugatuck. We kayaked into Saugatuck for for lunch one day; went to Holland and rented a boat to go tubing, loved going to Oval beach for swimming and the sunsets (8 minute drive to beach), awesome bike path for bike rides. Every aspect of this home is magnificent. Every room is so beautifully decorated it is difficult to pick a favorite; though the gourmet kitchen with floor to ceiling windows and a view of the Bayou and the amazing screened in porch were hard to beat. It is luxurious while still being incredibly comfortable. The owner, Joyce, could not be more responsive. As your every need is anticipated in this home, you sense that she truly wants your family and friends to have all of your expectations not only met, but exceeded. I would recommend this property without hesitation to any group wanting to have a fantastic week and hope that we have the opportunity to return in the near future. My only complaint is that none of us wanted to leave!
It's really hard to find an up-to-date property that offers an in-town experience (steps from shops/restaurants), on the water (with kayaks to use!), near good side streets (for running and walking), and just a short trek to the beach (for sunsets) and Saugatuck (for shopping). Bayou House has it all. We used the extra bikes. It was very relaxing to enjoy dinners on the deck. The screened in porch is a must to avoid mosquitoes.
Joyce was very easy to work with and even helped us swap weeks with another family. We appreciated the CSA basket and welcome goodies, too.
The house is in great condition and has all the extras you need when it comes to kitchenware, linens and outdoor seating. It's really set up like a two-family upstairs/downstairs house. We had 10 people and didn't use the downstairs except for sleeping and an extra fridge.
The water level was pretty low in 2013. We quickly learned to avoid the shallow spots and had no problems getting in/out of the dock.
