We could not believe how lucky we were when we drove up and saw this beautiful cabin tucked away at the end of the road. The wrap around deck made for spectacular views from every angle . The cabin was fully furnished with everything you could need to make yourself at home. We had breakfast and dinner every night at the cabin and it was just wonderful having my whole family sitting around the table enjoying and talking during our meals. I was able to take my 2 mini-schnauzers Todd and Charlie who enjoyed the crisp walks in the mornings, napping in the sunshine on the deck during the day to rest and sleeping in front of the fireplace in the evenings. We all enjoyed sitting in the relaxing hot tub in the evening after a day of sight seeing and hiking. It was also fun to see all the wildlife around, the wild turkeys, elk, chipmunks, squirrels. The cabin was 30 minutes from Durango so we were able to go into town and enjoy the many shops and local eateries. Be sure to stop by Honeyville and pick up some homemade honey, candy, jams and wine totally worth it. I would highly recommend this beautiful cabin to anyone that is looking for a relaxing, well maintained property that is pet friendly to enjoy with your family. Thanks for a wonderful getaway!
Words cannot do this property justice. Location is perfect. This property is furnished with everything you need to make it 'home' during your stay. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal..from the simplest to gourmet. It is a well appointed and maintained property! The owner has provided the same luxury for visitors, as they would for themselves. Staying at the Flying S Cabin will not disappoint!! Team Texas truly enjoyed our stay!!
This was our first trip to Durango and did we ever luck out with this amazing cabin! The location is PERFECT! It could not be any better! It is right across HWY 550 from Haviland Lake, 10 minutes from Purgatory/Durango Mt and only 15/20 minutes into Durango. We hiked, biked, and ate our way through Durango and this cabin gave us the perfect location to do everything we wanted to do! Our Boston Terrier, Harold enjoyed the property too and we were so thrilled to find a gorgeous well kept pet friendly property! The hot tub was a true treat and we enjoyed it every nigh as we watched the shooting stars! The view from the deck was STUNNING day or night- the pictures do not do it justice! The cabin was perfectly laid out and we ate many meals at home and spent evenings on the balcony enjoying the views of Engineer Mountain and the Needle Mountain Range. Truly, the location and the quality of this cabin made our experience stellar and the property manager greeted us upon arrival and answered every concern/question we had during the stay. This was an amazing experience and we cannot wait to return next summer!
This was our first trip to Durango so I quite honestly had no idea what I was doing when I picked out a cabin. Boy did we luck out! We loved being a little ways north of town as this put us right in the middle of beautiful hiking trails. We probably spent 4-5 hours a day hiking various trails in the area with our dogs and the rest of the time relaxing at the cabin. The view from the porch is amazing and the cabin is fully stocked with necessities so I highly recommend spending your free time and having meals at "home". We visited James Ranch just down the street for some local beef/cheese and PJs Market to stock up on groceries. I think our only change in plan next time will be to swing by Ska on the way through town to stock up on beer. ;) The best part about the whole trip was that we were able to have our dogs. We travel with them often but not all dog-friendly properties are this nice. In fact, I feel like many are really not nice at all. This cabin is beautiful and clean and we made sure to keep it that way. :) We really appreciate the opportunity to bring the pups with us since it's really not as much of a vacation without them! Can't wait to come back!!
This home was beyond our expectations! All the necessaries were included and it was just like being at 'home' on vacation. Clean and fully stocked. We had 11 people and 3 generations in house and everyone was satisfied. Cabin setting is beautiful-day and night, rain or shine. It's close enough to Durango to go in town on a whim but felt very private. Easy access to Pugatory, many hiking trails and fishing holes.
My wife, dog, and I spent 12 nights here in May, 2015. The weather was quirky (including about 4-5 inches of snow one night), which was fine with us. The house itself is very comfortable and nicely equipped; it was spotlessly clean when we arrived. Jenna was great to work with on scheduling; there were some technical issues beyond anybody's control and the owner Darrell was very reasonable in making things right and fair. We hesitated about taking this property because it is a bit close to the highway, 1/3 mile by road, closer as the crow flies. It turned out to be a non-issue for us (there was less traffic than we thought), and there is an upside to NOT spending 10-15 minutes on unpaved road, as some other properties we've rented (and enjoyed). The location is great, at 8300 feet. It is literally 20 minutes (18 miles) in one direction to the City Market grocery on the north side of Durango, a great town for active vacationers, and 6 miles, I think, to the DMR ski resort in the other direction. Havilland Lake, which attracts fisherpeople (!), is across the highway, so close you can see it from the house. The setting and mountain views from the house are terrific, and there is only one neighboring house which is fairly far; you are surrounded by views and trees. We would return without hesitation.
Approx. 20 Miles to Downtown Durango
