About Jane Lambert

The Owner is English, a Company Director, based on the Cotswolds and married with three children. We visit at least three times a year and have derived immense pleasure from staying at Columbus to 'recharge' batteries.

Jane Lambert purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Jane Lambert chose Providenciales - Provo

In order to have a comfy holiday home with character, away from the UK cold and wet, very close to the sea, and with the best possible choice of restaurants within ten minutes drive.

What makes this cottage unique

Privacy (without isolation) is one of the outstanding qualities of Columbus. Close proximity to the 'World's Best Beach': Grace Bay Beach, dining out, diving, kiteboarding, snorkelling and Golf make the cottage a wonderful holiday home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I were in need of sun/sea/recreation and we booked Columbus Cottage through VRBO. We found that it exceeded all expectations. We loved the privacy of the pool area and gardens, and we used the Gazebo for our breakfasts. The house was charming, comfortable and very well equipped. The accessibility of the sea was brilliant. My husband enjoyed the fishing, and it was a wonderful 'getaway' before our first baby arrives. We will be back.

Fabulous Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a secluded vacation to celebrate our anniversary, this home was perfect! The only neighbors you can see are the roof tops. We loved spending our mornings walking on the secluded beach picking up conch shells and the afternoons laying by the pool. Close to everything convenient, grocery store, restaurants, and bars, however we hardly left except to go to the grocery. The home has everything you need for a relaxing stay without any worries. We can’t wait to return!

A Treasure in Provo

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from an absolutely wonderful 5 day stay at Columbus Cottage...truly a gem. We could not have been more pleased with the experience. The setting, natural landscaping, location, amenities, pool and the ease of it all, kept us “at home” for our entire stay. Having Graceway Gourmet supermarket just minutes away, with its "Whole Foods" feel, made filling the fridge a happy endeavor, though not inexpensive. Columbus Cottage provided the perfect restorative getaway...enjoying long morning walks just minutes away on the beach, amazing shelling (though you cannot take conch shells off the island without a government permit), lazing for hours beside the pool, quiet private dining on the veranda or at the gazebo poolside, and the quiet solitude of absolute privacy. And while many rental properties are “sterilized” so as not to expose any personal elements of the owners, we loved gazing at the family pictures on display throughout the cottage – made it feel real and intimate. Though we did not really venture out, the house is minutes from Grace Bay shopping, dining and gambling. A property with lots of character and desirable features, we would recommend Columbus Cottage to others without hesitation and will happily return.

Fabulous Hidden Cottage Close to the Most Beautiful Beach

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days here in this fabulous cottage, and enjoyed the comforts of a real home with so much more character than a hotel. Great location, just 2 minutes from a beautiful beach, now named Sunset beach I believe, for it's stunning Sunsets, the location for weddings, and photographers; as its so unspoilt, yet still part of Grace bay. You can walk for miles on soft sand and swim in the crystal clear sea so lovely and warm in December.

The location is also great for supermarkets and restaurants, it's quite an expensive island but SO worth it, a real luxury experience. I was surprised at the Graceway supermarket, so much choice of world foods for such a tiny island. We did some exploring by car enjoying looking at the beautiful villas and hidden beaches, and were always glad to come 'home' to Columbus Cottage!

Wonderful rental in a quiet location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 9 nights at Columbus Cottage over Christmas break. We were 100% pleased with our choice.

Jane answered my initial rental inquiry very quickly and was wonderful to interact with before we arrived, answering many questions as I prepared for our arrival.

Given this was our first visit to TCI (and first experience driving on the opposite side of the road) we were very pleased to have their property manager Betty meet us so that I could follow her to the rental. She explained everything about the cottage and we were ready to start our vacation.

The cottage is private and restful. Having your own private pool was such a nice luxury in a reasonably priced rental! We spent the majority of our time (when we were there) on the wrap-around porch where we ate meals, read books, and played cards as a family or lounging at the pool. WI-FI was fast and reliable. There was TV with ample channels, but we never turned on the TV.

The kitchen is well-equipped and easy to prepare meals which saved us a lot of money.

The ceiling fans and trade winds provided a cool breeze our entire visit so we never needed to use the air conditioning.

The cottage is located a few minute walk to Pelican Beach which was lovely and uncrowded. It was so convenient to wander over to the beach for a few hours and be back at the cottage in just a few minutes.

Leeward is quiet and much less crowded than the Grace Bay area, but it is only a few minute drive to everything so it is the best of both worlds.

We would not hesitate to rent this cottage again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, private place to spend your vacation.

Our first trip to T&C - but won't be our last -already dreaming about returning next year!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation spent at "Columbus Cottage" The whole experience; the Island, the house/pool, amazing beach, the restaurants and the people really exceeded our expectations! We immediately felt so comfortable and relaxed in your peaceful Island paradise. The location was perfact - even without a car, the taxi works ok- we now know what to expect for next time! It's Island Time...

Spent the mornings at the beach, short walk nice way to start the day. The beach is amazing and private... afternoons poolside :), and went into town for dinner usually timing with a sunset view over the water. Many wonderful restaurants to choose from!

We didnt feel the need to do any tours, golf or explore as expected since we were perfactly content with the total bliss right there within easy reach!

Denise was very warm and welcoming, genuinely concerned for our well being - she thoughtfully had a bouquet of flowers and an anniversary card awaiting us when we arrived! - and was nice enough to make arrangements with a taxi driver for our needs throughout the week.

We loved the beautiful furnishings in the 'cottage' - But have to say, the private pool was our favorite perk! The setting is very private even though there are neighbors on both sides -can't see homes from property. Thank you also for providing the WIFI - It was helpful to be able to check in. The home also provided plenty of security if that is a concern - although it's in a quiet neighborhood - we felt fine..

This was our 1st "home" rental so we were initially a bit cautious but Jane was very personable, responsive and provided us with plenty of info in advance to satisfy our concerns...seem like lovely people.

Looking forward to a return visit!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed it as much as we still do, even after 14 years of ownership. There is always something different to do, or somewhere new to eat or visit. Let us know if you ever come to England.

Enjoyable trip, will be back to Turks and Caicos

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful spot, the water is the most amazing color and the beaches were deserted (even in peak season). The island is surrounded by a reef that keeps the water really calm, it makes for great snorkeling and scuba. We alternated days at the beach and the pool. The cottage was quiet, the private pool (not heated) was great to laze around in the afternoons.

We had our 4 month old son with us and had no problems. Columbus Cottage was a pleasant place to stay, it was within a few minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes by car to the grocery store, restaurants and shops. The beaches were some of the best we have seen, so quiet and the colors of the water and white sand were stunning...better than Hawaii or Thailand!

The cottage is definitely someone's home versus a vacation rental, we felt that the interior was a little cluttered with "stuff" and there was a lot of very large furniture. Some of the small appliances like the coffee maker and hair dryer could be updated and and some of the personal items could be removed (photos etc..)

Denise the care taker was very pleasant and helpful, we had a terrible last day when the toilets broke but she worked hard to clean and fix the problem, it was a shame that our last day was spoiled by the mess but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for Providenciales.

The grocery store was excellent and we used the bbq a few times. The restaurants on the island were very good, we enjoyed sunsets at various hotel bars and restaurants along Grace Bay. We tended to eat early but were astonished at the ease at which we had ocean front seating in every place. It is such a laid back island their idea of "busy" is not what most people would call busy, it is the absolute opposite! We found the locals to be warm and friendly. The laid back vibe was a huge plus for us but people looking for a developed island with more activities, hotels, shopping and restaurants might find it a little limited.

We enjoyed driving to the restaurants with local flavor (beach front shacks) and trying the local fish and conch, all delicious. The island seems to be thriving and if you are one of the people that struggles to enjoy a 5 star vacation when you are surrounded by poverty then you will like this place. There is very low unemployment and although the island is small and underdeveloped we didn't see the poverty associated with other caribbean islands. We may not stay at Columbus cottage again but we will be back to Turks and Caicos for sure!

Owner's Response: We were sorry about the problem on the last night. This was caused by a tree root from the garden which had invaded a pipe. A problem which no-one could have foreseen, and which could concievably happen to any property. It is fully repaired, and had not happened before in 14 years of ownership. The property remains very popular with an extremely high level of bookings this season, probably due to the character of the house, its proximity to the sea, and its amazing garden and total privacy.
