We are retired and have owned this property for a very long time. Our rates are low compared to other spots on the Finger Lakes.
Daniel and Irene Johnson purchased this cottage in 1992
The cottage can sleep 12 guests and is on a private road. It is very peaceful. The fishing is GREAT!
There is no one across the river except for a New York State wildlife refuge. There are bald eagles, deer, river otters, mink, fox and bird watching is prime. We also have a firepit for campfires and hilly 4 acres. It can accommodate 2 tents for outdoor sleeping. It is ecological and 'green'.
We have stayed a various houses in splendid locations in throughout East Coast... This one stays right of the top. The location is superb - right on the Seneca River. The house is picturesque - and the owners are the finest human beings I have interacted with. They made sure that our stay is enjoyable - giving numerous tips and suggestions. We enjoyed the home to the fullest - sipping tea on the dock or fishing some crappies. Just superb.
Thank you so much for letting us use your lovely cottage.
Everyone had a great time - My husband and son-in-law caught several fish off the dock, which was also a very peaceful place for us to sit and relax. We made a campfire a couple of evenings and roasted marshmallows, to the delight of the children (and adults.) All the bedrooms were used, the beds very comfortable, the rooms nicely decorated and airy. The family cooked some wonderful meals with all of your kitchen pots and pans, and there were plenty of dishes for everyone. We all gathered for meals on the air-conditioned porch, moving the other table next to the one there, and there was plenty of room for all twelve of us. The kids watched some cartoons on TV, and my lawyer son was even able to get some work done using the kitchen table. Children and adults played board games (my son had brought their favorites) and some jig-saw puzzles which we also brought with us.
My daughter and I left the kids behind and spent a few hours in Skaneateles exploring the gift shops, and she and her husband went to the outlet mall in Waterloo to do some clothes shopping. We also took the kids to the beach on the lake that is just south of Auburn. So, all in all, it was a fun time, and a great week with the family all gathered together.
My family stayed in this cottage for a week. We had a great time and enjoyed the peace of the place. The owners were great and anytime had any questions or needed anything was very helpful. I would definetly stay at this cottage again in the future. Great fishing also and lots of nearby places to visit.
My family and I stayed at Irene and Dan's cottage July of 2015. There were 8 adults and 2 children. I'd like to provide this review based a few variables.
Owners: Irene and Dan are very sweet and kind. They kept us updated and gave us directions to the place in the event you don't have GPS. Fortunately, we relied on technology to get to the cottage but it was an easy find.
They welcomed us with open arms and was onsite when we arrived. They gave us a tour of the house, the surrounding lot, always stayed available in the event we needed anything and answered any questions we had. They also left a list of things to do in the area at the great neighboring finger lakes. They were definitely attentive upon any needs we had. For example, the charcoal grill had to replaced because a hole had burned through the bottom and Dan had a replacement onsite within a few hours. Also, due to the rainy reason, he was there to power wash the deck, once the river receded, since it had been underwater for a while. A+ for "Owner Score".
Location: The location was fantastic. It's close enough to town and a larger city but far enough from everything to enjoy your vacation and get away from the "hustle and bustle" of city living (as I do).
There is a nature preserve across the river which allows you to capture some great morning, noon and night photos of the animals, if you're into that type of thing. My father did a ton of fishing on the dock and got some good catches of catfish as well. If you don't have fishing poles, Dan has a good amount of poles at the ready to get you started in your fishing endeavors.
Also, make sure to bring mosquito repellent as the downside of it being on the river, is that depending on how much rain occurs during summer season, there seems to be an abundance of mosquitoes present. Obviously, this isn't in their control but something to be aware of but Dan and Irene assured us that this wasn't common and that they were contacting the Town Supervisor to address the issue in the area.
There are a ton of wineries and state parks & preserves around which we took advantage of though. I'd suggest taking a drive to the Chimney Bluffs and Watkins Glen State Parks. B+ for "Location Score".
Cottage: The cottage was very comfortable for all of us. Everything you could possibly need is onsite so don't over pack, like we did :). A+ for "Cottage Score"
Wish I could say more but I've run out of space..Thanks again Dan & Irene!!
I have stayed at Dan and Irene's cottage numerous times and my friends and I have a BLAST! We catch a million bass, we go to a townie bar called Pirates Landing and we love to have campfires there! I love the gardens- so beautiful. The neighbor is so much fun too- he has even taken us out fishing! We go every year- about ten of us each time. It's so serene, and we always have enjoyed ourselves.
We had a wonderful week at the cottage, the location is perfect and the cottage had everything we needed and more! Dan and Irene were great and extremely helpful. This is a wonderful place to explore Finger Lakes or just relax and have fun on the Seneca River. The dogs had the best time ever!! Highly recommeded.
We are located on the Seneca River which connects the Finger Lakes. It provides GREAT FISHING!! By boat, you could travel to Cayuga Lake, Seneca Lake, Cross Lake, just to name a few.
