Your American host, Lance Thorne, lives on site and loves to share his extensive knowledge of the region's hiking trails, bird watching sites, local restaurants, fishing opportunities, tours, markets and shopping, banking services, and regional transportation. Maps of local trails and shopping guides to Chacala and neighboring Las Varas were researched and created by Lance , with copies in your apartment. Kayaks and paddleboards are available to rent either at Chacala Xplore (327-105-3504) and at at Surfer's pizza. At the Fresh Breeze Inn, you enjoy the quiet privacy and comfort of a fully-contained suite with its own entrance, as well as the assistance of a helpful English-speaking host, happy to answer your questions about the region or translate Spanish.

Just ninety minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, you turn down a winding road leading into a magical paradise of blossoming mango groves, colorful wildflowers and a misty green lake filled with exotic birds. The village of Chacala is a friendly and authentic little fishing town, a well-kept secret hidden from the outside world until the recent road. Chacala will charm you with its minstrel mariachi bands, cobblestone streets, family-run beach restaurants serving the day's catch, homemade salsa, ice-cold beer and the perfect margarita. Local people are outgoing and helpful, and it is safe to walk around at night. The half-moon bay of soft sand is fringed by a picturesque palm plantation. The water is warm, inviting and safe.

Minutes from the activity and amenities of town, the Fresh Breeze Inn is a quiet comfortable paradise in Chacala, quite possibly your new favorite vacation village.

About Lance Thorne

Welcome to the Fresh Breeze Inn. Let me introduce myself: my name is Lance , and for most of my adult life I have made high-end, one-of-a-kind furniture in rural Southern Oregon. I Have been living about half of the time here in Chacala for the past 10 years, and love its laid-back rustic charm. I live at the Fresh Breeze Inn so I am available night and day. I look forward to sharing this very special spot with you. I hike the local trails frequently and sometimes lead hikes from Chacala to various destinations. I am really enjoying my newfound vocation as Inn Keeper. Being a jack of all trades allows me to deal with just about any problem that comes up. I really enjoy meeting new people and I get a kick out of helping visitors 'find what they are looking for'.

Lance Thorne purchased this bungalow in 2009

Why Lance Thorne chose Nayarit

Previously I had traveled extensively in Mexico, but until I arrived in Chacala, had no intention of buying land in the country. But when I first visited Chacala, the inexplicable happened: I fell in love with the people and the town. It immediately felt like home. Within weeks I purchased my plot and began planning to build. It's been an adventure which has resulted in the Fresh Breeze Inn! I first opened for business on January first, 2010, and enjoyed a successful first season - as well as my new role as resident inn-keeper.

What makes this bungalow unique

The Fresh Breeze Inn is unique in enjoying a breath-taking panoramic 360-degree view. The cool afternoon breeze afforded by its hilltop location is a rare luxury, and the tropical garden which lies behind the Inn, and adjoins the jungle, offers you a shady quiet spot to read or relax. Lance made the local hiking trail maps and village maps so he's the one to speak with for local information. The birding from the Inn is considered to be the some of the best in the village. The Inn is located on a hill overlooking the village in a pleasant neighborhood of beautiful houses with elegant stonework and flowering gardens.

First Family Trip to Mexico

First Mexican experience with family and teen girls and felt so lucky that we had chosen to stay at the Fresh Breeze Inn in Chacala. Thank you to our host, Lance for all his thoughtful consideration and attention to detail.

Fresh Breezes Inn certainly lived up to its name: A fresh breeze came up from the ocean every day, cooling us down, while we lounged on the spacious covered rooftop deck. The rooms were clean and dry with tasteful decoration. The water pressure in the shower was amazing! Lance was a great host. He is organized, on the ball, helpful and accommodating. He would check on us regularly without ever being intrusive. Lance was a great help for our non-Spanish speaking group. We didn't realize how lucky we had it until we checked in on some of the other accommodations in town. Chacala itself is full of honest and friendly locals, humble homes and new tourist accommodations under construction everywhere. We enjoyed the typical Mexican village scene with chickens, dogs, and children. The beach was clean and the food was outstanding.

A little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Lance is a great host - does whatever he can to accommodate you and is the town hike expert, so that was a big plus. The patio off of our unit was fabulous. Can hear the roar of the ocean and the amazing birds singing. Great for bird watching. Accommodation was everything you needed including a BBQ and coffee. Very tastefully decorated in Mexican style. Highly recommend this place.

Superb vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 9 days. The owner Lance was helpful in booking the holiday and was there throughout our stay to ensure that everything was taken care of. We had a wonderful time relaxing, hiking and just wandering around Chacala. Lance and his lovely girlfriend Katheryn - who also taught yoga and pilates classes we enjoyed - were wonderful hosts and even included us on their own trips in the area.

The suite was great and we'll definitely return at some point. I'd recommend this place for anyone wanting to get away from the bigger touristy places.

We stayed at Fresh Breeze Inn for a month in Apt. 1. Very well layed out clean bungalo, everything you could possibly need supplied. Our stay was absolutely fantastic, the views, the beach, the people of Chacala and of course our host Lance. We loved Chacala so much that we are returning this winter for 5 months instead of 1.

Wonderful Week

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Chacala staying at the Fresh Breeze Inn! The views are amazing from the Inn, it is in a very peaceful location. We enjoyed the patio, the roof top deck, and the shady back garden with the beautiful plantings. We were entertained by the "chachalacas" in the morning, large territorial birds that roost in the trees next to the Inn. Lance is a friendly and wonderful host who has thought of everything to make a wonderful week in Chacala ! He is so knowledgable about the area and provides lots of specially made maps for hikes and excursions. Since we love to explore, he even loaned us his very detailed, large scale map of the area to aid in our exploring. A wonderful week thanks to Lance, the beauty of the area, and the warmth of the local folks.
