We love to travel and have done so extensively with our two children. We have logged over 20,000 miles in our RV while taking our children to all fifty states. Traverse City is still considered one of the most beautiful places in the country in our book. We always look forward to spending time at the cabin because it is such a cozy and peaceful place.
Kurt & Emily Your Hosts purchased this cabin in 2000
As a native of Traverse City, I grew up enjoying the lakes around the area. I was thrilled when Kurt and I had the chance to buy this log cabin. We worked hard to update it by adding modern amenities without losing the character and charm and that 'up-north' feel. It is just ten minutes to downtown Traverse City, yet you feel like you are away from it all. Traverse City offers such a great quality of life along with many wonderful local shops and restaurants to enjoy.
Our favorite thing to do during our stay at the cabin is pack up a picnic lunch and take a cruise around the lake on the pontoon boat. With the boat conveniently docked at the private sandy beach, there is little effort to enjoying the beauty of Silver Lake. This pristine, all sports lake, is the closest lake to Traverse City with easy access to everything. Our evenings usually consist of cooking delicious steaks from our family market, Burritt's Fresh Market while watching the fabulous sunsets. We always end the evening with a campfire next to the lake listening to the frogs and loons. Life doesn't get any better than that!
We had a great time on Silver Lake. The cabin was very cozy and we liked the backyard. We liked going to the sand dunes, visiting the towns and boating on the lake. Everything was nearby too. Thanks for making your house perfect for our vacation!
The memories of our week at the log cabin will stay with me for many years- morning coffee by the lake, beautiful sunsets, fishing, lovely walks around the area, windsurfing and 7 wonderful days away from city life. Seven of us stayed comfortably in the cottage, 3 teenagers, the grandparents and us. The cottage worked very well meeting all of our needs; the kitchen had everything you could ask for, chairs at the beach and on the deck, even the towels and sheets were all nicely folded upon our arrival. We ventured off to Traverse City, Sutton's Bay and the Sand Dunes, all of which were quite close to the cottage. It was truly a vacation to remember.
We stayed here the weekend before Memorial Day 2016. It's a super cute log cabin on a quiet, peaceful lake. Great porch off the back to drink coffee in the morning, nice fire pit, small sandy beach, clear water for view of the minnows.
The cabin was clean, nice towels, comfortable for 5 adults and a baby. The beds were comfortable - I slept very soundly in the top bunk of the kids room and I'm a 40 something. Woke up to a great view of the lake everyone morning.
The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. Everything went smooth which I appreciate when planning a vacation. The location is perfect for getting out to restaurants in Traverse City but coming back to the wilderness. Highly recommended!
Our family really enjoyed staying at your cabin. It had everything we needed and was perfect for our small children. They loved the bunk beds on the sleeping porch, playing in the sand and swimming in the water in front of the cabin. Having the water frontage protected by the peninsula made the property seem more private and kept boat traffic away. The water was crystal clear!!! The location made it a very easy drive into Traverse City as well.
My husband and I spent a blissful week at this wonderful cabin. I think the thing that surprised us the most was that although is is just minutes from shopping and restaurants, the location of the cabin itself feels very remote and peaceful. I prefer to be near shopping and restaurants, yet want to feel away from it all, this cabin delivers on both fronts. We kept saying to each other, "Can you believe this location?"
The cabin has the complete Up North feel. Our first morning there we woke to the sound of the loons welcoming us to the lake. I went into the kitchen to make coffee and was excited to find a Michigan State Spartans mug waiting for me. I had my coffee, and classic "pie for breakfast" on the deck while watching the baby geese peck along the shoreline in front of the cabin. It was heavenly. During the day we did all things Northern Michigan, and came back in the evening to build a nice fire and watch the sun set. It was our best vacation in years, and we highly recommend this classic Up North cabin and the peaceful experience it offers.
I must also mention the beds. I felt like Goldilocks, they were just right, and the bedding was super soft. We slept, as my husband says, like teenagers.
The owner of the cabin was extremely responsive to all of my questions and emails. Very easy to deal with and accommodating.
I also want to mention our favorite meal of the week. We went for the Sunday brunch at the Apache Trout Grill in Traverse. We're still talking about it, it was that good. Do not miss their prime rib or the sweet potato french toast. The cost was $19.95 for brunch, they definitely lost money on my visit....it was that good.
We just got back from our week stay at this cabin and we leave w/wonderful memories! The accomodations were just like the pictures show. We rented the pontoon boat too which was great for a quick cruise around the lake or more leisurely excursions with swimming and fishing gear in tow. Our two boys (6 an 10) loved the backyard for swimming, fishing (incl frogs and minnows) and campfires. Took several trips into Traverse City as well as Sleeping Bear Dunes. Drove up Old Mission Bay to see the the beautiful homes, wineries, lighthouse and antique stores. Prirates Cove was a great half day adventure for the kids too! We really appreciated the owner's quick responses from the get-go and I would recommend this cabin to family & friends!
Our family of six enjoyed the peaceful setting especially at night. We enjoyed day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, wine tasting on mission point, and biking from Traverse City to Suttons Bay. It was always nice to come back to the cabin where we watched the sun come down and then started up a camp fire. Kitchen was fully equipped and cabin was roomy.
