I have lived on American Lake since 2000. My wife and two daughters live in the same area as the cottage and simply love the area and all the beauty, history, and recreation it has to offer. We believe you will too. We would love to help make your travel as wonderful as possible.
Randy Foley purchased this house in 2003
Thonewood has a rich history dating back to the 1800s when several timber industry moguls were made. Most notably the Weyerhoeuser Company. Tacoma was the timber capital of the world. Chester Thorne was the financier to the timber barons. Thornewood Castle (thornewoodcastle.com) sits just 150' away. The location is very secluded and private yet you are less than 15 minutes to City of Tacoma and Olympia. JBLM is less than 5 minutes. 10+ years and hundreds of repeat stays, all agree Thornewood Cottage on American Lake is one of the best places they have ever stayed.
Waterfront vacation with your own private beach and dock.
Upon arriving at the Thornewood Cottage my family and I felt at home. We were greeted by Randy who told us to let him know if we needed anything. He even pointed out the baldheaded eagles to us. The pictures on the website do not do justice to this wonderful property. It was clean and very well maintained. The location is perfect, close enough to Seattle to spend the day and then return for quiet evenings. Our favorite time was drinking coffee in the early mornings and sipping a glass of wine in the evenings on the deck while watching the baldheaded eagles swoop and call to each other. It was a perfect place to stay with our 16 yr old. She didn't want to leave when the time came. I have already recommended this property to other friends. We are making plans to return again for a visit.
We had family fly from California and drive from Oregon to meet in Washington. The owner has a beautiful property, was really great to work with, and exceptionally kind. We really enjoyed out stay, and are already making plans to come back.
I recommend you bring a map of Tacoma and Seattle if you are planning to stay a while because they are both fairly close. While there we went to the Space Needle, the Seattle Underground Tour, Theo Chocolate Factory (make reservations at least a month in advance), and Pikes Place Market.
The house is close to restaurants, grocery stores (because you want to use the beautiful kitchen), and other attractions like the Tacoma Dome.
The property was very clean and well maintained. The only thing we would do different is come again in the warmer weather so we can use the beautiful lake. But, at least we had a fabulous view.
Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful home!
One of the most beautiful properties I have stayed at for the price. Great location and accomodations. The owner is easy to work with and a really great guy. I'd recommend this to anyone!
