Tahquitz River Estates House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Canyon View is the former Palm Springs residence of musician Don Tosti. Honored with a star on Palm Spring's Walk of Fame, Tosti forged a career spanning several decades and styles, from classical to jazz and rhythm and blues. He is best remembered for his big band-style compositions like the hit 'Pachuco Boogie'. Recorded in 1948, it was the first million-selling Latin song.

The house is conveniently situated just south of the village, in a tranquil neighborhood of Old Palm Springs homes and estates built in the 1930s and 1940s. Within walking distance are are many popular shops and restaurants including Koffi, El Mirasol, Davey's Hideaway and King's Highway. The property boasts expansive views of the south canyon and the peak of Mount San Jacinto, one of the tallest in Southern California.

The interior features an open plan with ample-sized rooms and high pitched, wooden planked ceilings. The floors are tiled throughout and finished with natural fiber floor coverings. Each room is appointed with a comfortable and stylish mix of original artwork, one-of-a-kind period collectables, and modern classic furnishings from the likes of Le Corbusier, George Nelson, Dorothy Draper, Harry Bertoia, and Ray and Charles Eames.

A large great room with a stone hearth and ten foot dining table opens through French doors onto the pool terrace surrounded by ficus, olive and palm trees. With a corner exposure facing east, south and west, the pool area is bathed in a warm glow and mountain views from dawn until dusk. The great room adjoins to the kitchen on one side and family room on the other. The kitchen is equipped for a serious cook, and invites gathering at the granite-topped bar and light-filled dining nook. The family room is anchored by a massive masonry fireplace and 52 inch flat screen HDTV. It opens onto a verdant and shaded rear patio with a gas grill and outdoor fireplace.

Three of the four bedrooms are located in the west wing. They all feature king size beds. The master suite is well proportioned with a large walk in closet and tiled bathroom with stall shower. The remaining two bedrooms in the wing share a hall bath with stall shower and separate tub. The fourth bedroom, tucked into the eastern corner of the house, has a queen bed and shared bathroom with stall shower.

Comforts Of Home

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay at the Park House. The pool was nice and warm upon our arrival, the house was spotless and we were shown how everything worked upon check in. Downtown was a short drive from the house with great bars, restaurants and shopping. There was a spa in the back yard and we took full advantage of that every night. The neighborhood was very safe and quiet. Much needed relaxation overall.

Great Escape

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time in the artist retreat house. We have stayed at other homes in the Palm Springs area that are quite small, this however was just the opposite. There is plenty of room both inside and out so we weren't bumping into each other. Although we ended up spending most of our time by the pool. Wonderful mountain views as well. The booking process was a breeze and appreciated the personal touch of having someone meet us at the home, give us a tour and make us feel welcome. Unlike other homes that simply give you the keys and send you on your way. Thank you for everything. We can't wait to come again.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful home for 4 nights. It was a much needed escape to be in such a spacious home that was secluded form the hustle and bustle. There was a local coffee house a few block in one direction and a great Mexican restaurant a few blocks in the other direction. We loved the openness of the interior and exterior spaces, great for entertaining and relaxing. Can't wait to come back for a longer visit.

Couples Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

What a great time! We had 4 couples, that came for a relaxing weekend of no plans other than to just hang out, many of us brought work and other things to do but not one of did it.

The only reason this received a 4 star and not a 5 star was the following: Shower in hall bathroom (2 of the bedroom had to share this one) it was extremely small and did not have option to use bath as shower. It also took a very long time to get hot water start running. Now if you asked me if I would rent here again MOST DEFIANTLY. Read on!

The moment we walked in you felt at home, very spacious with many features. Walking in the gates you are greeted to a zen like garden that gives you plenty of privacy with a beautiful shrub fence. Outdoor sitting was everywhere. Pool was just the right size, spa a little small for all 8 adults to fit so only about 6 comfortably fit. They had noodles and things to use in pool as well as plenty of beach towels and that was a big plus.

Entering the house you are taken away with an amazing dining room table that had become the hub of stay here. It was an amazing piece of furniture. Fit all 8 of us and plenty of room for 4 more if needed. The house had a very large living room (only one TV but we never turned it on) we spent most of our time playing games and eating at the dining room table. The kitchen (very clean) that was well stocked with many of the things we needed to cook. They could add: rubber spatula and a griddle pan. Note: bring your own zip locks, foil, and napkins. Paper plates too if you don’t want to wash but we used what plates where provided and it was fine.

Rooms where clean and conferrable, room to place cloths in closets and in drawers if that’s your thing. There were three rooms on one side (all w/European kings) and one (a queen) on the other side of the house. The master bedroom had a great closet; it was almost a bedroom itself. Note the beds are low to the floor but not too low.

Back yard was like a place in itself it had a BBQ (gas) and plenty of sitting too along with lighting at night.

Nick the manager was great, he asked us to call when we were about 30min out and he was there to greet us and show us around. They also provided a book that had a lot of info if we had a question and even gave information on some of the art pieces that the house had. We did need some help at one point, he responded very quickly and we were assisted. Thank you Nick!

Over all if I could give the house a 4.5 stars I would have.

Most comfortable house!

  • 5 of 5

We come to Palm Springs every year in February with a group of friends and have always stayed in a different house each time. This house, by far, felt the most like home, with its eclectic furnishings art work and tchotchkes. The kitchen was well equipped, the dining table was gorgeous and very large for our dinner party of 8 and the pool and Jacuzzi was warm and clean. Nick was great, helpful and quickly came back to the house when we were having trouble with the television, which was resolved immediately. We never left the house for 3 days as we were all so comfortable and enjoying the house. We can't wait to come back again!

Character with old Palm Springs charm.

  • 5 of 5

Great house for family gatherings. The south facing pool is the focal point of outdoor activities. This is an older house with a soul. Amazingly quiet and interesting neighborhood. Walk a mile to downtown for dinner. Easy drive to groceries at Ralph's two miles away or several restaurants within blocks. Working with the property manager Nick was a pleasure. Nick is also a contractor and Realtor so if you are house hunting you just found your person.
