Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Air conditioning cools you when the trade winds don't.....This first floor panoramic view condo has all the comforts of home and is only steps from the water's edge. Central air conditioning is a big feature of this 2 bedroom/2 bath luxury condo in the Village of Ma'alaea.

Ma'alaea is a small village that features a 5-mile white sandy beach and a small harbor that has boats to take you snorkeling, whale watching, on sunset cruises or deep sea fishing. The whales are a special treat. Relaxing on the lanai during the months of October through April, you will be entertained by the humpback whales who have returned to Maui from summering in Alaska. For the last 2 years we have all watched a mother give birth to a calf and then spend the rest of the season teaching her calf how to swim, breech and have fun. All this visible right from the lanai.

Year-round there are turtles bobbing their heads just before sunrise and you'll also see the occasional endangered monk seal sunning on the rocks in from of the condo.

This condo is fully equipped with beach chairs and towels, books to read on the beach, movies to watch while you are at home relaxing, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, a panoramic view of the ocean in front of you with Haleakala (our volcano) in the background. You'll find all the supplies you'll need such as paper towels, toilet paper, dishwasher detergent, dish detergent, garbage bags, soap...and more. There's even a washer-dryer right in the condo so you don't even have to bring many clothes with you.

Your vacation will be even more than you expected with central air conditioning. The second bedroom, if needed, has maximum privacy from the rest of the living space in the condo.

New furniture makes this the place you'll want to be on your Maui vacation.

If you don't see your dates available, email me. I have other one and two bedroom choices available.

Misleading

  • 2 of 5

First if I could give the manager 5 stars I would, however, I must review the property. We should have known something was not right when we had to put both shoulders into the front door to open it. The condo, while clean, was very dated and needed a good overhaul. The kitchen lacked so many things we were used to in other VRBO stays, we contacted the property manager who actually sent someone out to purchase missing items such as wine glasses, kettle, dish cloths, tea towels and additional dishes. There was nothing, and I mean nothing, to help prepare any kind of meal. No spices, no foil, no food containers/storage bags etc. Maui is very expensive and to outfit a kitchen for our 2 week stay of the above items would have been daunting.

The kitchen also needed an overhaul. Some of the painted kitchen cupboard doors did not close, the window blind was filthy, the tile counter grout was so dirty we used something over it to prepare our meals.

The master bedroom is an open area off the living room closed off by a screen only. It's impossible to sleep if someone is still up watching TV. The second bedroom carpet was dirty, some of the baseboards were missing and/or filthy and it generally was a depressing room. We had to use this room, however, as there was no clothes storage drawers in the master. Both bathrooms were extremely dated as well.

Now, the good things that warranted the 2 stars. The location was great, we walked to the harbor and the aquarium (which is worth a visit) and some half decent restaurants.

The view from the patio is wonderful and we saw many whales from there, however, there is an airport approach directly overhead. The furniture was comfortable, although we did not try out the second bedroom beds.

This location is great, but this condo needs a complete redo to warrant more than 2 stars. As I told the property manager, this is the first VRBO property we were truly disappointed in.

Owner's Response: Aloha, so sorry this was not a good fit for this guest. Within 2 days of notice of kitchen items lacking we bought over $500 worth of all new pots and pans, silverware, new dishes, glasses, plastic ware, kitchen tools, dish towels, etc. and sent in another cleaner to re-clean. The bedroom is adjacent to the living room as is all the master bedrooms in this building and separated by a sliding door. The benefit to this is you can lay in bed and watch the moon and stars and hear the ocean as you fall asleep. There is a TV in the living room and each bedroom and if all three are on at the same time it could be a challenge. We are thankful for the immediate feedback while the guest was there so we could remedy some items right away. Aloha, Barbara

Warren from Alaska

I had an excellent two weeks at the condo. Certainly enjoyed being right by the ocean and having the ability

to be up at 3AM and sit on the lanai enjoying the moon on the water and the lights of Kehei. Quite a change

from snow and ice at home. The condo was well appointed and had all the thing that I needed for meals

and have a generally good time. Thanks for sharing the condol

A comfortable, convenient, relaxing place to spend a vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our ground floor unit opens up to a grassy slope all the way to the water which is not suitable for swimming; but the view is great. The apartment has everything we need, a little dated, but clean and well furnished. There is no good restaurant or grocery store within walking distance; we did our shopping at the Whole Food Store in Kahalui which is close enough. The highlight of our stay was whale-watching leaving from the Pacific Whale Foundation near the condo. It was at the end of January and the humpbacks were all around us. We can certainly recommend this condo.

Best whale watching in years

  • 2 of 5

The amenities in this unit were as advertised. However, the cleaning crew could have done a much better job prior to our arrival. This unit needs a major kitchen overhaul and general maintenance done to the second bathroom. We experienced an insect invasion in all rooms which, with a 9 month only baby, left us uncomfortable throughout our stay. Without substantial improvements to the condo, better buys can be found elsewhere in this community. If it hadn't been for the spectacular display by the humpbacks our rating would have been even lower.

Owner's Response: Sorry to hear of the poor review. I manage this condo for a neighbor and my goal is for everyone to have a great time in Maui and do everything I can to make this happen. The condo was cleaned before arrival and when it didn't meet the guest's expectation, cleaning was redone the morning after arrival. No other comments about cleaning or insects were received during the stay. However, there's always room for improvement and we've reassessed and improved our cleaning ways. The kitchen and bathrooms are not granite but adequate for comfortable stays. In this first floor condo, there is a new bamboo floor in the living room, new furniture, central air. There was an additional chair for more seating delivered for the lanai and when a bathtub faucet knob cracked a new one was installed within hours. Yes, our humpbacks are spectacular. That's why I live in this building!

Just right!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed from Christmas to New Years and had a wonderful time. The condo was perfect for us - plenty of space, nice view over the water with a great lawn for yoga or tanning. Very well appointed too, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, and we grilled surf and turf by the pool one night which was great. Location is perfect for exploring the island, pretty much equidistant to Kihei, Lahaina, the airport, and an easy walk to a handful of bars, restaurants and shops (including a Maui Dive, which we found handy) at maalea. Not much negative we can say - if you are a serious jogger you probably won't find the location ideal, or a serious partier its on the quiet side. But for us it was perfect. Oh and Barbara, the proprietor, was awesome - we felt like we were staying at a friends/family members house not a vacation rental.

November 2010 Vacation--

  • 4 of 5

This was a lovely “home away from home” condo for our vacation. The kitchen was loaded with all the cooking utensils we needed and more; we ate the majority of our meals there. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. The ocean/bay and other islands could be viewed from most of the home. Mt. Haleakala is a pleasant site too ,standing at 10,023 ft above sea level.

We absolutely loved being able to walk out the sliding glass door, be on the lanai, and then step out onto the most beautifully manicured lawn! Our family spent much time visiting out on the lawn. The pool was very refreshing and clean. We enjoyed long walks on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and walks to the marina….right from the condo. It’s a quiet friendly neighborhood and we appreciated the peacefulness.

I’m thankful we had such nice accommodations and appreciated the easy communication with the rental manager.

Would I come back? YES!
