About Jackie Fenner
The Fenners reside in the Killington Vermont area and are avid skiers, snowboarders, waterskiers, wakeboarders and tennis players.
Jackie Fenner purchased this Villa in 1980
Why Jackie Fenner chose Estate Chocolate Hole and Great Cruz Bay
The Fenner matriarch and patriarch purchased land on Chocolate Hole in the late 70s after spending two weeks on a sailboat and needing some shore time and Chocolate Hole offered not only beautiful ocean views but a constant tropical windward breeze. The property has been passed on to the children and we take pride in owning such a wonderful vacation home. It has been a favorite and special place to gather with family and friends, and those who have rented it can't wait to return.
What makes this Villa unique
Poi Pu offers the luxury of a Caribbean vacation home yet the comforts home. It is situated on a hillside of tropical flowers giving way to warm tropical breezes. The wraparound deck and pool area offer total seclusion from any of the surrounding villas. A 5 minute ride into downtown Cruz Bay makes it a convenient location to restaurants and shopping.

Back and better than ever!
We just returned from our fourth trip to St. John and our fourth stay at Poi Pu. We honestly didn't know what to expect following the devastation from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but if I'm being honest... this might be my favorite vacation yet.
We found Poi Pu as beautiful as ever. Some of the vegetation in front of the house was a bit thinner, which actually increased the view down into Chocolate Hole. We enjoyed all of our favorite activities at the villa -- swinging in the hammock as we watched the sunset, cooling off in the dipping pool, having our coffee on the deck in the mornings, grilling in the evenings.
Jackie and Jeff have made some nice improvements even since our last visit. There is new tile work all throughout the main living space and they refinished the kitchen counters. There is beautiful new furniture in the living room as well, and super soft bedding with luxurious bamboo gel pillows in each bedroom. Also, all new screened doors so you can enjoy the great breezes without all the bugs. As always, the house was stocked with lots of conveniences -- fluffy beach towels, coolers, board games, and books. Jackie even sent down a box full of seasonings and spices in advance of our visit so we wouldn't have to buy them ourselves.
Throughout our visit, the property manager -- Terri Lamb -- checked on us regularly to make sure everything was going fine. It was windy while we were visiting, so she even came by several times just to skim the pool for us! On our last day, we had to return our car early in the morning even though we didn't fly out till much later in the day... meaning we would have to drag our luggage around with us all day. Terri wouldn't hear of it. She insisted on holding our bags for us while we soaked up every minute of our last day on the island, and then delivered our bags to us when we were ready to board the ferry. We're so grateful to have her as a friend and resource when we're visiting.
For those delaying a trip back to St. John -- don't. Sure, the island is still recovering, but there is plenty to do and the best beaching you could ask for. The locals were so grateful for our business and our patience as things continue to recuperate. We'll definitely be back!
First we’d like to thank you for being our first guests since our last ones, Maria and Irma! Poi Pu was fortunate in that we didn’t suffer too much damage, however even though the hurricanes hit six months ago we were extremely lucky to find the labor and the materials to do the repairs needed to get it ready for you considering some parts of the island just got power and running water back a few weeks ago! We couldn’t have made it all happen without Terri’s help, resourcefulness and due diligence. Thank you for taking such good care of Poi Pu during your stay and we’re glad you liked all the new features and special touches; we think of Poi Pu as our home away from home and hope our guests feel the same. We look forward to having you back next year!
Great April 2018 Stay at Poi Pu
We loved staying at Poi Pu last week on St. John...the island was in much better shape post-hurricane than we expected...the beaches and water were great...and the sea life is back...saw a giant eagle ray, a lemon shark, probably 10 or 12 turtles, smaller rays and tons of fish snorkeling and scuba diving. The damage can be seen in the plants in some areas more than others but was pleased to see green. Poi Pu had a great feel for my family...very relaxed and comfortable with a wonderful deck, no bugs, fresh breezes flowing throughout the house. We didn't even need to turn on the air conditioners at night...just had the windows opened and used the ceiling fans. Used the kitchen a ton and played board games every night...my littlest thanks you for Apples to Apples! A nice distance from Cruz Bay...about 5 minutes by car.
Beautiful property that felt like home for our family of 5 for the week.
From the moment we landed in St Thomas and took Red Hook to Cruz Bay, our family felt like we had returned home. 6 months post hurricanes, St John is full of life and the same beautiful souls as before. Terri met us at the car rental and took us straight to PoiPu. The house has all the comforts we need in an island home. We enjoyed looking over Chocolate Hole each night as we played games as a family on the deck. The pool and hammock made for quick spots to relax after long days of hiking and snorkeling the beautiful island. We are currently sitting at the dock sadly waiting on the ferry as I’m reminding myself and the kids that it is just “see you later”. Terri saw us off this morning and bid us safe travels. She’s a wonderful bonus to the home! See you soon, St John.
Ahoy St. John and Poi Pu Readers,
A group of friends recently visited St. John. After much research and debating we decided to stay at Poi Pu. Jackie was accommodating with our request regarding length of stay, which made us feel even more comfortable with our decision to be Poi Pu guests. There were a couple of standards that we were not familiar with when we arrived on the island. Jackie was accessible to assist. The location of the house in relation to downtown Cruz Bay is rather ideal. While it isn't necessarily walkable (the hills are "fun") it's just a short 5 minute drive making it nice to be away from the "crowds" yet have the life of the party down the road. The house came quite equipped and had all necessary amenities including beach towels, beach chairs and coolers. The outside deck is amazing wrapping around the side and back of the house, which makes for a great breeze throughout the day. There are plenty of fans to help keep the air flowing and the 2 bedrooms downstairs have A/C. We were quite anxious about those sneaky bugs so decided not to leave doors open during the day and at night when sleeping so the A/C came in handy. The house has a dipping pool and hammock although we didn't really take advantage of these features. Usual amenities such as water are borderline luxuries on the island of which you'll hear from many people so being mindful of water usage was especially encouraged.
St. John is a great relaxing vacation and felt close to home with many transplants from our state who now call St. John home. The beaches on the North Shore are amazing, which are about 15 - 20 minutes from Poi Pu. A car is definitely recommended as taking taxis is rather expensive. On the way back from the beaches you have to drive through downtown Cruz Bay so we frequented the area for happy hour and dinner.
We had a great time on St. John and look forward to another trip to explore new beaches, areas and local flavor.
Thank you for such an eloquent review of Poi Pu, Corey! I'm so happy you and your fellow travelers enjoyed our home (and too such good care of it!) and hope that if you return to St. John you will stay at Poi Pu!
Spring Break 2017
This was our 2nd stay at Poi Pu and hopefully not our last. We love the island after our first stay in 2011 for our honeymoon and wanted our 16 year old to experience the island too. We love the house, morning breakfast on the patio and love the small pool. Each day watching the lizards, sugarbirds and hummingbirds as we enjoy our surroundings. Jackie is always great to communicate with and all the amenities you need for a beach vacation. Full kitchen, grill, beach chairs and coolers. When there we picture if we ever moved to an island we'd want a house just like this one. Would absolutely stay again!!!
