About Buff Toulon

I grew up in Colorado and spent my youth skiing in Breckenridge when it was just a small resort with one mountain. My husband (native of Hawaii) and I met while at Western State College in Gunnison Colorado. We've been married for 29 years, have two grown sons and know we are very lucky to finally have a beautiful retreat in Breckenridge. We visit 3 times a year for at least 2-3 weeks, which ensures that our house is very clean and well-maintained so that our guests will have a quality experience here.

Buff Toulon purchased this house in 2001

Why Buff Toulon chose Breckenridge

Breckenridge is a place with amazing choices in skiing, but it still retains the charm of the old mining days. We believe it is the best resort in all of North America. The Double Diamond house has the perfect location to enjoy all the area has to offer. It is close to town and yet offers an incredible solitude for the times you just want to escape the madding crowd!

What makes this house unique

Views, views and more views! Southwestern exposure that offers lots of sun light while still enjoying the privacy of a wooded lot. Views from just about every room in the house and from the private hot tub. Every cent we make on the house goes back into it. Guests will enjoy brand new leather, reclining furniture, recently replaced carpeting, newly upgrade stove and oven, all appliances in excellent condition and terrific beds. Kitchen is well equipped and includes staples such as flour, sugar, rice, spices, and condiments (squeeze bottles only). We recommend checking the refrigerator before shopping for groceries. Last but not least, we have just installed a new and upgraded hot tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We intend to make this a very friendly home for all our guests as well as for ourselves and continue to make upgrades twice a year.. We welcome all your comments and will do everything we can to make this home the perfect vacation rental. Thank you. Sincerely, Buff & Pai Toulon

Idyllic setting with amazing views. Absolutely loved our stay in this cozy home overlooking the mountains. Everything was provided with consideration towards the utmost comfort of their guests; from the humidifiers in the bedroom and the sleep number beds, to the recliners overlooking the mountains and the well equipped kitchen, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! We certainly hope to return someday.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking time to write a review for us and it is always our pleasure to host such nice families. We're very glad that the recent fire near Frisco did not impact your enjoyment of the area and the house. Thank you for choosing our house for your vacation and we would love to host you and your family again, should you choose to make a second visit to this wonderful area. Buff

Beautiful view of mountains every day! Great amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Location: Great if you want an wonderful view of the mountains AND want to be closed to a super ski town that has lots of restaurants, shops, etc - all very quaint but yet modern. Frisco feels like they said, "Let there be a ski town" yesterday but Breckenridge while very developed still has a quaint feel to it. Activities: Loads for outdoor enthusiasts. We are in our 60's and have never skied so we just wanted a quiet off-season house with great views, restaurants, day trips. House: So close to town but yet a great view. Level easy driveway, streets are plowed. We had a foot to three feet of snow before we came on May 20! The house has an unusual layout in that LR,DR,Kit,Den, half bath, mud room are all on the first level and the 3 bedrooms are underneath. But 2 bedrooms have great views of the mountains and due to altitude, all rooms are very dry! We had a little problem with the dryness of the altitude since we are from the hot humid South. House has such great instructions. Two new recliners have a great view of the mountains. We played a lot of gin rummy there and the den has a gas fireplace with huge, leather couches (2) and another recliner so all the family can watch TV (had HBO, Showtime, Blueray capability, Netflix etc) Heated floors were really something we were unfamiliar with but worked great. Beds are super comfortable (I'm a stickler for beds due to back issues). Master bathroom was lovely, looks very new too. The owner was so nice and answered our concerns about the recent snow right before our visit which I really appreciated. Kitchen is well-stocked with stuff you usually don't see in a rental - flour, sugar, etc. Off the beaten track: We found something a little different for two day trips. We went to Leadville one day. If you have time and want to see a 'real' undeveloped town, you might want to see Leadville. Very historic with lots of late 1800's buildings and a great Mining Museum which was fun. Go to Fairplay which is where South Park City is - great old preserved Western town (outdoor museum). Brown Burro is THE restaurant. Drive from Breck is pretty and you will see some actual mining sites past and present. We shared a table with locals and they told us about the current gold mining that is still there. I think there is a reality TV show about it. Fun facts. Everyone was super nice to us! Being from TN, we got a laugh from a yard sign on way to Fairplay (Trespassers Will Be Shot). I've never even seen that sign in TN!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking time to write such a comprehensive review and we are always happy to hear that our guests enjoy the extras we try to add to make their vacations easier and comfortable. We try to keep condiments (squeeze bottles only) of basics like ketchup, mustard, relish, mayo in the refrigerator as well as fresh (changed out 3 times a year) flour, sugar, brown sugar, rice and spices so guests will not have to purchase these expensive items for a short visit when they may only need a small amount. Thank you, again for sharing so much information with future visitors and thank you for choosing our house when they are so many options on the market. We're glad you had a great time!

Unbelievably awesome

10/10 would recommend. Breath taking view, very clean house and plenty of space. 6 of my friends (23-24 year olds) went and had more than enough space. Labels on everything and clear instructions on how to clean the house. Awesome time

Great second stay in Breckenridge

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at the Toulon house for a second time in the past several years for a family ski trip. As with our prior review, we really enjoyed the home and our time in Breckenridge. The views are certainly awesome and the house is well-maintained, clean, and has a very functional kitchen. Of note, we did have one minor issue with the hot tub electronics. A simple email to Buff and she had a repair the following day! As owners, the Toulon family cares for their home and guests unlike most typical rentals. Thanks again for a great stay and we hope to be back soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for an awesome review and the very nice compliment about our concern and care for our guests. We want you all to enjoy the house and the area as much as we enjoy it and are happy to have returning guests who continue to find the same quality and happiness year after year. It is the really nice people who rent our home that make it possible for us to continue adding equipment and upgrading furnishings. It's especially gratifying to hear return guests continue to find the same quality and care in the house year after year. Thank you!
