About the property

3 BR 2 BAHouse With Unique Tranquil and Natural Setting

Heron Now is a comfortable bayfront home located on beautiful Apalachicola Bay, St. George Island, Florida.

The large deck offers sea breezes and a private, panoramic overlook of the bay and estuarine reserve. You have the same view from inside the house and even from the kitchen.

Heron Now has the best of both vacation worlds: the gulf coast beaches and the beautiful bayside marsh. The spacious gulf coast beach is only 1.5 blocks away via easy public access. There you can swim in the waves, fish the surf, or lounge among the sand castles. Heron Now adjoins the bayside world of the Apalachicola National Estuarine Reserve which provides one mile of undeveloped bayshore waterfront to explore by foot or boat. Bring your canoes and kayaks (or rent locally) because there is bay access. Bring your fishing gear because the bay is full of sea trout, redfish, and mullet . Bring your camera and binoculars because every hike or paddle will bring a new discovery.

Amenities:: -two queens, two twins

-TV with cable and dvd

- well stocked kitchen

-washer/dryer

-binoculars

-extensive library of birding, plant, shell, reptile, and fish guides and other naturalist topics

Activities:: George Island is a world class birding, naturalist, and fishing

destination. Experience it from the deck of Heron Now, or walk the adjoining

reserve or nearby beach, or use Heron Now as base for eco-adventures to

nearby natural features such as St George Island State Park, St. Vincent

National Wildlife Refuge, and Apalachicola National Forest.

The nearby town of Apalachicola is a Victorian fishing port which offers

upscale restaurants and walking tours of its Victorian houses. The town and

the surrounding area are featured in two National Geographic books: Guide

to Small Town Escapes and America's Hidden Corners.

Perfect and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 had a great time at Heron Now this weekend. Its not directly on the bay, but just a short walk. Its great for cast netting fish, Shoreline fishing, or taking the kids to swim on the beach side. There is public access just a short walk away. I find the beach side to be too open. This is secluded and quiet. Saw many bald eagles in the mornings while drinking coffee on the balcony. We loved it!

Most relaxing vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week at this wonderful home on St. George Island, and we're already planning our next trip there! The view of the bay from the living room and deck was amazing, and the walk to the beach took mere minutes. We fished from the pier daily, and stargazed every night. The home provided everything we needed to comfortably cook and relax for the week, and the beds and linens were excellent. The owner was accessible, and the check-in/check-out process was clearly spelled out. I highly recommend this vacation home if you're interested in exploring beautiful St. George Island!

Beautiful view even in stormy weather

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay, despite a mostly stormy week of weather. This was our 2nd stay at Heron Now. We did experience a massive number of mosquito bites, however, making the deck nearly impossible to sit out on. If the mosquitoes were sprayed away and the home had WIFI for rainy day entertainment, it would have been perfect--clean, well stocked, great location, appliances all work, etc.

Owner's Response: Nancy I am sorry to hear that the mosquitos were so bad. It is not usually like that. I suspect that the recording breaking rainfall the week before and the week during your visit is the culprit. According to the airport at Appalachicola, between June 11 and June 21, over 10 inches of rain came down . The historical average is under 1.5 inches. . The county does spray and the mosquitos should improve once the island's low areas dry up a bit. We value our repeat guests and would love a chance to entice you to come again with a repeat guest discount. Call me if you are interested.

Relaxing place off the sound.

  • 3 of 5

Has a good time had a lot of rain so we were inside alot. Bigger tv in the living room for wet days would be nice and tv in the master bed room would be a plus.

Owner's Response: I have great pride in our reviews: 44 five star and 6 four star and no reviews of less than 4. I am disappointed to receive your review of only three stars. Rainy weather certainly is not very good for enjoying the beach. But our guest book has lots of information about the indoor activities that are available such as the world class Nature Center in Eastpoint, several museums in Appalachicola(Gorrie,Raney, Maritime), art galleries in Appalachicola, a great hands on touch tank aquarium in Panacea about 40 minutes away. I cannot do much about the weather but after every departure I send out the following request for feedback about factors I can control . Did our home meet your expectations as communicated through our property listing and rental rules? Did you have any problems with the cleanliness of Heron Now? Did you have any problems with the electronics or appliances ? How would you rate the quality of sheets and towels? Did anything need repair or replacing? Would you recommend the home to a friend? If no, why not? How could we have made your experience better?  At the time of your departure I was out of country and was unable to send this off to you. I will send it off to you now and would appreciate your feedback. I can arrange for a repeat guest discount if you want to visit again and hope for a sunnier week. Just give me a call.
