Overview

East End House Rental Photos and Description

3 BR 2 BAHouse With Unique Tranquil and Natural Setting

Heron Now is a comfortable bayfront home located on beautiful Apalachicola Bay, St. George Island, Florida.

The large deck offers sea breezes and a private, panoramic overlook of the bay and estuarine reserve. You have the same view from inside the house and even from the kitchen.

Heron Now has the best of both vacation worlds: the gulf coast beaches and the beautiful bayside marsh. The spacious gulf coast beach is only 1.5 blocks away via easy public access. There you can swim in the waves, fish the surf, or lounge among the sand castles. Heron Now adjoins the bayside world of the Apalachicola National Estuarine Reserve which provides one mile of undeveloped bayshore waterfront to explore by foot or boat. Bring your canoes and kayaks (or rent locally) because there is bay access. Bring your fishing gear because the bay is full of sea trout, redfish, and mullet . Bring your camera and binoculars because every hike or paddle will bring a new discovery.

Amenities:: -two queens, two twins

-TV with cable and dvd

- kitchen with new cookware and appliances

-washer/dryer

-binoculars

-extensive library of birding, plant, shell, reptile, and fish guides and other naturalist topics

Activities:: George Island is a world class birding, naturalist, and fishing

destination. Experience it from the deck of Heron Now, or walk the adjoining

reserve or nearby beach, or use Heron Now as base for eco-adventures to

nearby natural features such as St George Island State Park, St. Vincent

National Wildlife Refuge, and Apalachicola National Forest.

The nearby town of Apalachicola is a Victorian fishing port which offers

upscale restaurants and walking tours of its Victorian houses. The town and

the surrounding area are featured in two National Geographic books: Guide

to Small Town Escapes and America's Hidden Corners.

Awesome location

  • 5 of 5

A nice and very clean house in a perfect location, if you like the nature and prefer to have some privacy during your stay. We enjoyed walking along the bay shore and watching birds from the back porch (the house has a couple of very good binoculars and a solid library, so identifying birds was fun, even though bird watching was never my hobby).

You have to walk to the beach, but the walk is very short and easy, no more than 3 minutes. The beach is beautiful and never crowded (for a really empty beach you can go to the state park at the end of the island).

I would love to visit St George Island again, and I would definitely try to stay at Heron Now when I do.

Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

Heron Now is in a great location with a beautiful view of the bay and only a 3 min walk to the Gulf beach. We enjoyed bicycling the extensive bike path and biked to the State Park, only 2.5 mi. from Heron Now. This home is well equipped for a family of 6 (we had 3 children and 3 adults)....even has binoculars for viewing heron and other birds on the bay. The wrap around deck was used frequently, especially in the evening when there is an awesome breeze and unbelievable orchestra of birds, cicadas, etc. Although the beach was enjoyable at any time, I enjoyed it most in the late afternoon/evening when it was much cooler and a great time for beach reading while the grand kids frolicked in the surf. All enjoyed their vacation on SGI!

Peaceful and secluded

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent the week at Heron Now on St George Island. The location is great, with the bay and a marsh pond less than 5 minutes walk behind the house, with an awesome view of it from the deck, and a beautiful beach about 5 minutes walk in the other direction. You do have to cross a road, which initially worried me with my kids, but it is not at all busy & wasn't even an issue.

We brought a wagon to pull our boogie boards, chairs and our canopy for the beach. You do need to bring chairs if you wish to take them to the beach. Unfortunately I didn't get the email about what was and wasn't supplied until the day of check-in and we were well into our 15 hour drive, so we stopped at the store and bought some.

We spent one day driving to Panama City (don't waste you time!) but the rest of the week we spent on the island. The park on the east end of the island has some beautiful beaches as well as bathrooms and showers, it cost us $6 for our van of 6 people to get in, but it was well worth it to see such a preserved area.

We hit a couple of restaurants and our favorites were The Beach Pit and AJ's Burgers and Subs. The ice cream place was also amazing!

Out in the ocean we used hand held nets and caught well over 20 starfish, different types of crabs, tons of sand dollars and jellyfish (we returned them all to the ocean, we just like seeing what is out there!) We also had dolphins swimming near us on three different occasions as well as sting rays. I believe there is even more sea life here than we saw at Sanibel Island last summer, although the shells are minimal.

Also, right across the bridge in Eastpoint there is a nature center that is free and really a gem! I highly recommend going there for an hour or so.

I already miss SGI and I've only been home for three days...

Awesome Second Stay!!

This was our second year staying at the Heron Now. Perfect house for a family of four. The house is clean and well maintained. We love the short walk to the beach and bay. Highly recommend Heron Now. Our family hopes to return again next year!
