Heron Now is a comfortable bayfront home located on beautiful Apalachicola Bay, St. George Island, Florida.
The large deck offers sea breezes and a private, panoramic overlook of the bay and estuarine reserve. You have the same view from inside the house and even from the kitchen.
Heron Now has the best of both vacation worlds: the gulf coast beaches and the beautiful bayside marsh. The spacious gulf coast beach is only 1.5 blocks away via easy public access. There you can swim in the waves, fish the surf, or lounge among the sand castles. Heron Now adjoins the bayside world of the Apalachicola National Estuarine Reserve which provides one mile of undeveloped bayshore waterfront to explore by foot or boat. Bring your canoes and kayaks (or rent locally) because there is bay access. Bring your fishing gear because the bay is full of sea trout, redfish, and mullet . Bring your camera and binoculars because every hike or paddle will bring a new discovery.
Amenities:: -two queens, two twins

destination. Experience it from the deck of Heron Now, or walk the adjoining
reserve or nearby beach, or use Heron Now as base for eco-adventures to
nearby natural features such as St George Island State Park, St. Vincent
National Wildlife Refuge, and Apalachicola National Forest.
The nearby town of Apalachicola is a Victorian fishing port which offers
upscale restaurants and walking tours of its Victorian houses. The town and
the surrounding area are featured in two National Geographic books: Guide
to Small Town Escapes and America's Hidden Corners.
Nice stand- alone St. George Island home. Plenty of room with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Nice, quiet bay side location on a quiet street. Very nice views off the deck...saw an eagle, osprey and herons. We visited during the off season (December) so it was very quiet. Not exactly beach weather but we did a lot of exploring including hikes in the Appalachicola National Forest and Tate's Hell State Forest (saw a black bear there), a visit to the nearby estuary nature center, and visits to some historical sites.
Which makes it an EASY decision to return! , breaking a tradition for us since we have often returned to the same locale , but never to the same rental. Heron Now boasts the perfect location on SGI, half-way between the ever-changing bay and the seemingly never-changing gulf. Comfortable furnishings and a décor which blended perfectly with the natural setting outside, Heron Now even had comfortable bedding which was important to old-timers such as ourselves. Since no mention was made of this in the house description, we were pleasantly surprised by the large wrought iron table on the deck, from which we ate, played games and enjoyed the binoculars. We are geocachers and took advantage of this activity in Apalacacola and in the state park on SGI, where treasures were hidden by the rangers themselves. We also enjoyed the fireplace every evening of our stay, making it seem like we were in the mountains, with a beautiful bay view. For eating out we recommend the Owl(shrimp and grits), Tamaras (duck tacos), and the Blue Parrot to enjoy sunset and a really good crab sandwich. We would have given this house SIX STARS with wi-fi access , and perhaps two lounge chairs on the wonderful deck to replace two of the gardens chairs. We would invite anyone to come experience SGI and live in the HERE-on-Now for a time.
When our daughter walked out on the deck her first words were, "This place is so us", and so it was. The view of the marshes and bay was worth the price. We spent a lot of time on the deck, down at the water trying to fish, and searching for those bald eagles we saw the first day. The space was very clean and comfortable in the living and sleeping areas. The kitchen though small was adequate to prepare various dishes for Thanksgiving and I really appreciated the space-saving cabinetry. The guide book and games were a big hit we enjoyed many very competitive games at night.
We saw the canoe and kayaks downstairs and if we had more time we definitely would have been calling to see if they were available for use, but since we had a family reunion on the island there wasn't much spare time. Enjoyed the short walk to the beach in the evenings and mornings. Several of my family members came over to see us and they all loved the place too. My husband and I are already talking about renting for a month sometime because it is such a special place. Thanks for a wonderful island experience, a good time was had by all.
Had a very peaceful visit... the bike ride to town and back is lovely. Riding under the Milky Way at night the best. The short walk to the beach is just right. I'll be back.
A nice and very clean house in a perfect location, if you like the nature and prefer to have some privacy during your stay. We enjoyed walking along the bay shore and watching birds from the back porch (the house has a couple of very good binoculars and a solid library, so identifying birds was fun, even though bird watching was never my hobby).
You have to walk to the beach, but the walk is very short and easy, no more than 3 minutes. The beach is beautiful and never crowded (for a really empty beach you can go to the state park at the end of the island).
I would love to visit St George Island again, and I would definitely try to stay at Heron Now when I do.
