Nestled in the Heart of the Northwoods of Wisconsin this Four season Chalet is located on the East shore of beautiful Lake Metonga. Just two miles from the City of Crandon and across the road from the new Wolf River Multi use Trail (Hiking, Biking, ATVing and Snowmobiling).
Crandon is a charming town offering Restaurants, Antique Shops, Gift and Clothing Shops, and Historical Museum. Summer in Crandon offers many events, including Kentucky Days, Art in the Square, and the World Famous Brush Run Off Road Racing. We are situated 15 miles away from the 18 hole Nicolet Country Club Golf course, and six and twenty miles from Mole Lake Casino and Potawatomi Casino at Carter.
Whether you are looking for an active vacation, or just want to kick back and relax, The Peterson Bay Chalet is the place to be. Included in your rental is the use of a Paddle Boat, Canoe, Sail Boat, Bikes,Kayaks, Windsurfers and Row Boat. A 14ft. fishing boat with a 9.9H.P. is available for rent. There is also dockage at the pier if you bring your own boat. The Wildlife viewing is abundant from our Hammock Deck at the Water. You can watch the Eagles soar overhead while looking for fish.
Our family of Loons will serenade you late into the night, and if you are lucky you might spy a Otter or a Muskrat swimming past the pier. A Campfire, a game of Horseshoes and S'mores is a great way to end the day.
Winter at the Chalet offers a multitude of activities. The Ice Fishing is great, or if Cross Country Skiing is your sport we have three miles of private groomed trails at our back door. Otter Springs, Eds Lake and Hemlock Lake Trails are all within ten miles. Forest County has some of the best snowmobiling in the Northwoods. These trails are also accessible out our back door. Snowshoeing has unlimited access from our property.
We loved the Mueller's stone cottage on Lake Metonga. The architecture was unique and it was set back from the their home so we really felt like it' was our own home away from home. Chris and Gary are gracious hosts who encouraged our use of their dock and all their water toys including their kayaks and canoe. We definitely plan to return.
My husband and I rented the Peterson Bay Chalet with a friend for a long weekend, while we attended a wedding nearby. The house was wonderful and had everything we needed-fully-stocked kitchen, linens, a grill, a deck where we could eat and enjoy the sunset, etc. We took advantage of the paddle boat and also enjoyed the hammock and the chairs on the dock, where you can enjoy the beautiful views of the lake. Our hosts were as nice as can be and had lots of helpful suggestions for local places to eat, driving directions, nearby hiking trails, etc. It was a fantastic trip and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing lakeside vacation!
Our family of four just returned from a stay at Peterson Bay and we're already planning to return! The house is a comfortable combination of rustic and modern with plenty of space and lots of character. Eagles welcomed us and kept us company, loons serenaded us, and an otter cruised by without a care. The enduring "house guests" including an otter, a bear , a fox, a trukey, and a couple of pheasants are unique and, thankfully, quiet. We were able to relax, exercise, eat, drink, sit and talk, and, yes, relax (lots of relaxing) in a near-perfect setting.
A serene, yet envigorating, pontoon ride with our host Gary capped off our stay. Gary and Chris are terrific hosts - their home is only a few yards away, but they gave us all the space we wanted. Given all the things this couple does to promote the Crandon community, and their youthful energy, there's no doubt they had something to do with the beautiful weather during our stay.
Perhaps the greatest compliment we can offer about the Chalet at Peterson Bay is: please don't tell anyone about this place, we'd like it all to ourselves.
This chalet is absolutely beautiful, clean and wonderfully decorated. Right out of a catalog. Our GPS kept directing us to the northern tip of the lake with this address, so keep in mind this property is on the south east side of the lake, look out for the two red gravel drives. The chalet sits on the same property as the owner's home with shared lake access, Fite pit, water toys, etc. Owners were very friendly and encouraged us to use the property.
Kitchen is well stocked and fully functional. This chalet is designed with 3/4 high walls INSIDE (walls don't go all the way up to separate rooms) so sound from all areas (including bathroom), travels easily. Wouldn't want to share it with strangers haha! We appreciated the WiFi, but weren't able to get any phone service even when logged into it. No big deal.
We had a great time kayaking around the lake, sitting out on the dock, and watching the loons and Eagles. Lake water is crystal clear but the property is in a bay with reedy waters so we kayaked out to the sand bars to swim. Very peaceful area, but also close to grocery store and town. Overall a wonderful vacation spot!
A wonderful cozy place to stay! Immaculate in every way! Gary and Chris were wonderful! This was our first time using vrbo, and this was a pleasant wonderful suprise. We went for our 5 year wedding anniversary wanting a relaxing low key weekend and received that and more. Already planning our next trip here over the summer with our children!
We usually do theme parks and big cities for our family vacation, so this year we decided to do something different. We chose Peterson Bay Chalet for our first "Unplugged Week," and it was perfect in every way. The kids didn't miss their devices at all, and they declared it our best vacation family vacation ever (and that includes a week at Disney World)! We had a wonderful week full of memories, all for the price of a couple of days at a noisy theme park. Our first full day was rainy, so we traveled to the Three Lakes Winery and Eagle River to do some shopping. That night, we used the cloth napkins, placemats, and candles that we found in the kitchen and cooked ourselves a "fancy" spaghetti dinner. The kids got a big kick out of it! The rest of the week was beautiful, so we fished, swam, and kayaked from morning to night. We loved having access to the kayaks, paddle boat, paddle board, and row boat. The water was fairly clear and the kids swam right off the dock. Our son loves fishing, and he spent every morning and evening fishing from the dock and would take a break for swimming and boating in the afternoons when the fish weren't biting. I'm not into camping or "roughing it", so I was relieved to find the cabin itself was beautiful, clean, and stocked with everything we needed. Gary & Chris were great hosts, offering just the right mix of hospitality and privacy. We enjoyed a peaceful pontoon ride with them on our last night, spotting eagles and hearing their Lake Metonga stories. We can't wait to come back!
