Hello Ariel, we arrived yesterday from San Miguel de Allende. We had a great time at San Miguel, your house is beautiful and we loved it.
Thank you for everything, hope we get in touch soon.
My best wishes, Lizbeth
Our month-long stay at Casa Ariel was a major disappointment. We arrived very late around 11 PM to an extremely dark house with no lights on to welcome us. It was very difficult to negotiate several steps in complete darkness. Upon opening the door the house had a really strong smell of gas along with mold. Apparently the pilot light to the gas fireplace been left on. We opened all the windows and doors to air it out. We communicated both by phone and email to Ariel regarding the gas/mold smell and she was concerned too. After about 3 days Juan ,the gardener, showed us how to work the gas fireplace and where to turn off the pilot light.. The mold smell came from under the sink. We learned through Pilar, the manager that a couple of months prior, there had been a water leak behind the kitchen sink. Amada, the maid cleaned under the sink but most likely the mold odor was from mold growing behind the wall because the mold odor never went away.
We were looking forward to sitting outside and on the roof top areas but the patio area was really not inviting. There were 2 iron chaise lounge chairs. One had no cushion at all while the other was old and worn out. The roof top patio was small and when sitting on a chair, all you could view was a depressing wall. If you stood up there was a pretty view, but it was not at all conducive to sitting. There were no plants and very barren looking.
Since we were staying for a month we were hoping to unpack completely, but the 2nd bedroom had no dresser. We emailed Ariel our concerns about lack of a dresser or chest, coupled with requesting cushions for the chaise lounges. Ariel was quick to respond that our suggestions were good ones. She went on to say that she had asked Pilar the manager to get new cushions along with putting more plants in the garden, new towels, and cups prior to our arrival. We requested a week’s refund for compensation. She refunded $300.00 for what she named ‘the inconvenience’.
We never received the cushions nor any of the promised updates to make our stay more comfortable. We never got to use the patio. Since there were no cushions. Most visitors to San Miquel want to enjoy the beautiful gardens and patios that most homes provide. If that is your priority we cannot recommend Casa Ariel.
This house is situated in a quiet part of town just a few minutes walk from the Rosewood hotel and 15 minutes from the center of town. The beautiful gated walkway leading up to the home from the street was our first of many surprises. The varied common spaces both in and out were perfect for our family of 4; the roof deck was especially useful for NYE fireworks! Amada the housekeeper helped plan and prepare a delicious meal for us one evening -- a great option when spending time in SMDA. Although we did not meet Pilar, she was incredibly responsive by e-mail and lives locally should you need to meet with her directly.
Thank you Airel for offering your home!
We spent a week here for a wedding this Spring, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We couldn’t believe how beautiful and private this casa is, and it offers so much more than a hotel room. The Mexican art and tile-work is fabulous--the stained glass, furnishings and décor are colorful and the gardens and bougainvillea were lush and in full bloom! The photos do NOT do it justice! Very convenient to have the washer/dryer on site, too.
The housekeeper, Amada, was friendly and so helpful. She not only helped us prepare food on occasion, but also frequently helped us with the map as we used our beginner level Spanish to ask her about how to get around town. So patient!
We were able to host a nephew and his daughter in the casita-they had privacy but also were close-by for impromptu gatherings in the cozy living room or large kitchen, on the patio, or on the rooftop for views of the city.
We were able to walk to town, or catch a taxi, or take the 5p bus with the locals. We highly recommend Fernando Ibarra for transportation needs. He is an excellent driver who became our friend/Spanish tutor on the various trips we took using his services. He is a former teacher and has a wealth of history that he is happy to share- a lovely man!
We hope to someday return to SMA and would love to stay at Casa Ariel again. Thanks, Ariel, for sharing this little piece of Paradise! Muchas gracias a Amada y Fernando!
Good property and location. Amada the housekeeper was a nice lady. We enjoyed our stay at the property. Neighborhood is quiet and near the main plaza. We didnt met pilar the property manager but we had no problems with the house. My mother and the whole family had a great experience in San Miguel. I would recommend Fernando Ibarra for any tour or transportation required. I would stay again on this property.
When we walked through the iron gate at the entry of this property, we were in paradise! The property is spacious and beautiful. We spent nearly all of our time on the patio and the kitchen. The kitchen/dining area is well equipped and is well laid out. The bedrooms are well sized and comfortable. Amada, the housekeeper, was very friendly and did an excellent job of taking care of us. We arranged to have her cook dinner for us one evening, and it was fantastic. The property manager was extremely helpful.
The property is separated from bustle of the town, and it is a nice walk to city center. There are small grocery stores and fruit/veggie stands near by. Short walks to restaurants and coffee shops. We are looking forward to our next visit to this property!
We Stayed in the home for a long weekend in November. It was a little difficult to find but be patient, it is worth it.
I think the house was nicer than it looked. It was as descibed plus. It was clean and well maintained. It has a great layout that offers privacy for all.
We will be back and have already sent the VRBO number to friends. Thanks for a great stay in our favorite town, "San Miguel de Allende"
