A delightful stay.
What a lovely property this is. My family spent a wonderful month here, at the end of which my kids did not want to leave. The long corridor from the front gate to the house is gorgeous, and makes for a pleasure of a walk at each coming and going. The patio and gardens are a constant draw, the kitchen is spacious and functional -- and well-windowed. The little rooftop allows for a birds-eye view of the neighborhood. As to the neighborhood: San Antonio is a pleasant area with access to a lot within a short walk. Within just a few blocks are little groceries, tortillerias, evening tacos (Tio Carlos!), bakeries, and a number of other vendors and establishments. An enjoyable component of the stay was the walks to purchase each day’s necessities. Honorable mention to the Buonforno Italian bakery on Sterling Dickinson. (A daily necessity!)
The street on which the house is located seems to be in a process of gentrification; a fair amount of updating and construction going on—though there remains a pleasantly wide variation in condition in the neighborhood. Josefina’s school on Orizaba is about a 5 minute walk from the house, and is an excellent place to study the language, with programs for children and adults. The walk to the city center is enjoyable and not at all prohibitive, while the distance from its evening noise is welcome. (Though in San Antonio you still will be treated to the local church bells, barking dogs, and ever-present booms of fireworks.)
As to the house management: Pilar was admirably prompt in responding to each of our communications and in addressing our requests. Estela the housekeeper was so kind and sweet, and did such a wonderful job, we were sad to be parting from her at the end of our stay. We are thankful for the opportunity to have enjoyed this delightful property and its vicinity.
Thank you so much Jeff for your kind and thoughtful review! I will certainly let Pilar and Estela know of all your positive comments.
You and your family are delightful and we welcome you back to Casa Ariel in the future. Warm regards .... Ariel
Nice and spacious home in beautiful San Miguel de Allende.
Our experience was a mixed bag. The booking went very well, and the owner communicated in a timely and friendly manner. The house was beautiful and spacious, as promised. And we generally very much enjoyed our stay. We did have two issues we felt were significant and that definitely took away from the experience. First, after the initial confirmation, we never heard from anyone again. And this was despite being told we would receive follow up communications and additional instructions and confirmations at the time of our stay. We did not receive any responses to our many emails and phone calls, which became more urgent as we got closer and did not hear anything. We had to just show up hoping the house was ready. Unfortunately, it was not. We finally got ahold of someone the morning after we arrived, and they did not even have record of us. Obviously, this was ridiculous and terrible. The staff did work hard and did a great job after hearing from us, but it did not erase what happened. Second, the fireplace in the living room has a gas leak. We had to sleep with the windows open the entire time. This was fine but for the two nights that almost dropped to freezing. Those nights were terrible. We complained of the gas and were simply assured nothing was wrong. This was totally ridiculous and unsafe.
This has never happened before. All my guests receive a detailed Welcome Letter and last minute instructions. I never received any emails from this guest. There must have been a mix up here. My phone is listed. I wish they had followed up with a call to me. I certainly apologize for this . There must have been some slip up with the correct email. I certainly will have all my repairmen look into the gas situation.
Beautiful home with plenty of room
Arrived early on Friday for a quick weekend stay and was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the home and property was. Estela the housekeeper was awesome and came to clean on Saturday for us and pilar the pm was prompt in responding when I thought we were locked out one day. All in all a great place to stay with excellent customer service.
So happy you enjoyed yourselves!
You will always be welcomed guests at Casa Ariel.
Great Value Experience/Cost.
Had a great time and the house was a great part of our enjoyment. It sits on a quiet street a 15 minute walk from the main plaza, but at the same time you have a fully stocked market a blacksmith a carpenter (not that you need one) a taco stand and two restaurants inside 50 yards. I would definitely visit again.
Thank you Guerra family! You were wonderful guests. Please come back anytime.
We had a few issues when we first arrived, but they were addressed promptly and kindly. The house is lovely! Lots of comfortable space, beautiful tiles throughout, wonderful pottery dishware and serving wear, much from Dolores Hidalgo! We enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice each morning from a little market around the corner and fresh torillas near the market. We hope to return!
Thank you Lisa.... please return as soon as you would like!
House is adequate, patio and outside terrace is not!!!!!
Our month-long stay at Casa Ariel was a major disappointment. We arrived very late around 11 PM to an extremely dark house with no lights on to welcome us. It was very difficult to negotiate several steps in complete darkness. Upon opening the door the house had a really strong smell of gas along with mold. Apparently the pilot light to the gas fireplace been left on. We opened all the windows and doors to air it out. We communicated both by phone and email to Ariel regarding the gas/mold smell and she was concerned too. After about 3 days Juan ,the gardener, showed us how to work the gas fireplace and where to turn off the pilot light.. The mold smell came from under the sink. We learned through Pilar, the manager that a couple of months prior, there had been a water leak behind the kitchen sink. Amada, the maid cleaned under the sink but most likely the mold odor was from mold growing behind the wall because the mold odor never went away.
We were looking forward to sitting outside and on the roof top areas but the patio area was really not inviting. There were 2 iron chaise lounge chairs. One had no cushion at all while the other was old and worn out. The roof top patio was small and when sitting on a chair, all you could view was a depressing wall. If you stood up there was a pretty view, but it was not at all conducive to sitting. There were no plants and very barren looking.
Since we were staying for a month we were hoping to unpack completely, but the 2nd bedroom had no dresser. We emailed Ariel our concerns about lack of a dresser or chest, coupled with requesting cushions for the chaise lounges. Ariel was quick to respond that our suggestions were good ones. She went on to say that she had asked Pilar the manager to get new cushions along with putting more plants in the garden, new towels, and cups prior to our arrival. We requested a week’s refund for compensation. She refunded $300.00 for what she named ‘the inconvenience’.
We never received the cushions nor any of the promised updates to make our stay more comfortable. We never got to use the patio. Since there were no cushions. Most visitors to San Miquel want to enjoy the beautiful gardens and patios that most homes provide. If that is your priority we cannot recommend Casa Ariel.
