About Jan O'Flaherty for Casa de Perla Bookings
Currently we live in a small town in British Columbia, Canada called Christina Lake. We used to own a Vacation Rental business, so we know what it takes to provide a comfortable well equipped vacation property. In 2008, our first grandchild, Pearl was born, now 9 years old she is one of the biggest joys in our lives! Well before she was born we were already envisioning family vacations away to Mexico and looking forward to watching her grow up routinely visiting the amazing town of Loreto. She will probably speak more fluent Spanish than us!
Jan O'Flaherty for Casa de Perla Bookings purchased this House in 2009
Why Jan O'Flaherty for Casa de Perla Bookings chose Loreto
We discovered Loreto in 2006, while vacationing with friends. We loved the authentic Mexican feel and friendly inviting local warmth. We enjoy walking down town almost unable to carry on a conversation for having to return Hola and Buenas Diaz from the locals we passed by. Not only is the town delightful and charming, but the surrounding areas offered us amazing activities and places to explore as well. We were forever changed by the marvelous hiking, gorgeous white sand beaches, remarkable missions, and stunning desert and mountains. Since our first trip there we have kayaked to national geographic worthy beaches, experienced the excitement of deep sea fishing & scuba diving, and toured to incredible uninhabited islands. The flavor of the town drew us in with its’ quaint shops, great restaurants with reasonable prices, and walking around the little town into in the evening, and seeing firsthand the Mexican culture and celebrations. Back in Canada, we live in one of the most beautiful areas of the world, but we absolutely fell in love with vacationing in Loreto.
What makes this House unique
After staying in many different locations while building, we especially appreciate how comfortable and well equipped Casa de Perla is with comfy beds and good quality cotton linens. The fridge is fed with purified water which is a real bonus. Every trip to Loreto we discover more. Last trip we found a great grocery store only a couple of minutes walk away and 'Zumba' classes that are only 5 minutes away. We walk to town or the Malecon a few times every day and always seem to pass by the ice cream store. The locals remember us from visit to visit and always give a warm welcome which is so special.

Good place but had a problem with the owner
Most things were good about our stay at this property. It was clean and we enjoyed the location and the layout of the house. The local manager was responsive and friendly. However , it is now 2 months since we checked out and we have yet to receive our refundable damage deposit . We did everything that was asked of us, including cleaning the house before we left and mailing the key back promptly. When I didn't receive my damage deposit back, I contacted the owner 3 times. She said she would look into it , that VRBO was responsible for issuing the refund, and that she would get back to me. When I didn't hear back from her, I contacted her 2 more times and had no response. After a month, I contacted VRBO. They said that it was the owner's responsibility to issue a refund and that they did not mediate disputes. It's frustrating to say the least. We left the house clean and didn't cause any damage whatsoever. We paid a good chunk of money for our 21 day stay. I expect to receive my damage deposit back in a timely manner.
I am frustrated that VRBO/ Homeaway is set up to collect the rent, but not to help when there is a problem.
Great property, everything you need! Great location, very safe.
This is our 2nd stay and we'll be back. This home has everything to make your vacation fun and relaxing. The washer and dryer are a nice bonus, (you can pack less), it's nice to bring clean clothes home too! Fantastic location, close to the beach and shopping. Jan is very responsive and friendly.
The home is lovely and fairly close to the main downtown area, about a 10 minute walk. The floor plan is a bit odd, as you will need to go outside to use the 3rd floor bedroom. This is clearly stated in the description and it does allow for a wonderful view from the top floor. We had a couple of issues that would have improved our stay. The 3rd floor bedroom smelled very strongly of sewer gases. I texted the owner with no reply, maybe it didn't get to her? We suspect that the venting had an issue, whatever the case, it needs to be remedied. It was almost unbearable and not sure it is healthy to tolerate. The keys did not arrive prior to our leaving (I noticed that the owner did mail them from Canada a full two weeks prior), but that was remedied by the house keeper leaving a spare key at the home. The washer and dryer are on their last leg, the washer does not spin out well (requiring that you hang things outside to help them dry in a reasonable time) and the dryer door handle is barely hanging on. They need to be repaired or replaced. The house keeper could have done a better job. The floors were dirty, the water jugs were not refilled as required by the owner, the laundry soap barely had enough in it. We did launder all the sheets and towels prior to leaving. The house manager/cleaner was not real responsive to our texts and did not answer when we called, she did follow up within a couple of days. We tried texting first as the owner asked since she has small children at home. The patio security door off of the kitchen does not lock (the sliding glass door did) and it is very clear that all security doors should be locked while you are away or in the evenings. We did feel safe without it. All in all, this is a very nice home but needs some attention from the owners to warrant the cost to stay there.
Great spot on the edge of town.
Perfect place to relax or to be very active. The accommodation is excellent - very clean, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen, everything you could need. Both deck off the kitchen and upper deck are perfect for eating and lounging. Jan is very responsive and helpful with local information. It’s north of the town centre (15- minute walk) close enough to get to but far enough away that you are in a local neighbourhood with only the Desert Inn across the street to remind you that there might be tourists around. Close to the beach. We’ll go again.
Jan and Dan were awesome hosts, and their home worked well for two fishing buddies.
Beautiful home with everything you need, Loreto is a great town
The home is well equipped, very clean and great location, owners are very responsive
Loreto is a beautiful town nestled between the Sea of Cortez and the La Giganta mountains in Baja California Sur. In 2012 it was designated as pueblo magico (little magic town) by the Mexican government. The off shore islands are designated national marine park, environmentally protected with no private property and so many amazing things to explore.
