We rented the whole house for 13 days in 2016. Loved it! Access to beach can't be beat. My grandchildren (12, 10, 17, 2) played in the waves for hours. At high tide we had to be careful with the 2-year-old, but at low tide it was perfect. The house had plenty of room and was well stocked and well maintained. Here are a few improvements/suggestions I would have for the owner/management. The yard was somewhat messy when we arrived and since first impressions can't be redone, a little more care could have been paid to it. There were no screens in two of the windows upstairs and two of the fans didn't work on high (important when there's no air conditioning). This ad lists a small cooler. There isn't one. The trash and recycling bins were both full. Maggots in the trash can! We arrived on the afternoon of trash day, so we had to store trash in the garage for a full week. Found two blowup beds and neither was usable (no pump, holes). Master bedroom TV never would advance past the setup screen (two techies with us had no luck). Wish there was a vacuum for sand. Picking up and returning keys (a 45 min drive) was a hassle. Need a keypad or keybox. Charges a fee to put balance on credit card. In the positive column, futon mattress is thick and I think even an adult would be comfortable on it. When the downstairs needed a new bedside lamp, the management company got one quickly. My daughter bought a baby gate for the top of the stairs and we left it there for others to use. Don't think I would rent the downstairs if strangers were renting upstairs. You can hear every footstep downstairs. Location is great with shopping and attractions close. Had to go to Tamura's Market for liquor. None to be found in Laie (Mormon town). We love North Shore Tacos, Seven Brothers (both of them), Giovanni's, Lulu's (in Honolulu). Spent a day at Kuilima Cove at Turtle Bay. Expensive drinks and food, but good and nice to have access to. Good snorkeling (we snorkeled a lot at the house, too. Bring your own stuff. Equipment at the house is very limited). Went on helicopter rides with Paradise Helicopters at Turtle Bay. Everyone that went thought it was amazing! Rented SUPs from Uncle Bryan's in Haleiwa and paddleboarded with sea turtles. Visited Polynesian Cultural Center. Buffet food lacking but Ha' show wonderful. The ice cream shop in Laie Center has the real Dole Pineapple Whip! Would rent this house again in a heartbeat!
We had an absolutely fantastic stay in this Laie Palms house. We rented it for two weeks and stayed on the second floor - the 3BR/2BA area. It was very clean and everything that was needed for a comfortable stay was there. The one thing we did not expect and that was not mentioned in any of the reviews was the wind. It was rather strong and every time that we climbed the stairs to the second floor we immediately felt it. But actually it was very nice and very refreshing especially when we were returning from the other beaches where it felt very hot.
We started every morning with a walk along the people-free beach (well, sometimes you can see a person or two or even four on a weekend) and then swam in front of the house before the breakfast. The ocean was all ours, nobody else to share it with. Actually one can spend the whole day in front of the house just seating on the beach and swimming (it is possible to snorkel there two, but there were just a couple or two of different fish).
The location of the house is really fantastic. First, it is right on the beach. Second - it is very close to a lot of excellent snorkeling places (Turtle bay, Shark cove and Three tables - are all perfect places for snorkeling. They are free and there are tons of different exotic fish. I even swam with a couple of turtles there). Third, it is very close to supermarkets (Foodland and Tamura's). Fourth, there are a lot of good places to eat if one does not want to cook and if one wants to cook fresh fish is available every Thursday opposite the Foodland in Waimea.
Just a couple more things about the owner. Janet was very accommodating while we were arranging our stay with different people coming at different time. And when at the end of the stay there was an issue with a power interruption she helped to handle it in an extremely gracious way.
Janet, thank you very much for your house and for everything else! it was a great stay and we unquestionably recommend the place to everyone who wants to have a great vacation on Oahu.
We love Laie Palms!
This was our second stay at Laie Palms. In November, 2013, we rented the whole house for ten days. It was perfect for our family of ten. Lots of room for everyone, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen. The best part was the location, it can't be beat. Right on the most beautiful beach. Most days we had the whole beach to ourselves! Everyone swam--it was great for our little grand kids aged two and five. There were blue bottles for the last couple of days--but once we knew they were there, we didn't get inthe water. We spent time on lots of other beaches--Turtle Bay and Sunset were two of our favourites.
Our most recent stay was a girl's trip. We had the whole main floor for just three of us--we felt kind of guilty having all that room (not really!) it was great--the first time in over 30 years that my sister and I spent time together in Hawaii. We spent lots of time on the beach, it was nice having beach chairs, snorkels, towels--everything we needed there for our use. Groceries and yummy food is close by. We loved Ted's Bakery and the Kahuku Grill.
Can't wait to return--wouldn't change a thing. Thanks, Janet for sharing your wonderful house with us.
Great location, roomy home with fabulous beach
We rented the whole house. The location is fantastic. Quite, with a great swimming beach in front. We swam each morning with no one in the water near us. The beach right in front is really calm and nice enough for snorkeling or kayaking, which we did. To the left of the house, you can walk to Pounders Beach for body surfing/boogie boarding, or take little ones to Bathtub beach which is protected by reef and very shallow. It was easy enough to jump in the car each day and head to Sunset, Pipeline or Haleiwa. Grocery store is walking distance. We cooked dinner at home many nights. The town is a Mormon town so it can be difficult to find wine in the grocery stores. Also, for those of you looking for good coffee, Haleiwa is your best bet. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen had plenty of items stocked in, and you can eat outside on the patio table or inside overlooking the ocean. Wonderful home to spend time in. We also called a local company which delivered a paddle board, cooler, snorkeling gear, and kayak for us to use for the week for rates that were unbelievably low. We used the kayak in front of the house each day, and had the cooler ready for picnics at the beach when trekking out to surf elsewhere.
The only downside is that the home could use some updating. However, you quickly forget all of that after one day there in your ocean paradise.
Overall, a delightful home with everything you need in a great location.
We stayed in the upstairs unit (6 of us) and it was PERFECT! This is a little piece of heaven. Unbelievable ocean views! It is very clean and secluded. The kitchen is very well stocked. The location could not have been more perfect for us as we were visiting our daughter at BYUH. The private beach is steps away from the house making it super easy for our kids to be out there all the time without worry. We could see and hear them from the kitchen and living room. Our kids range from age 20 to 10. We will definitely stay here again! Thank you so much for a perfect vacation!
