I originally was attracted to the area in 1974 and have owned and developed land here since then. I love the protected bay, the Catalina islands 5 miles out, and the almost deserted beaches nearby. The spectacular sunset views are what really attracted me to this 90 acre hillside property minutes away form the beach. The little village nearby has most everything and Flamingo on the other side of the bay has the Casino, night clubs, tourists, banks and other services.
Roy Benard purchased this cottage in 2009
Actually I built this home 10 years ago on property that I have owned since 1974. This piece of land is right on a ridge and not only has a great ocean view it has a mountain view and great breezes almost all the time. On the night of the full moon you can watch the sunset on the ocean and then turn 180 degrees and watch the full moon rising shortly after. There are almost magical sunsets all year around , great reflections on the water from this vantage point 100 meters up and 500 meters back from the beach. The beaches are not crowded and if one hikes or drives a few miles you can sometime get a beach to yourself.
I enjoy the dry tropical climate of this coastal area. After exploring all of Costa Rica I realized the humid areas were too humid , too rainy, and full of bugs. This area has way less insects, less snakes, and less humidity and rain then anywhere in the country. Just a fan or a breeze keeps one comfortable due to the drier air. Temperatures hover between 73 to 93 degrees all year around , and the ocean is about 80 degrees F, nice and comfortable . There are so many activities that I have listed above and some of the other attractions are only an hour or two away. COSTA RICA HAS 25% OF ITS LAND EITHER IN NATURE PRESERVES OR NATIONAL PARKS. I love photography , this is a photographers and an artists dream.
This was a wonderful little place to get away from the stresses of everyday life. My family and I spent 2 weeks here in February and loved every minute of it. We were a short walk from an almost private beach, with amazing waves and great swimming and the view from the back yards was breathtaking. The place it’s self was very clean and comfortable, with reliable hot water and internet. It felt like you were all alone in paradise with all the creature comforts one could want with just a short walk into town if you needed something. The only problem I have with writing a good review is that other people will want to stay there and the property will be booked the next time I go.
“I have just had a fabulous getaway at Loma Del Sol and would highly recommend it. I have felt taken care of from the moment I first made contact with Roy. Everything is just how he describes it on his website, particularly the warmth and hospitality offered by the gentle people of Costa Rica. Everyone-the neighbours, the maid, Roy, even people passing on the street were friendly and helpful. Travelling alone and without a car was not a problem. I couldn’t possibly do everything Roy suggested so I will definitely be back. I already miss my morning walk to the most beautiful beach and swimming in the warm clear water. My highlight was going on the Lazy Lizard sunset sail that Roy recommended. And then after a day of tourist activities, I appreciated coming home to my little cottage away from it all.”
My boyfrind and I stayed 5 nights in this charming little casa.
It was perfect.
It is near the beach (5 minutes walk), near the mini-markets and it is not really touristic. You feel like you are a local, you feel good. Everyone is friendly.
The house is small, but you have everything that you need, plus you have everynight a beautiful sunset.
Prieta beach (5 minutes) is totally beautiful and Penca beach (5 minutes) is perfect to watch the sunset during swiming in the pacifical waves.
The kitchen is well equipped and the bedroom is charming with the A/C.
Josepha, the caretaker who lives close to the casa, is really kind, helpful and she will help you to learn more spanish words!
We could stay many more weeks here. I recommend it for a couple or for a small family.
we will come back.
Please note that the map is incorrectly showing the home location as Flamingo beach , this is our area , not our location . We are on the other side of the bay north of Flamingo 3 km on a hill overlooking Playa Prieta.
The home is right on the "a" at the end of Playa Penca.
