Stonington House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Experience the tranquil serenity of a quaint authentic Maine fishing village known for it's fresh seafood and New England charm complete with amazing ocean views. Stonington, Maine is home to working lobstermen, fishermen, restaurants, fine art galleries, antique shops and coastal charm. Known for it's granite heritage, Stonington is an island connected to the mainland by a bridge so you can easily take day trips to Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Camden and beyond. Stonington is home to artists, photographers, kayakers, hikers, birders, nature enthusiasts, antique hunters and lovers of fine fresh seafood and cuisine.

Our two bedroom home built in the 1850's has been lovingly restored to it's original character. The master bedroom features a queen size bed with custom Maine made headboard, dual nightstands, three way lamps and television remote. We have Laura Ashley bedding and new sheets with comfy blanket and a fan for those hot summer nights. An antique oak dresser with mirror graces the room. A well appointed closet provides ample storage. There is a phone with free long distance in the kitchen and each of the bedrooms. An answering machine in the master records news from family and friends.

The second bedroom has two single Maine made beds with a blue ocean theme, new mattresses and mattress covers and is completed with LL Bean bedding and new cotton sheets. There is a full bath on the second floor with a tub/shower combination.

The first level has a kitchen equipped with stainless stove, stainless refrigerator, stainless microwave and stainless coffee maker. There is service for eight with new silverware, stemware, glasses, pots, pans and of course lobster crackers. A high capacity HE 3T stackable washer and dryer is located in the kitchen.

Enjoy the dining room or eat outside in the fresh Maine air on our new Maine-made picnic table for eight. The living room has a queen size sofa bed, computer station, flat screen television as well as board games and books by Maine authors Linda Greenlaw and Sara Orne-Jewitt. Maine magazines will fill you in on the local flavor of the area along with Maine happenings. Commercial high speed Internet (wireless or Ethernet) will keep you connected to friends and associates.

Improvements include new storm doors with plenty of ventilation for those warm summer breezes, a new ornamental glass front door welcomes the morning light and there is plenty of parking for friends and guests to park and walk to the Famers Market, ball field and harbor activities. The post office, bank, grocery store and lsle au Haut ferry are a short walk from our location.

Island Heritage Trust has many hiking trails including Barred Island, Scotts Landing and more on the island. The Lily Pond is enjoyed by many and is an healthy walk from our home. Sand Beach is a short drive for sun and fun where you'll encounter artists painting and sketching. World renown Haystack Mountain School of Crafts is located on the island. Julia Child as well as many writers, artists, musicians and a famous singer-songwriter have called the island their home.

From our home that has ocean 'glimpses' you can walk down the hill to the nearby waterfront with quaint shops, galleries, ice cream, movies, and numerous boating activities for all ages to enjoy year round.

Why Steeplechase Properties chose Maine

Stonington reminds me of my childhood growing up on the coast of Maine in Spruce Head near Rockland. We spent three years searching for a home that was close to all of the amenities the island has to offer. Our desire is to share it with others who visit the island.

What makes this house unique

The home is a great location close to the ocean, Main Street in Stonington and is a perfect spot to launch many island activities. The home is great for couples and families with an active lifestyle or for those who wish to slow down and get away from it all.

Great accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Very nice furnishings, linens and towels. Clean. Comfortable beds. Good-sized bedrooms. Nice size kitchen and cozy breakfast nook. Comfortable couch in living room. House was cozy, with the storm windows closed house was tight and warm. The shower would be extremely uncomfortable for someone over 5' 8"! I am 5' tall and had to kneel in the shower. Also, with just the one bathroom, I would not recommend this house for more than four guests at one time. The stairs are very steep and I would not recommend this for very young children. Some of the literature about area shops etc. was out-of-date which could be inconvenient only because you don't want to drive to a neighboring town and find out the place you were looking for is no longer there. The Adirondack chairs in the "back yard" were perfectly positioned and received sunlight all day! The area was quiet as far as neighbors, however it does sit at an intersection and you do hear cars going by all day. Walking distance to town, just up the street from the Opera House. There was no information about recycling and I wasn't sure what to do with our recyclables, or what was recyclable. Would stay there again.

Stonington Comfort

  • 4 of 5

3 of us (All adults) stayed at this property for 4 nights and we were very pleased with the ammenities, location and price of the deal. The house is walking distance to the Stonington shops, library and ocean harbor. Is really charming. The bedroom setup is very comfortable. Plenty of sheets and towels available for use. The shower is a bit uncomfortable as the ceiling is low in the bathtub section but plenty of warm/hot water though!

A real jewel! Would stay again in a heartbeat!
