We live in Florida and love the change of scenery that the North Carolina Mountains provide. It is the perfect escape from the hot summers in Florida.
Our family enjoys boating, tubing, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming and movies within the Bear Lake Reserve development and have gone rafting, visiting the Indian reservation, hiking, fishing and picnics by the local rivers in the surrounding area. There are beautiful waterfalls within 30 minutes to 1 hour drive and quaint towns with shopping and restaurants nearby as well.
We rented this home for our family vacation and were so disappointed with how poorly it was maintained. The pictures were clearly taken several years ago and although this was probably a beautiful home at one time, it has been neglected over the years. The outside was overtaken with weeds and the path to the dock was covered in poison ivy. The hot tub off the master bedroom was disgusting and absolutely unusable. The laundry room was full of boxes and trash from prior guests and every closet and drawer was full of personal items (muddy boots, men's underwear, torn magazines from three years ago, half used toiletries...) The automatic blinds in the master bedroom were broken so it was always dark and you couldn't enjoy the beautiful views of the lake. The outdoor awning off the main floor deck was also broken and hung down in shreds over the balcony. There was clearly water damage at some point based on the ceiling stains on the lower level and there was a moldy smell throughout that floor. The property is managed by Sundog Realty and we called to report these issues but were told that "they would look into it but they weren't responsible for maintaining the outside of the property." They also told us that they don't advertise the hot tub so they don't maintain it. I've rented homes several times and have never had such a bad experience.
Two families rented this remarkable home for the New Years holiday and when we arrived, every expectation was exceeded! I can't begin to describe the wonderful amentities that this sprawling "mansion in the woods" provides. I love the fact that it offered two master suites and had plenty of room for the kids to play! The views are spectauclar and the seclusion makes you do nothing but rest and enjoy the surroundings, which is what we needed! This home is the last one in the entire development, so it takes about 20 minutes just to get to the entrance of Bear Lake Reserve. We stopped at WalMart on our way in, which was a good thing, because a grocery is good 45 minutes away. But once you have your food, you don't need to go anywhere else. This place has it all - even a private boat dock. The ramp was closed when we were there, so we took our boat to a nearby lake. Also, there is no cell phone service, but the home offered a land line which we had to use a few times, but they do have wireless internet which was great. Simply wonderful, thank you to the family for renting out there phenomenal home!
We rented this house for the 4th of july and it was wonderful. it comfortably handled our family of two small kids, 4 grandparents and two other adults. The home is beautful with lots of thoughtful design ideas and furnished very nicely. The lake view and outdoor decks are great.
