Our week at Amey's cottage was wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is clean and very comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. All the amenities you could possibly need are there. Ample room to store bicycles and two kayaks right on property.

We ate dinner every night on the large front deck and watched the sun go down every night from the end of the dock. Swim area out front is sandy and easy access for our kayaks to go in and out of the water. Area is quiet and peaceful at night. Cottage is close enough to Charlevoix or Petoskey if you are looking for an evening out, but, truthfully ,why would you want to. Cottage has a well kept barbecue for grilling. Wifi works well. I assume the tv and stereo do too, but we never had the time for either. Thanks, Rhett.

Great loation!

  • 5 of 5

We have loved the Charlevoix area and have been coming here for many years. We came upon this lake front home and it is one of our favorites places now. The lake, the water, the amenities of the rental home were all more that we ever expected. Management was helpful and accommodating. Home was very neat and clean!

Wonderful little house

  • 5 of 5

The house Looks tiny from the outside but we shocked by how big it felt on the inside!!! The house was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook meals with ease, and plenty of blankets and pillows. The contact person was VERY quick to respond and even let us know on checkout day that no one was renting the house immediately after us so we could stay as long as we liked (no checkout time that day). It was fantastic, we absolutely plan to stay again!!

Perfect cottage on the south arm

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay at this cottage. The cottage was very clean and WELL WELL stocked with everything we needed. There was never a time we didn't have something we needed. Everything from beach towels, to kitchen supplies, and everything in between. This seemed to be the quieter side of the lake, which was great! The water was great for swimming, and the beach chairs at the end of the dock were great for sitting in the sun and watching the boats and the world go by. We were surprised to have cable and internet, which were convenient to have for the one rainy day we had. The property manager lived near by, and stopped by the first day we were there to check in and see if we needed anything. The cottage is very centrally located to Charlevoix, Petoskey, Boyne City, Waloon Lake, East Jordan. We did several day trips to these cities and had a blast. Thank you for a great week away!

RE: Lake Charlevoix is Gorgeous!

  • 3 of 5

The house was very nice just as many of the other reviews indicated. The kitchen was well appointed w/paper products included. The bedrooms are tight but it is not as though you are in them very much. The deck is shaded which is nice when you are spending all your time in the sun at the beach level. The beach was really great, the kids and our lab could walk out quite a distance without hitting deep water and it was sandy w/minimal muck and/or rocks. We rented kayaks and a paddle board and they were perfect for mornings on the lake. We also rented a jet ski from a local marina and that was fun.

A few complaints...there is no air-conditioning in the house and we had the misfortune of being there during the hottest week of the year- temps inside reached 100 and it was literally unbearable. We ended up going home a few days early, so bring your box fans from home for sure. Second concern is the long, narrow drive that leads to the cottage...it is a bit over grown and left scratches down the side and on the roof of our truck. This really needs to be trimmed back. Lastly, there is an expectation that you will clean the unit before you leave (not just pick up, but really clean and wash etc). I have rented through VRBO several times for other properties and the cleaning fee has always been included, this was an additional fee. The washing machine is a stackable unit making washing bedding a major task. It also made me question how clean the place really was when we arrived as it was likely to have been done by the previous renter, to me this is not a plan and there should be a professional cleaning service as part of the deal, especially at the rate we paid for the week.

Overall, it was a decent place to stay- you just need to understand the limitations and decide of the draw of Lake Charlevoix makes it worth it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to comment regarding your recent cottage visit. We appreciate your choice to stay with us. We are glad you enjoyed the many aspects of your visit as the vast majority of our guests have for the past 4 seasons. Our location here on beautiful Lake Charlevoix with a 125' of private sand beach is our main feature and I'm glad you enjoyed that so immensely. As to the concerns noted regarding your stay we are sincerely sorry you had a less than a perfect stay. We strive for everyone to have a wonderful memory to carry home with them. The high temperatures you experienced during your stay are very uncommon here in the northland. Usually we jump for joy if we get too hot, so we can jump in the lake. You make a good point that we could use additional cooling for those rare hot days, so I have added two large fans to the cottage inventory. You made a very good point about the cleaning charge. We did not charge you for cleaning and we never have in the past to any of our guests. I have changed the agreement form to spell this out more clearly and to make it clear that we do have the cottage professionally cleaned after every visit. I apologize for the incorrect and poor wording in the agreement to that effect. The 1/4 mile drive down to the cottage is through a beautiful forest and our guests love the canopy of trees that shade it. We have elected to not clear cut a swath thru it to disturb that feeling. We do trim back the road each spring and now I realize that an additional trimming is required. Again we thank you for your choice with us and I look forward to seeing you in the future should you choose a visit up North. All the Best to you both,
