'A Riverfront Home!' 'Last Bend Lodge on the Nottely River'

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Last Bend Lodge, on the Scenic Banks of the Beautiful Nottely River, is so named because The Nottely performs a hairpin bend right in front of The Lodge, The Last Bend in the River before it disappears into the Vast Natahala National Forest!

Several miles downstream The River flows into huge, pristine Lake Hiawassee which has over 150 miles of shoreline, 90% of which is unspoiled National Forest Land... Open to ALL! The Lodge is situated at 1500 feet elevation and within the area are peaks in excess of 5000 feet. The River sweeps up from the Southwest, executes its turn in front of The Lodge and bubbles off to the Southeast. The view from the massive, elevated deck is just spectacular.

Last Bend Lodge was constructed in 2003 and is bordered by The River in front and The National Forest and our other home, River's Edge Cabin, on the other sides. Rushing Branch Creek tumbles down the mountain and into The River between the two Homes. The Master Suite features French Doors which open to a private, screened section of the deck overlooking The Creek. Yes, this is a private, secluded and very unique site and yet it is easily accessible, with no steep or precipitous driving, and not at all remote.

Convenient Access and Excellent Privacy... The Best of Both Worlds! We are located in Cherokee County, North Carolina (The Westernmost County in the State) about seven miles west of the Bustling Mountain Town of Murphy, North Carolina which is also the County Seat. Murphy has a Junior College, a substantial Medical Center and a Regional-size Wal-Mart as well as many other dining and shopping options.

The World Renowned John C. Campbell School of Folk Arts is a must see. They welcome you to walk right into the classes which range from Blacksmithing to Blue Grass Music.

Come to Last Bend Lodge. Always peaceful and quiet of urban noise. Cool in the Spring and Summer, when the birds are singing and the fish are jumping and snug in the Fall and Winter, when the hills and valleys are ablaze with color and the peaks are capped snow white. Hike, bike, fish, antique, sightsee, and all of the other many activities... Or just sit on the porch and listen to The River Flow By.

*Pets are welcome for a $50 per pet fee. There is also a $50 per pet extra (refundable with no damage) security deposit. We offer a professionally constructed, covered & lockable kennel.

*Last Bend Lodge is 'Smoke Free'. You may smoke on the porch but absolutely not inside.

We live in Austin, TX so Marie Speigel, our property manager, lives across the weather and will be available to answer any questions you may have while enjoying Last Bend Lodge.

Perfect for a group get-away!

  • 5 of 5

To our surprise, the property, which is enchantingly perched along the river bank at the end of the lane, was landscaped with a beautiful garden complete with gazebo, brook, fire pit, evergreen hedges, and nice small front lawn. The house was clean, well-built, and well-equipped with comfortable beds and a large round dining table. It had everything needed for a group of artists who wanted to spend some time in the quiet respite of the mountains meditating and creating! had one of the largest porches I've seen on a mountain home, and I've stayed at more than 15 of them over the years. The porch has a beautiful view of the river, and we enjoyed watching the sun rise over the ridge and go down illuminating the trees with brilliant fall color each day. The owners were friendly, accommodating, and responsive through the VRBO app. I would highly recommend this house for a family or small-group get-away!

Great cabin. Wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

What a great time. The cabin was great and the location was absolutely wonderful. It is convenient to all the major spots in that area. My kids however couldn't wait to get back to the cabin. We will definitely return one day soon.

Fabulous family get-away !

  • 5 of 5

We had an extended family of eight which included 3 teens and an 8 yr. old. The purpose of our Murphy trip was a mini-family reunion with our local family there. What a beautiful river-front location and cabin ! There was nothing missing in this spotless home-very modern and spacious ! The mood of the river changes thru-out the day and evening. Canadian geese swim in large lazy groups and seem to pose for your camera! The children spent many hours floating, tubing and "panning for gold" in the bubbling creek and river as we adults leisurely enjoyed the views from the huge porch. A full "blue" moon added to the magical evenings ! Short trips to historic downtown Murphy, Mason's Ruby Mine in Franklin, Mercer's Apple Orchard and beautiful Helen, GA made this week memorable for all ! A definite 5 Star rating !!

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the cabin July 16-23. We had a wonderful time fishing, tubing, and relaxing. We spent many hours on the spacious front porch reading, having dinner and just enjoying nature. The cabin is close to town and many recreational places. The cabin is beautiful on the inside (better than the pictures). I was surprised at how well stocked the cabin was. The kitchen was nicely stocked with spices and other items one doesn't think about when grocery shopping while on vacation. There were games and puzzles for our grandaughter and daughter. I would highly recommend this cabin for your mountain vacation. You will have a wonderful time. We hope to visit again!!!! Thanks Michelle for sharing your home with us!!!!!

Relaxing in the shadow of the Smoky Mountains

  • 5 of 5

In the summer of 2008 my wife, two daughters, and I spent an incredible week in this cabin. The cabin was immaculate, with charming decor and furnishings. Nestled in the lush wooded hills of eastern North Carolina on the banks of a pristine river, we were never at a loss for resplendent scenic views. During the days we took short road trips to the Biltmore in Asheville, Smoky Mtn National Park, and even caught a Braves game in Atlanta. We spent the cool evenings playing cards and board games on the spacious front porch while looking out as the moon's reflection sparkled and danced on the river. Even the little town of Murphy is full of delightful surprises, from the river side walking trails to the Cherokee history museum. This was by far one vaction our family will never forget

Everything Was Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were there for spring break. We could not have imagined a better place for our stay. The description given by the owners is exactly what we found. The cabin is very large with 3 generous bedrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything that we needed to have our meals there(minus the food!). The bathrooms were clean and comfortable. This was truly a home away from home. the beds are VERY good, as were the linens. The porch is huge and was the ideal place for my morning cup of coffee, as well as a meditative spot to watch the river flow by in the afternoon. The property managers were so sweet, and answered all our questions, as well as giving us suggestions for day trips. We were all sad to leave this mountain paradise.
