Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10. Screened Porch

The Taylor Camp is available to families who want a quiet and relaxing vacation on one of the most beautiful and private lakes in all New England. Five miles long, Tunk Lake has only 12 cabins on the southern 2/3 of the lake. The Taylor Camp is perfect for your family vacation. It just doesn't get any better than this!

Most of the summer of 2017 was booked by Dec 2016. If you are interested in 2018, I suggest you book this fall.

When you book, you will be given access to the TaylorCamp website for more photos, maps and other information.

Local Shopping & Medical Facilities: Ellsworth is about 30 minutes from the Taylor Camp. It includes 2 grocery store chains (Hanaford & Shaws), WalMart, Fast Food (McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Friendly's, Taco Bell, etc), Home Depot, Hospital, Walk-in Medical Clinic, and much more.

Location: Tunk Lake: There is swimming, hiking, Mt. climbing, boating, fishing on Tunk Lake, and since the lake has so few cabins, boat traffic is very light. No Jet Skis are allowed (by law).

Bar Harbor is a beautiful old New England town and a must-see. ACADIA NATIONAL PARK is the northeast’s only National Park. Don't miss Schoodic Point which is part of Acadia National Park and is just up the coast in the Winter Harbor area.

Restaurants: There are many restaurants between Tunk Lake and Ellsworth, in the Winter Harbor area, and in Bar Harbor. There is something for everyone from all the major fast food chains (in Ellsworth) to very fine dining.

About Jim Taylor

My father built the Taylor Camp for the Taylor family so it is not your typical rental property. It is only available for rental a few weeks a year. Buying land on Tunk Lake is virtually impossible at any price as it is heavily protected by conservation easements.

Jim Taylor purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Jim Taylor chose Downeast and Acadia

It is just beautiful and well maintained which is why we have gotten great reviews. Although it is off the beaten path, it has all the conveniences of home.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We are now in our 16th year renting the Taylor Camp. We have been very fortunate to have attracted wonderful families who have taken good care of our cabin. If you are interested in the summer of 2017, I suggest you contact us this fall as we typically have a few families who come back.

Taylor camp was even better than I had expected. It was beautiful, very spacious, very well equipped and spotless when we arrived. My immediate and extended family & friends had a great time!

If we decide to repeat this sort of vacation in Maine, we’ll be sure to stay at Taylor camp!

Beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

The house and property are very well maintained, inside and out. There are local folks (April and Rob) available if you need them and Jim checked in to see that we arrived safely. The road in is gated and locked limiting access to the camps along this shore ensuring privacy. This "camp" is well equipped for you to enjoy all of your meals right on the lake. We loved the screened in porch as we were able to enjoy sitting outside without the hassle of insects. Plenty of water craft is provided to enjoy beautiful Tunk Lake with easy access via the dock. Swimming was delightful. There is plenty to do without being a tourist and plenty to do if you are touring. You can explore the mountains directly across from Jim's place and those in the surrounding area. Little Tunk Lake is also worth a look. Lastly, the silence is wonderfully deafening!

Great lake house with a wonderful dock!

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as advertised and in very private, location. Great kitchen for cooking, dining room and the large screened in porch offers ample outdoor time if you aren't down on the dock. It is a well maintained property and the kayaks onsite were a nice amenity. Lots of walking just outside the door down a long, dirt road and Tunk Lake is an especially clean, beautiful lake to boat or swim in.

Beautiful, serence, picturesque setting

  • 5 of 5

The cabin accommodated our two families plus additional some additional family friends who dropped in during our stay.

The screened porch was a hi-light, giving us such a nice place to sit and relax. Having wifi in such a remote setting was incredible (it was slow, but worked well, I was able to check my email, post pix to facebook - especially if I did this when the teens were still asleep).

The dock and kayaks/canoe were awesome. Everyone got to get out onto the lake.

The lake was pristine, clean, clear water. The drinking water, straight from the faucet was very good.

I'd stay here again for sure.

Lovely and Secluded

  • 5 of 5

To date, the best vacation we have ever had! Super private location but not far from town or Bar Harbor (Acadia). The house was amazing, with every amenity you could think of waiting for you when you arrived. The washer and dryer were a big plus! Loved the screened-in porch also, perfect for relaxing outside. We used the provided kayaks every single day, exploring the lake and just relaxing on the water. The scenic views, especially during sunrise and sunset, were spectacular; just unbelievably beautiful. This was our first time to Maine, and we definitely recommend staying at Taylor Camp for that authentic experience. I am certain we will be going back!
